dawn, I understand about the gripe, vent away. There have been Valentine's Days or special occsions where I have maybe felt a little bit like you did earlier. But there is hope...
This is my day today.
Was woken up to a lot of rustling this morning, thought "*
now* what have the cats gotten into?!?"

Finally figured out it was DH and maybe flowers were in the house

?...
Came out in the kitchen and I was right, beautiful (WOW) cream roses with red edges in a vase
AND a card.
Now you have to understand, the roads in our neighborhood are
still truly AWFUL, but this wonderful man went out before I woke up and thought to get (and was *able* to get) flowers

.
We did make it to Costco yesterday, so using that stuff and things we had around the house, this is what I fixed for a family Valentine's Day brunch today...
Browned mushrooms & onions
Filet Mignon
Bernaise sauce
poached eggs
Southern-style biscuits
clementines
grapefruit
Costco champagne (don't laugh...this stuff is rated at 90 by Wine Spectator & would probably cost at least $80 in a restaurant, in other words we couldn't afford it if we were eating out)
Sweet Iced Tea
We had the filet mignon with a poached egg & bernaise sauce on top (an area-restaurant calls this "steak oscar") with the browned mushrooms & onions on the side
Fruit and/or biscuits were a second course
We were figuring out what this brunch would have cost if we would have eaten out, had gotten this quality of food and came up with a figure of at least $200 (area restaurant)? But then I thought for this quality (+ tip)? Upwards of the vicinity of $250/300 more like it... (*especially* with the Ruth's Chris'-quality of those enormous filets plus that great champagne).
I turned to my DH and to DD and made a toast..
"To the two people I love more than anyone else on Earth."
I am blessed.
agnes!
