Where should a vegetarian eat in Animal Kingdom?

I am planning my May trip, and trying to figure out some meals. I am not on the DDP, so am sticking to counter service for this trip. I am a vegetarian - I do drink milk and eat eggs, but no meat. I will be traveling with my mom, who is not a vegetarian but tends to not eat a whole lot of meat when traveling with me. We are not huge eaters - we will probably share most meals and graze on snacks throughout the day.

For all the other parks, I am finding some options I'm getting excited about - grilled veggie sandwich at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot, the Lighthouse sandwich and veggie chili at Columbia Harbor House, etc. However, Animal Kingdom seems like a barren wasteland! Am I doomed to bad pizza while I'm there? Are there good veggie snacks that I am not seeing? HELP!!!

Also - is there any place in the World to get a veggie hot dog?

Sorry for a non-answer, but when I read the title to this thread, my first reaction was "Not in front of the lion". :goodvibes

Tusker House has great selections for vegetarians!! (I am vegan and love it!) Also, the Rainforest Cafe has a veggie burger. The other places have fewer options.

The Yak & the Yeti have veggie options. Check out Allears for menus.

No, they don't. The best they can do is pick chicken off a salad. I would encourage vegetarians to steer clear of Yak and Yeti, both TS and CS.

For TS, there's Tusker House and Rainforest Cafe. For CS, there's a veggie burger at Restaurantosaurus (beware the fries--I think they're McDonald's) and cheese pizza at Pizzafari.

I don't know of any veggie hot dogs anywhere in WDW. :confused3

I got a great fruit plate at the barbeque place. Its not the kind of thing you'd expect to be good but it was huge and refreshing.

The menu for Yak & Yeti TS has:
Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce
House Salad - Romaine and iceburg lettuce, almonds, sesame seeds and sesame dressing
Lo Mein - Lo Mein noodles, carrots, cabbage, green onoins, bean sprouts; Chicken or Shrimp (I would think you could ask for this with no meat)
House Stir Fried Vegetables
Mango Pie - shortbread cookie crust, fresh whipped cream, raspberry sauce
Chocolate Brownie Sundae - chunks of brownie, vanilla ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauces, fresh whipped cream
Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle
Sorbet - Mango, lemon, raspberry

One of the best tools I've found for looking for vegetarian options everywhere at WDW is here on the DIS (I'm not vegetarian, but have helped other people look for where they can eat)

Go to the section at the bottom "Disney Menu Search" and select "Vegetable" for "Select the Main Ingredient". You could also choose "Fruit" or "Grain". Of course, not all options will necessarily be vegetarian, but you will be surprised at how many choices come up! :thumbsup2

The lo mein is made with beef broth. All you can get are steamed veggies and rice, aside from the green beans, house salad and desserts. Frankly, I need protein with my meals, and Tusker House is a much better option for vegetarians.

Another vote here for Tusker House. I didn't have to take advantage of it- but while we were eating the chefs were out with patrons in full force explaining what people could and couldn't eat due to dietaryrestrictions. Def a wide variety of things you could eat.

:sad2:

Nope, going to AK always kind of sucks food-wise for me. I usually end up eating pizza at Pizzafari. I think there is a veggie burger at the McDonalds (I've never tried it because I figure veggie burgers at fast food places are usually pretty yucky). Flame Tree BBQ has some type of fruit plate which maybe is what they think of as their vegetarian entree --sounds more like breakfast or dessert to me though.

I'm excited that the Tusker House buffet exists now.

I'd steer clear of Yak and Yeti as well. I think there was a review on the review board where folks just had to leave the restaurant because they had nothing but rice and veggies that a vegetarian could eat.

Hmmm...I was pretty sure I read a post here from a vegetarian who had the lo mein at Y&Y (the chef had recommended it as a vegetarian option). Maybe it was the Pho noodle bowl instead? I would have thought the Pho was the one with a meat based broth. Or maybe the chef there made something special per their request? :confused3

Tusker House does have some really great sounding vegetarian options:

Tabbouleh, Hummus and Baba Ghanoush
Marrakesh Couscous with roasted vegetables
Vegetable samosas, spiced tandoori tofu
Jollaf Rice
Pearl Couscous with sweet basil essence
lots of salads
Fresh Fruit
Root Vegetables and Cabbage
Orzo Pasta
Green Bean Medley
Yukon Gold Potato Wedges
Fruit Cobbler
Warm Banana-cinnamon bread pudding
Assorted Pastries

Here's a travel article about vegetarian dining at WDW:

And here's a recent thread here that gives some great vegetarian suggestions:

The wok-fried green beans at Yak and Yeti sound GOOD, but I'm a little hesitant about the entrees.

Tusker House sounds good - I wasn't planning on making any ADRs, and now my trip is pretty soon, but I might try calling tomorrow and seeing if they have anything available.
Thanks for the input, y'all!

We ate at Tusker house last month and had a vegetarian in our party. He enjoyed the selections and left very full!

I would agree with this one. My wife always gets the fruit plate at Flame Tree Barbecue while my sons and I enjoy our meat.
