where should we stay on the way to the keys?

wanting to go down to the keys for a few days while we are in Orlando. Think its to far to drive all the way down in one day, can anyone recommend where to stay on the way down.

I would say Key Biscayne as it is right next to Miami and the closest to the actual Keys. Otherwise Key Largo is right at the top so would be a 5 to 6 hour drive from Orlando.

We drove down to Key West but did it comfortably in a day. We did have 2 drivers to share though. Don't think I would want to drive all the way on my own. Maybe the art deco beach area near Miami would be a fun place to stop - very different from the keys!

We once drove up from Miami to orlando and found it quite difficult to find anywhere to stay around lake OkeyDokey where we'd planned to find a motel.

I would recommend staying around Collins Avenue near Miami Beach, a great location - Coconut Walk, Key Biscayne and Art Deco area all very closeby.
