Could ya just once make it to my house?

I did get a very nice gift from DD and a card from "everyone" but it would be nice every now and then to be reminded that I'm more than a housekeeper/personal shopper/chef, ect. :rolleyes1

Oh, wait - I did get griped at by DH because I bought him a card and he did not get me one..so apparently I made him feel bad. :confused3

Sorry - just needed to do a V-Day gripe...back to your regularly scheduled programming.

He was mad at YOU because he failed to get you a card? Did you tell him he was confused?

My roses were in the hall when I got up this morning and we're going out for sushi at lunch. I also got some Godivas last night. We had decided we'd get each other a nightstand lamp because we need them. Shopping for those this afternoon!!

Why don't you make him a nice sandwich and grab him a cold beer? That will make him feel better.

Shrubber, I'm going to virtually beat you! Dawn, I feel your pain! After 25 years of marriage and a couple of kids, romance does tend to take a back seat. Valentines Day is not really a big deal in my house because we are all winter babies so between Christmas and V-day we've got 5 birthdays squeezed in. We're usually "gifted-out" and flat broke.

My dh had to take his father to dialysis this morning but he's going to pick up a cheesecake from the cheesecake factor for dessert.

There are days I do feel like R2-D2 with breast. :goodvibes

Well my DH had to go to Seattle for a meeting and happened to stay at a hotel by the mall. I jokingly sent him my sizes and told him there was a Victoria's Secret there if he wanted to go shopping. He came home with a bag full of stuff. :goodvibes I was shocked! He's fishing this morning so now I have to run out and get him something before he gets back...

FYI - that stuff was not for you... ;) :lmao:

It was a "in the heat of the moment" gripe. And he wasn't really mad about the card, jut asking me why I got him one because he did not get me one.

He is a good man but every now and then him doing something romantic would be nice. And I know romance can't be found in a store but you can come dang close to it sometimes. ;)

I hope everyone does have a great Valentine's Day and don't begrudge anyone of the romantic gestures they received.

But roses now and then would be nice. ::yes::

So sorry yopu aren't having a good Valentine's Day. If it makes you feel any better, it's a "Hallmark Holiday". What really counts is the way your made to feel ALL 365 days.

Much of this "holiday miscommunication" comes right down to what people's perceptions are surrounding the event. For instance, in my mind, I view Valentine's Day as a "holiday" for single people who are dating, for teenagers, and for small children who like pink and red cupcakes at a party.

*I* believe that once you get married or you commit to a long-term relationship, your "love" holiday becomes your anniversary. Leave the Cupid stuff for those who are still are still waiting to be shot by Cupid's arrow!;)

So, it comes down to if your husband thinks along those same lines, he might actually be surprised that you got him a card. I think many married people are done with Valentine's Day and just make the big deal out of anniversary. Obviously, many others don't feel this way.

That is so typical male!!! You make them feel guilty, so then they get mad at you!
I was shocked though, I actually got a box of chocolates today! I usually get nothing but a card, which is fine, but I sure do love chocolate!

I think that Hallmark holidays can be special too. I see nothing wrong with making a fuss on such days if that's what is important to you.

At least you got a card. ;)

OMG this is my DH as well...is it that difficult to make an effort to pick out a nice card, heck I'll even take a home made/hand written card!!!! I'm just saying. :rolleyes1 yes I did buy him a card, Sade's CD and his favorite candy....

dawn, I understand about the gripe, vent away. There have been Valentine's Days or special occsions where I have maybe felt a little bit like you did earlier. But there is hope...

This is my day today.

Was woken up to a lot of rustling this morning, thought "*now* what have the cats gotten into?!?" :lmao:
Finally figured out it was DH and maybe flowers were in the house :confused3 ?...
Came out in the kitchen and I was right, beautiful (WOW) cream roses with red edges in a vase AND a card.

Now you have to understand, the roads in our neighborhood are still truly AWFUL, but this wonderful man went out before I woke up and thought to get (and was *able* to get) flowers :teeth: .

We did make it to Costco yesterday, so using that stuff and things we had around the house, this is what I fixed for a family Valentine's Day brunch today...
Browned mushrooms & onions
Filet Mignon
Bernaise sauce
poached eggs
Southern-style biscuits
clementines
grapefruit
Costco champagne (don't laugh...this stuff is rated at 90 by Wine Spectator & would probably cost at least $80 in a restaurant, in other words we couldn't afford it if we were eating out)
Sweet Iced Tea
We had the filet mignon with a poached egg & bernaise sauce on top (an area-restaurant calls this "steak oscar") with the browned mushrooms & onions on the side
Fruit and/or biscuits were a second course

We were figuring out what this brunch would have cost if we would have eaten out, had gotten this quality of food and came up with a figure of at least $200 (area restaurant)? But then I thought for this quality (+ tip)? Upwards of the vicinity of $250/300 more like it... (*especially* with the Ruth's Chris'-quality of those enormous filets plus that great champagne).

I turned to my DH and to DD and made a toast..
"To the two people I love more than anyone else on Earth."

I am blessed.
agnes!

LOL yes I know exactly who it was for
Hahaha, enjoy!:lovestruc:goodvibes

DBF and I just had a quiet evening together chatting, watching a movie and cuddling. Pretty much boyfriend/girlfriend stuff that most do on any given night, but we're both so crazy busy that when we get to spend a quiet moment together, its awesome!

He and I are headed to the beach for Spring break so that'll be nice. :thumbsup2
