My wedding ring is now officially gone. Long story, don't ask ;), but I need a replacement. From various sources, I think I can scrape up about $1000 cash that isn't budgeted or spoken for. (Selling a gold bracelet that's been a drawer for 12 years and the price of a new watch that was supposed to be my main Xmas present from DH, actually - we both agree we'd rather use the watch money for a new wedding ring than a watch.)

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go online to buy a wedding ring? I don't want or need fancy, just something nice.

Thanks!

Just to clarify, are you looking for an engagement ring or a wedding band?

Ideally, I want a solitaire for the ring; I'll pick up a plain band to match it at Wal-mart or similar, unless I can find one cheaper.

My husband found my engagement ring at a pawn shop and I love it! When it came time to pick out our wedding bands, we went to a pawn shop again and we each got one there. My husband spent $1700 on my engagement ring and when we had it appraised, it was estimated at over 5k. It's absolutely worth taking a look in your area. Buying online might mot get you exactly what you want since you can't try it on. You can get something fantastic at a pawn shop for $1000.

Sorry for your lost ring and I hope you get something lovely! Good luck!

I got my DW (then DF :)) from James Allen which is an online retailer. If you google it, you will see the address. While it was more than $1000, I seem to remember them having some within your price range. I know several other people who have dealt with them and have been pleased. While it is true you might not get to try it on, I was able to find something similar in a local brick & morter store that was similar. She loved it.

Ok OP, you said don't ask, so I won't...but let me suggest this.
If the ring was stolen, and you own/pay for your own home, your homeowner's insurance would cover it.

Try Sam's Club or Costco. There isn't as much mark-up and the quality is just as good.

It really depends on what style you want - I mean everything form Overstock.com to BlueNile.com .... all the major name brand jewelry stores have a website.

I'm wearing an Irish ring from here on my right hand right now and its really pretty. I never actually took it anywhere though to verify the gold value. I just liked the picture.

I can't prove it was stolen. It "dissappeared". No use crying over spilled milk, and I suppose it isn't a need, but it's just. . .I don't feel right without it.

Thanks for the James Allen link! I'm also looking at Amazon.com - found a couple of really nice rings for cheap there. I didn't think about overstock or blue nile, will try them and I hadn't thought about Sam's Club. We'll definitely go there and look there too.

(My old ring was bought 22 years ago when we were both young and poor in college; it was itsy. DH has been making noise about replacing it for YEARS, so this is his opportunity, LOL!)

Homeowners/renter's insurance will cover up to a certain limit unless it's "scheduled" on the insurance with an appraisal etc. (our renter's insurance, as long as the item is actually on it with it's own little premium, will even covered if it's lost, or even if the stone is lost)

OP, myjewelrybox has some decent stuff, ice.com, bluenile....amazon is selling jewelry as well!

I thought it had to be stolen with a police report. . .hmm. I can at least call Farmer's and see. If I got $$ that would add to the total. Thanks!

I'm sorry, that happened to me too several years ago. I took them off in a sleep deprived state after DS was born. DD2 took them & I never saw my engagement or Irish ring again. I tore up the house & figure it either a) got flushed b) got taken out in the trash even after I told DH not to set it out til I looked through it. I really miss the Irish ring because we have never been able to find one exactly like it and DH gave it to me our first Christmas while dating.

If it's scheduled, (guessing maybe it's not?) they will replace it if that is the case & it just disappeared. Just wanted to mention on the off chance you can get it replaced.

Enjoy your new ring though!

Thanks! I can at least call and find out. But yeah, it just sort of up and walked out. I'm going to tell myself it dissappeared into the trash and not into someone's pocket, and it if went into someone's pocket, I pray that it goes to do someone some good and not to do something bad. :)

If you are looking for just a wedding ring rather than a diamond/wedding ring set, then I think you can get something nice for well under $1000 at one of your local jewelery stores.

I just took at look at Kay Jewelers web site, and they have quite a few that I like a lot in the $500-$700 range.

BJ's! http://www.bjs.com/jewelry/rings.category.101.100.200011616.1

I found rings that I LOVED and insisted that DH buy them from BJ's. I told him that if he didn't propose with that particular ring I would say no. ;) My engagement ring and wedding band are a set that cost about $800 (that was 5 years ago). I get compliments on them all the time and everyone is shocked when I tell them where my rings are from!

Other than pawn and costco (which are good ideas), you can also look at antique stores. The diamonds are not always top quality, but the pieces are often very pretty. Is there a local, independent jeweler near you? I have found that the (few) non-chain jewelers are really the best for value.

I'll check out BJ's. I used to love them when we lived in MA. (None anywhere near LA, unfortunately.)

I'll also look into the locally owned jewelry stores, but am definitely going to the pawn shops. I might also look up the local estate auctions and see what turns up.

Thanks everyone!
