Hello ... we have a U.S account at BMO but the rate really sucks. I called TD and its much better. I was wondering what or where do most of you exchange currency. I usually carry tavellers checks ... is there another possibility? I would appreciate any help.

Thanks :)

I just went down and bought $100 at TD- it came to $119.80 :cool1: :cool1:

I think I will head to TD soon ... thanks ... hope there are more suggestions out there? :moped:

Can you buy American $$$'s at TD if you don't have an account there? They seem to always have the best rate. I have a bid in at xetrade for 1.16 whether it gets filled or not is another question. The dollar would have to rise another cent or so before they would consider filling it I assume. Either way if it fills and I get money in the mean time not going to be a bad investment anyways. I don't see the dollar going too much higher before the gov sabotages it somehow.

Yeah sabotage on its way already :confused3 Grrrr! I dont have an account there but I do want to open one up ... I will let you know how it goes ... made a 1:15pm appointment.

I have actually walked into many banks with no account to buy US, but I have all my RRSP's through this bank(friend of the family)so I do have an account there.

Hi Everyone ... just a follow up. I went to TD just around lunch hour and decided to open an account. I opened a Borderless Plan .. it has great benefits: like a preferred exchange rate; free unlimited travellers cheques; no-fee $U.S. transactions; plus I got approved a U.S. Dollar Advantage Visa Card :Pinkbounc All in all, I am pretty happy, exchanged our money at a rate of 1.18 :Pinkbounc I hope that this works out and there are no hidden costs with the account ... I asked several times and they assured me what I see is what I get ... :cheer2: Only 74 days till we leave to Disney ... can't wait! :bounce:

My dh works with a guy who always exchanges his money at our local casino(Windsor), and swears he just walks in, goes to currency exchange, exchanges the amt he wants(usually 1-3% cheaper than the going rate at the banks) and walks out. No gambling req'd. He does this everytime he travels. I think we'll check it out. Anybody else done this?

I wonder if that has to do with Windsor being a boarder town or if it is true of all casinos. I litterally drive past Mohawk Racetrack and slots everyday to take the kids to school. It would be great if I could exchange for cash there! I will check it out and post back.

Is there an annual fee for the Visa Card you mention ???
thanks.

Check for fees and what balance you must keep. I need to keep 1000.00 in to pay no fees.

At Niagara casino Ive exchanged US back to Canadian but not vise versa. I just usually go to the Citi ATM when Im in the states.. but DH does for for Citi Canada so we do get a prefered rate.. :love2:
I do have to say with the echange rate this good, DH and I are going to the states a lot more often that we did before.

I go to our Ontario Travel Bureau where they have a currency exchange. It is always a better rate than the banks I've tried (I am a TD and Royal Bank customer). So if you have one in or near where you live, I'd try there first.

Hi ... there is no annual fee for the visa card but I think if you want to "collect points" you might want to upgrade. The borderless plan is great ... remember you have to keep a minimum of $3000 for all those added benefits. I have my money and cant wait for November 23rd :Pinkbounc
