Where is the Best Night Hot Spot?????

I wouldn't say someone's comment is ignorant just becuase they haven't been to a place. If enough people tell you not to eat at a certain restaurant becuase of bad food or service or whatever and you value they're opinion, you're likely not to try it. If you do try it and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, it will take some time before that bad taste goes away. It's been several years since I've lived in FL but even I am aware of the rep of P-house. I can't remember if I've been there or not on a trip years ago. If they are trying to clean things up kudos to them. However, it will take time before that bad taste they left in many people's mouth goes away. Word of mouth is great advertising so hopefully enough people will go and start spreading good words and change their image. Just my $.02 :)

And once again I miss the Napolean Club in Boston! It was the best piano bar EVER! :sad2:

And hey - Judy Garland sang there!
The real one.
Let's all genuflect - shall we.

I kind of hate how certain bars get bad reps if they don't follow the stereotypical "young-and-pretty" trend. That happens here a lot. I've heard several "young-and-pretty" types put down certain bars simply because their main clientele have an average age of 35 and over........and some of these bars are really great in my opinion. But we're in an age now where "young-and-pretty" is all that matters. One of the "YAP" bars down the street from me often has guys 50-55 who have obviously had surgery done, and are dressed in clothes that most 17 or 18 year-olds couldn't even pull off......and they do it so they can be "in","trendy" and young-looking. A few doors down from there there's another bar where you're lucky to get service if you weigh over 200 pounds. I even heard one of the ditzy waiters that works there say this about someone who tried to talk to him at one of the bars he considered being trashy: "Oh my gawwwwd! This guy was, like, at LEAST 200 pounds. Sick. That place makes me sick." I was entirely offended because not only did I go to that bar, but I weigh over 200 pounds!

And then there's the whole speculation and hearsay thing that drives me nuts. (In one of the performance organizations I'm a member of I had a few people come up to me and tell me that they thought I was being snobbish and they believed I thought I was better than they were because I tend to not say much when in the group. That's when I informed them that I had mild autism........and that you learn more from listening than you do from talking all the time. :rolleyes1) I've heard horrible reviews for restaurants that I wind up going to and loving, and vice versa. I guess you just have to experience something for yourself before any conclusions can be drawn.

Okay.....I'm done yammering now.

Good post.

Ive had some time to ponder why certain posts in the this thread are aggravating. Heres what Ive decided... A lot of times when I mention Parliament House around town I get negative reactions. I find almost invariably though, that the ones who are negative about it have never been, or havent been in a decade or more.

Its also frustrating when someone bashes a place they havent been to. Its one thing to hear something bad about a place and then decide not to go on your own. Thats fine! But to talk trash about something that you have never experienced is an entirely different story.

If everyone keeps telling each other that some place sucks and no one in the group ever bothers to actually try it out, then the reputation will never improve. Theres no doubt that there is still a "skeevy" side to Parliament House, but theres nothing that says you have to participate in it. Yes, theres balcony bingo, no ive never had sex at Parliament House. Yes, there was erotica night, and yes I was there for it. Whats wrong with porn? Porn is great!

All in all, Parliament House is a great time (now. its history has been tumultous). If anyone feels otherwise and wants to try it out, rather than relying on third hand accounts, just hit me up and Ill gladly go down there with you and show you a fun evening.

I'm the same way about most things.....especially when it comes to media and restaurants. As far as the latter is concerned, you really need to take the source into consideration.

The source.
Well listen to this - the great Grommet Magazine did a big splashy review
a restaurant in Boston as if they were at opening night - and because of construction delays
they actually did not open for another month.
Someone forgot to hold the story.
Guess they can time travel at gourmet.

I agree - and this should be your tag. :lmao:
Oh Tag fairy!

Soooooo, lemme get this straight.....
They did a write-up of a place no one from the magazine had ever been to?

Hmmmm.....I hear the layoff fairy coming. And if no one else does, I'll gladly dress like her and take over her duties. :wizard:

They may have been to it pre construction.
They may have even taste sample menus.

But as for reviewing the service and ambience -
I don't see how since it was not open for a month or more later.
The article had them at "the opening" :rolleyes1
and described the Buzz.
FYI - This restaurant has changed quite a while ago.
It's now a upscale steak place.

I dunno.....
The mortar and gravel look might be an interesting twist for dining environments.

I know how you feel.
I've always had a great time at Parliament House.

Rob -- that IS you Sweetie! You are all that and more... I'd think they'd be proud to have you, there. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

You lie beautifully!

In all honesty, I know I'm not their target demographic, and for the most part I don't care.

I just hate that they perpetuate the idea that young, buff, smooth, and tan are the only things that equal "attractive" in our society. It's a toxic notion that hurts far more people than it draws in to the vapid party culture they're promoting.
