We have heard from the Muslim community on the refusal of the United States to allow Cat Stevens into the country. They have weighed in on the news, radio and in print; HOWEVER, where is the outrage from the Muslim community on the beheadings and murders of the Italian women? If even !% of them took to the streets to condemn the other !%, of their radical brothers, that would be 1 million people. The silence continues to be deafening.

You know the answer to this.

One thing my DH has found. He works in a major city where there is a large, peace loving, muslim community. They are frightened. They rush from one place to another and do not linger in public. They do not speak out against their muslim brothers. They are probably more concerned then we are. If they speak out, there most probably will be terrible personal consequences.

I would imagine that this is a big factor.

Oh my God! Dawn, I completely missed the Italian women being beheaded - when did it happen?? I am sick.

I remember that there was not silence from the Muslim community following 9/11. I VIVIDLY remember watching the TV coverage of Muslims cheering and celebrating the attacks on America.:(

I AM NOT saying that ALL Muslims rejoiced - but there was an awful lot of coverage on the jubilation of a great many of them.

A local mosque is sponsoring Hensley's memorial service here in Marietta. That's not silence on a local level. On a national and worldwide level, there should be more outrage. Islam is under attack....from within.

Please don't start that again you guys - there are things that you could show tiny factions of Amercans doing in little news snippets that would make our entire country look bad if people watched them if they wanted to believe all americans were like that. Let's not polarize any more - we've got to start getting everyone outraged together about this, as Dawn points out.

I don't know the circumstances of their deaths or if in fact they have taken place, other than two terrorists groups are taking "responsibility" for them. Don't you just love that word "responsibility" when talking about these barbarians?

Yes, I remember that too. It was so sickening. There were many many on the streets of many muslim countries rejoicing.

Yes, I heard about the poor Italian women yesterday. I also have been hearing all the complaints about Cat Stevens. Where is the outrage from the Muslims around the world, not just here, about these barbaric beheadings? I just don't understand. :sad1:

The Muslim community HAS to be outraged! It is there radicalized members that are perpetrating these horrific crimes. They may be "frightened" to express themselves but there is safety in numbers. There are a billion Muslims. There are a million Wahabis which comprise about 1%. Even if 1% of the rest of the Muslim community spoke out, these radicals could be defeated within. The rest of us seem sufficiently outraged, which delights those who would do us harm.

So much for my plea for not characterizing by what we see on tv:( How would you like it if they showed white supremecy rallies in the US to other coutries and people thought, "Americans are horrible!!!!"

I'm just posting my opinion as you have. I strongly disagree with you.

And how so? I know you don't like me - but what have I said that is wrong?

I am not characterizing by what I see but by what I DON'T see. I want to see Muslims demonstrating in the streets of every country against the barbarism that has taken over their religion. If they are the religion of peace, I want to see some evidence that they are condemning these horrific acts and I want to see it in numbers.

When have I ever said I didn't like you? Quite the opposite actually and I told you in another thread that I didn't want to argue with you because I liked you. We can disagree and still like each other can't we?

I didn't say you said anything wrong. I said I disagree with you and what I diagree with you on is your opinion when you compare the rejoicing in the streets by many muslims after 9/11 to "How would you like it if they showed white supremecy rallies in the US to other coutries and people thought, "Americans are horrible!!!!"" I see it as no comparision.

IMHO

I must say however, that I am appalled at what I have seen and I do think it is representative of a large number of people. When we have seen KKK rallies in the United States, we have been appalled and have condemned them. Often, simultaneously there is a counter demonstration to their marches. They don't occur spontaneously but require planning and recruiting. Remember that much of the cheering and celebrating in the Arab streets were spontaneous and I think reflective of too many Muslims. It has to be counteracted from within.

That's what we see, though, Dawn. We see what we're shown. What if the media just kept showing groups of skinheads (and there are alot of White Supremesists in this country, to use that undefinable word "alot":D ) screaming obscenities at a rally. OMG, that would seem pretty scary to black folks in Africa, for example, if that's all they saw!

I think that the point is that other countries COULD be shown only snippets of the KKK rallies with no mention of any condemnation by anyone else. I'm not convinced that it's the same either but it is possible I suppose.

What about when Timothy Mcveigh blew up the Federal buildings? I guess outsiders could fixate on that too.

The media has so much power to influence. Remember when all of those school shootings started happening in succession? I blame the media for highlighting the episodes so much. Notice how the shootings have eased up because the media has moved on!
