Where is your favorite seat on the airplane?

I am flying for the first time next week and would like to know if it makes a difference where you sit on the airplane?

I'm with you shatzjsl. I cant wait to see the look on my kids faces when we get to cloud level.


The first time I can remember flying was when I was about 3 or 4. (I think) And I thought the clouds were mashed potatoes! I also got to go up front and visit the captain and got a pair of wings. Real good ones too. Not the cheap plastic ones.

It's a shame that you can't see the cockpit any more. One time I was on a small plane after 9/11 and the pilot left the door open so we could see through the windshield. It was wonderful watching him line the plane up with the runway.

My favorite spot is 2nd to last row, right side, window seat. You feel the most G Forces of all seats and you really get to experience the "Full Effect" if you could call a comerical jet that

Yes. But some are better than others. Our PoG is going to be noisy in the rear. It depends on where the jets are located.

Since I fly almost weekly and I mostly fly United, I like anything in Rows 1 -10 aisle seat. The rows in the front are noted at "Economy Plus" which have 5 extra inches of leg room. You have no idea how good that is when you are on longer flights. Most planes like the 737, 747, 757 and airbus 319/320 have Economy Plus. I also like exit row if they are available

We also like to be in front of the wings, but if you book late or have a big party, it's hard to get them.

Front of the wings has the most unobstructed view. Bulkhead seating is nice, but you can't get that with kids or seniors. You must be ready, willing, and physically able to help passengers off the flight to get those seats. They will actually ask you if you are willing to do so before they give you those seats sometimes.

I love flying into Orlando at night. Sometimes you can get terrific views of the parks!! It's soooo exciting!!

I try to get a seat as far in the front as I can. We flew on Spirit, last year. The back of the plane was really noisy. I'm so glad we didn't have a seat back there!

I personally love the bulkhead seats. I don’t need the extra space (I have short legs, which is a good thing on planes! ) and I try not to travel with any extra bags except my purse/tote. I just find those seats to be more relaxing – if other folks need to get in the aisle, they can easily walk around you. After years of traveling with toddlers, those seats feel like home! Sometimes I travel with my notebook and I don’t like to place that in the overhead bin, so on those occasions I like any of the rows toward the front of the plane. I have flown a lot in the past, so window or aisle seat is equally fine.

I prefer 2C or 2D. Aisle seat, first class.

If that's not an option, my next choice would be bulkhead or first row after the bulkhead in the front of the plane, aisle seat.

It really depends on what kind of aircraft you will be on as to how loud the back of the aircraft is. The front is always quieter as it is ahead of the jet engines. If the aircraft has the engines mounted on the wings it usually isn't too bad in the rear of the plane. If you are on an MD-80 or 727 (which there are few of flying commercial anymore) or one of those commuter jets with the rear fuselage mounted engines it can be rather loud in the back 6 or 8 rows. Some people like to sit over the wings as they feel less motion than far forward or aft. I just like to sit in a window seat. Forward is better because you are off first but back is ok too. As long as I am not in a middle seat (unless traveling with family) I am ok.

We like the ones we get on sale...

I know, I know, someone had to say it though.

We prefer as close to the front as well..but when the kids were little, we always asked for the back row...close to washrooms, food prep area, attendants were always handy...

I agree with Ducklite, though We've flown with the kids in Business a couple of times...and never fails, the next time we fly coach, the boys are wondering - out loud- why the seats are so small!!LOL

Yes. I also like exit rows for extra legroom.

However, unless someone is an elite frequent flyer (typically at least 25 thousand miles per year) on the airline or flying on an expensive, unrestricted ticket, the airline normally won't let you pre-reserve the exit row. Actually, the airline won't let you pre-reserve any of the best seats. Such seats as exit row seats, Economy Plus on United, and other extra legroom rows are usually unavailable to casual, leisure fare flyers.

Also, children under the age of 15 may not be seated in an exit row. This also applies to adults traveling with someone under 15 (even if the child is seated in a different row).

If you are carrying on lots of stuff for the overhead you may want to board in the first or second group. If your plane boards from the back if you have a seat up towards the front there may not be room in the bin.

The best advice if noise bothers you on the plane is to buy a seat of noise cancelling headphones. Best buy I have made in a long time.

I really prefer the two front rows when we fly Song. There is just more room for us and I like to be as far to the front of the plane as possible. When dh flies he wants those exit rows. Another tall guy with nasty long legs. I hate being behind the wing but looks like that's where I'll be in June.

I flew in a very small plane in Canada last weekend. I was so surprised that the co-pilot was the flight attendant. They left the door open for most of the time except take-off and landing.

Also, I was able to reserve the first row (bulkhead) ahead of time.

My favourite seat is the aisle seat in the first row on the left side as you enter the plane.
