Where shall I go for my wedding dinner?

Hi everyone

I'm getting married in the morning on Sat Oct 22nd (woohoo!)

it'll all be over by mid-day, so I thought it'd make sense for the 5 of us (me, new hub & 3 sons) to go for a nice (but not TOO nice - my family don't do posh!!) lunch to celebrate.

I'd like to eat in one of the WDW resort hotels, mainly just because I know the staff will fuss over us tremendously if they know we've come straight from our wedding ceremony!

Which one would you guys recommend - my only main requirement is that it isn't too formal a setting as my 3 yr old might lower the tone lol - but nothing too rowdy either - and no characters!!

All suggestions gratefully received

Flo

First, congratulations on your marriage!!! What a wonderful time of the year! Reading your criteria I was all set on Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge...three boys...rustic setting....they will go nuts over your nuptials...but then you mentioned not too rowdy....XXXXX.....now can you define rowdy? Whispering Canyon would be fun and noisy and the kids would feel free to be kids...which is nice to do after having to behave like good little gentlemen for the wedding ceremony. And it is quite beautiful...my other option would be 'Ohana's....they can be kids there and enjoy a stroll through the Polynesian....but if I had three boys and wanted to really enjoy myself I would choose Whispering Canyon.

How about the Kona Cafe at the Poly? The food is really good and it is nice without being formal. You could even take a ride on the monorail afterwards.

I was going to suggest Kona Cafe too. Very good food and excellent desserts! My 2 year old loves it there.

thanks guys - I also asked this question on a British forum and they recommended the Grand Floridian Cafe - so I will look into all 3 (Whispering Canyon, Kona, GFC).

(personally I think the Whispering Canyon looks great BUT my hubby-to-be is the sort who would get really embarassed/upset if he was 'picked on' by the restaurant staff, so I don't know if I want to risk it....me & the boys'd love it though!)

I have to say go to O'hana's and ask for a nice window view overlooking the lagoon. Kona cafe just doesn't do your day justice and O'hana's seems to be perfect for what you want. Nice place to eat but not stuffy or overly fancy. You can relax and enjoy your day, plus I'm sure they will do something nice for you if you tell them about just getting married. Good luck!

I was married there last May, and afterwards for the "reception", we all went to Fulton's in DD. Everyone had crablegs and wine, and it was so nice, people are still talking about it. I would request a table on the main level forsure though. I was nice, but not too nice, and just wonderful!

For a nice lunch I'd go to the Grand Floridian Cafe. It's very nice atmosphere but not too stuffy where you would feel uncomfortable with your kids. BTW Congratulations.

Like the others have mentioned, Ohana would be nice, however, they dont offer lunch.

Before reading the other posts, my first thought was Kona Cafe too. A tropical romantic setting, delicious food, great service and all the Disney Magic. Maybe you could get a drink at the Tambu lounge afterward and take it out for a stroll on the beach. Theres a nice path along the water that goes down to the GF.

Congratulations!!!

Another vote for Kona. Most of the more formal restaurants do not serve lunch. They have the best coffee on property and they have a "show kitchen" for their desserts.

The Kona has great food, but it's a casual environment.

I think the GF Cafe is the way to go. It's casually elegant but not "posh", and usually a little less crowded than the Kona.

I wouldn't suggest Whispering Canyon. That's lively at least and rowdy is probably a better word to describe it.

I'm not sure where you're getting married and the day of the week, those answers might help.

Best wishes!

MY THOUGHTS, exactly! Ohana doesn't serve lunch and the Kona Cafe, which I LOVE, is, in my opinion, too informal for a meal directly after your wedding ceremony. Same thing for Whispering Canyon.

My first suggestion is the Grand Floridian Cafe. Beautiful setting, prices not too bad, not too fancy but fancy enough! Before or afterwards you could take pictures in the lobby of the GF.

Whichever you decide on, enjoy and CONGRATS! :bride: :groom:

P.S. Here's a link to the menu and prices for the GF Cafe: http://allearsnet.com/menu/men_gfcl.htm

It's looking like GFC then!!!

(Anne - we're getting married on a boat on a lake in Kissimmee - on a Saturday morning @ 10am)

Not to throw a twist into the trend here, but we really loved Le Cellier in Epcot. We both agreed it was one of the best, if not the best, meal we had during our stay. Good Luck with everything, and let me know if you want any more info on Le Cellier.

I second Fulton's. They have a great lunch menu. I love that palce> :bride:

sorry to reactivate an old thread, but it's ages since I have been on here and I was amazed to see this thread still live :)

I ended up chickening out of the wedding!

we still went on the holiday - and had loads of fun - but there were no wedding bells :)
