When I was younger and my parents took us to MK, we always ate at the restaurant that was where Tony's is now. This was back in the late 80's/early 90's. They had the Monte Cristo sandwich, that is my alltime favorite at Disney! I have searched and searched and can only find it at DisneyLAND.:sad1: Well....I want to find it at WDW! So I have 2 questions....

1 - Where can I get my ever-elusive Monte Cristo?

2 - Anyone remember the name of the restaurant I'm referring to?

The only place I know of is in California at Disneyland's Blue Bayou.. a WONDERFUL!! restaurant. I am hoping someonw on the board knows of a place in Florida.. it's a great sandwich.

Haven't seen it anywhere in WDW. We have it here at DL, not only at Blue Bayou but also Cafe Orleans.:goodvibes

Town Square Cafe was the name of the restaurant back then I think...or something close.

Castillo Mom, the last time we were at DL, we loved splitting a Monte Cristo and a salmon salad at Cafe Orleans. Sooo good.

1) Towne Square Cafe, before this was the Tony's Town Square Italian Restaurant.
2) Victorian setting and was sponsored by Oscar Mayer and later Hormel.
3) It changed to Tony's Town Square Restaurant on July 24, 1989.

It's not a monte cristo but Chefs de France in Epcot makes a really good croque monsieur! :thumbsup2

OMG!! You just brought back happy memories!!! The two times I went to DW with my Father (who passes away about 15 yrs. ago) he always got, loved and raved about their Monde Cristo sandwich! He always said he wanted to go back just for that. One time in the 70s, the other in the 80s, so of course I can't remember where we went!! Thanks for starting this topic! You made me smile!!:)

Glad I could do that:wizard: I have very fond memories of that place too, obviously!
Boatwrights-Port Orleans Riverside

REALLY??? OMGwarsh! Thank you!:worship::worship::worship:

The first Monte Cristo I ever had was back in the 70's at Columbia Harbor House.

If you have a Cheddar's restaurant near you - I'm not sure how far they've spread - their Monte Cristo is mighty fine. Finishing a whole one is pretty much out of the question, and for me, that's saying something.

But at WDW - can't help ya.

mmmmmm I love Monte Cristos. What a great question! I don't know for sure about at Boatwrights because I don't recall them having it there last year. Maybe some can confirm for sure!

My DH and I got the Monte Cristo at Columbia Harbor House back in 1989. Everytime we walk past there, all we talk about are those sandwich's. I wish they'd bring them back. I even tried making them at home. Too much trouble and didn't taste the same, plus fell apart if I didn't seal them right. Grrr. Oh, please...bring them back! I thought we were the only ones who missed them!!!!

Boatwrights didn't have a Monte Cristo the last time I ate there, so I'd double check on that. Olivia's used to have it but now its gone too.

Its a heart attack on a plate but I sure do love them! Can't wait to have one in Disneyland in October and I really wish they'd bring one to someplace inside WDW too.

:sad2:I didn't see them on the menu at Boatwrights either:sad1: All excited for nothing! Ah well...we should do a petition or something to get WDW to bring them back:laughing: They were sooooo good!!!

This thread has really started to pique my interest. So tell me about the Monte Cristo. What was in it?

Deep fried ham & cheese sandwich dusted with powdered sugar. It usually served with a berry side sauce. It is OMG good.:)

Not at WDW, but Bennigan's has them. I haven't tried it. I'm not a big fan of Bennigan's, but I've dined with someone who loves them.

I was just about to say bennigans! But they closed the one by me... loved the monte cristo... so fattening...but sooo good!!!
