I am so pathetic and obviously have WAY too much time on my hands.

Our March 10 flights on Airtran go MSP-MKE-MCO. I was tracking the flights arrival and departure gate at MKE and noticed they have been the same, so I wondered if it was the same plane...... it ended up being coincidence that it was the same gate as the plane we landed on takes off and another lands, which is the one we would be on......

I started digging to see where our aircraft is coming from...... right now it is NY-LGA, but in March it had changed... so I went through EVERY possible flight into MKE and found out that Wash Reagan (DCA) is where the aircraft is coming from. I know, I am pathetic........

BUT, I now can track the incoming flight to see if it is on time in hopes that our connection is also on time........ that is as long as they don't make schedule changes between now and then......

I know others have posted the question wondering how you find out where the aircraft is coming from........... I can now tell you where every one of Airtran's 700 daily flights go... :rotfl2:

Call me pathetic...... I can take it!

OK I'll bite, you're pathetic.:rotfl2:
Just kidding, sounds like something I might do at some point if I had a lot of time on my hands and nothing better to do. I have been known to do crazy things like that for no good reason.

yep, had plenty of time on my hands tonight....... that's what 13.5 hours at your office desk will do for you........

Airlines re-work where individual planes arrive from on a daily basis using very advanced computer scheduling to maximize efficiency based on the previous day's delays. It is pointless trying to guess where the plane is coming from unless the airline only serves one destination from that airport.

When the plane is arriving from Regan for a few days or even two weeks in a row, it is pure coincidence based on what the computer scheduling system finds most efficient.

Oh, I know it will most likely change..... did I mention I had too much time on my hands tonight? :)

It is funny, when I pick flights in the winter time, I check where the plane is coming from, since if it is a place that planes can not get out of regularly then I avoid it.

We're on the direct flight from BOS. I THINK it just goes back and fourth...is that possible?? The return flight number changes by 1.

I'm home sick today so I have time on my hands..lol

I did something similar for our 2008 trip....I recorded the flights take off time and arrival time for over 6 months prior to our trip and got an average of when we would land in Atlanta and MCO....(yeah, I had way too much time on my hands then)...when it was time for our flight....we were early on both flights going, and way late on the way back home....

Tracking it keep me busy and it was kinda fun

OMG, I am not the only one like this in the world! LOL

You could be right - you could be something other than right ;)

I know absolutely JetBlue flight 778 from LAS to BOS is the same plane as JetBlue flight 777 from BOS to LAS. If the (currently) 7:30-7:40 PM Boston departure is delayed, so will be the 11:30 PM departure from Las Vegas. That's pretty much a given. It's been the same for about four years.

But I would have thought flight 777 would have been on a plane that arrived in Boston reasonably close to 7:30, no? No. Well, not necessarily. When I flew in mid-December, I happened to get to the airport extremely early. I caught the airport bus an hour earlier than I needed, so I was there by 4:45 (no flames). Slightly after 5 PM, I was having a cigarette (again, no flames ;)) and a nice conversation with a flight attendant who, on discovering my destination, said, "Oh, we just brought your plane in from Denver".

So at least that day, my departing plane was at the airport over two and a half hours before we needed it.

And we still left late :rotfl2:

I think the airlines route their planes depending on the route and amount of people they are expecting or can get. For example, Jetblue operates the Airbus A320 out of white plains from new york(White plains is a smaller airport, and generally use the Embraer E190). However, bigger airport like of course new york, orlando, denver, chicago, Los Angeles etc have planes always stationed there and depending on schedules (Very complicated) can ferry the aircraft over to certain airports.
