Where on monorail to watch fireworks (with dessert or drink???)

My nephew planned a romantic dinner for two at the Grand Floridian, after he proposes to his gf. Now he's looking for a place to go have a drink or dessert and watch the fireworks. They could stay at the GF but he thought it would be fun to go someplace else! This was a last minute addition to his plans, so most places are booked for ressies. Would you recommend staying at GF and watching from the shore, riding the monorail to Contemporary and trying to get a table for dessert around 9pm or going to the Polynesian (sitting on the beach, getting a drink from the hut) and watching the water parade and fireworks. It's a Saturday night during our trip in December. Any suggestions would be much appreciated he wants to make it a special evening, but it's late in the game.

What about the lounge at CA Grill?
First come first serve basis, so it might be at max by 9pm when they can arrive after dinner. But it might be worth the chance. Then if they can't get in, then they could go to Polynesian beach? I really like that idea, it sounds perfect, just wish they took ressies.

I would vote walking over to the Poly and watching from the beach - it's arguably the best setting of any of the 7 Seas Lagoon viewing options. When I was there in October, the audio was nice and LOUD for a change, which hasn't always been the case over the last few years.

Poly also has the better options for beverages. I'd recommend Tambu Lounge or the Trader Sam's outdoor patio, you can get to-go drinks from both of them. The Barefoot Pool bar is right by the beach and there is a portion open/outside of the gates so available to non-resort guests, but I still prefer the other two bars first. Especially for signature drinks like the Lapu Lapu, Backstratcher, etc.

For me, two Lapu Lapus on the beach to relax and celebrate would do it for me! And who doesn't like drinking out of a pineapple?

An alternative would be to sit at the Trader Sam's patio and watch the fireworks from there. I personally prefer being on the beach, but the patio is nice if you want to stay seated / want a table / etc.

Hope that helps!

This is SO helpful! If they ride the monorail over they can get to the bar/beach without being a Poly resort guest? They are staying with family at AKL. What are the chances of finding a seat on the beach or the patio if they arrive at 9pm?

I love the Poly suggestion and totally agree! They can take the monorail to Poly, but they can also walk there from GF if they'd like to take a romantic stroll. If the main beach and/or patio is crowded, they can also see the fireworks along the marina (they'll hear the music from the outdoor patio) or from Luau Cove beach (which is between GF and Poly). There are usually very few people on luau cove beach.

Sorry, I missed your reply earlier. Agree with PP, I’d walk from GF to Poly - it’s a lovely stroll. Yes, they are fine watching from the beach as a non-resort guest. The Poly beach won’t be so crowded they can’t find a spot, generally speaking. There are very limited beach chairs, but plenty of space on the sand.

Pic does a disservice to how good the view really is, but here was my view from the sand back in October
