Where is the search function?

I've merged more Search threads together. Again, nothing has changed since post #6. :)

Brian~ you might want to put a temporary sticky post about the search engine being down~ that way we will know and won't have to ask ... like I said I would have done a search to find the answer ..he he

OK, am I crazy, is it my computer, or is the search feature in another place?:confused3

You are definitely not crazy, it is gone for me too, and just when I wanted ot use it :confused3

I can't find it either. Did it disappear after the updates on Saturday night?

Just to bump this thread back up, here's a repost of what WebmasterAlex posted on the Technical Support board about the Search function:

WebmasterAlex said:
It's temporarily turned off, it was causing some of the load issues we were seeing earlier today, we are working on it
Stay tuned! :)

Thanks, Brian!! Hopefully it will be back soon - and thanks for all the hints on how to google search - I'll use that in the meantime!

Okay, I realize that it's late, but I was just going to search the forum by key words, and the search feature . . . is missing! Am I just not seeing it, or it it really gone? I realize there was some lengthy maintenance going on Sunday, and perhaps the feature was removed. Either that, or it's still here somewhere, I'm not seeing it and I just need some sleep! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

You're right, it's not viewable. Don't know if this happened after the upgrade and/or if it's a permanent thing. I need to do a search as well.

There wasn't a search function before. There was a button that said it would search the boards, but it didn't function. ;)

Use Google - enter your search term and then "site:disboards.com" and you'll find whatever it is you're looking for.

The search feature we had been using turns out not to be compatible with the new version of the forums. We think we may have found a solution though that will finally address the search issue on the boards. I hope to be able to announce something to that effect in the next week or so. It's an expensive option, but if it works, it will be worth it.

Thanks,
Pete

Why not use the built in Vbulletin search? Or is this board to big for it?

The native search in VB can't handle large boards. We've asked them for years to do something about it, but the vast majority of VB sites are much smaller than ours, so it's not a real development priority for them, which I understand. I'm hesitant to talk too much about the search feature we're working on because I've had my hopes dashed for years when it comes to this topic - but it is working on several other sites as large, or larger than this and it's pretty cool - very feature rich and much better than anything we've had before. Keep your fingers crossed and hope it works. As I said, we're hoping to be able to announce something in the next week or so.
