Where is Josh D'Amaro?

The defense is strong in this one. It amazes me the lengths people will go to defend the Mouse.

If more people held the mouse to the standard they hold for their bank / CC company / or grocery store, I would not even need to write about this stuff but as long as people defend the mouse, the mouse will abuse their customers even more till even for the defenders it's too much, WDW has been my happy place for 30+ years however in the last 5-6 years yeah for a couple of years gave em a break, After that the 'What have you done for me lately' standard applies and in Disney's case they dont meet the standard they set for THEMSELVES.

You obviously weren't going back in the 80s/90s when WDW was truly a magical experience.

Precisely I started my visits to WDW in 1992, So yeah I got to LIVE the Disney Decade capped off with AKL, It would have continued had not the european fiscal crisis crashed the DLP project and all PR took cuts so that DLP could be 'finished'.

Well, that was the same year as my first visit as well. Still doesn't change my viewpoint. I just don't see how when you started going affects how I view the parks now.

I'll just continue to enjoy my fabulous trips and not try to degrade something I love.

But thats your argument with everything, you dont believe it so it must not be true.

The facts are more clear than you want to accept.

Well if we really want to go into the weeds here is a little piece from the well known fake news source called Investors Business Daily

https://www.investors.com/news/walt-disney-animation-stock-revived-in-1980s-1990s-under-eisner/
From the begining of Eisner's tenure to the middle of the 'Disney Decade' 1996, Eisner increased the market cap of Disney from 2 billion to 53 billion which is a 2,550 percent increase. Due to some bungles and the dotBomb fiscal crisis the overall increase from Eisner's 20 years was approximately 800% closer to 900% actually but i'm understating the number. But the reality is Eisner took a 2 Billion company and turned it into a empire, Iger's current 'success' is an artifact of too much money sloshing around in the Wall St casino. chasing too few good opportunities. The 2018 Market cap was 180 Billion which is a much more realistic number.

Using a 2006 Market Cap of 53 billion and the current runup to 341 Billion Iger scores a 518% in market cap increase I'd say we have a winner here and it AINT IGER.

For those who were never taught mathematics you can use just 2 and 53 you dont need the 9 zeroes.

So yo can calculate it yourself. This kiddies is what's called RESEARCH. unlike most people my mind does not shut down when presented with large numbers.

What are you talking about? I was questioning your numbers for how much Disney invests in the parks. Are you just trolling?

It was in late February. I enjoy fireworks, but it's far from a deal breaker for me to miss out on those.

ETA: It wasn't quite as nice as my August trip (it's hard to beat walking right on to FOP 5 times in a row). But it was still fantastic, and definitely one of my all time favorite trips.
Interesting! Do you mind sharing what specifically made your recent February trip one of your all-time favorites? It seems most people are really struggling with the eroded park experiences, closed restaurants/shows/entertainment and long lines crowding park walkways right now, so I'm genuinely interested to know what details made that trip one of the best ever for you.

So you were okay, with Pressler's cost cutting back in 1994 and there after. In fact buying into DVC even though the experience had decreased post Pressler.

but not okay with what may or may not be going on now? MInd you we don't know what Disney may be look like once covid runs its course. You are constantly saying that this or that are not returning. You don't know. You just make BLANKET statements.

Much like when you said if a a manager or line employee makes a negative comment about an executive/manager they would be on the unemployment line. I pointed out that is not the case in my experience. You then used one example of an IT company that did this. I don't disagree that this happens, but it is not universal as you implied your atatement.

I also work in the IT industry. I have been involved in multi-million dollar procurements (hardware and software) One of the factors we use is the "follow-up" and how much the "follow-up" support will add to the cost. Unless your company is closely held, I am sure the bean counters take in account about how much the so-call "free" customer service will ultimately cost the company. For example, if you go to a customer company for a week, then you salary is a cost to your company to support the customer, so it needs to be built into the initial bid as a contingency.

I also understand how companies will do a loss-leader and provide great customer support for the initial buy, with the expectation that they will be able to do additional sales.

Just to make sure we're clear, Eisner was responsible for the dumpster fire that DCA was when it opened, right? Because he was. You have no clue what you're talking about.

I was appalled at Pressler's cost cutting, In fact my first thought upon hearing about Chapek was oh crap the second coming of Paul Pressler, Chapek has done all the damage that Pressler had and more, the only thing that has not happened yet is people getting killed because Pressler did not believe in maintenance, of course neither does Chapek.

As to 'free' customer support at my shop you pay or you get NOTHING except a email telling you to re-up your service contract, That said After you pay we cover you like a blanket it's expensive yes but it's our business model and it beats our competitors like a drum.

Disney is not free nor is it a charity, It has until Iger and Chapek took over operated on a high touch customer service model, unfortunately the Bob's want to transform that into a 'no touch' service model and keep the revenues that they used to put into customer service.

If you went to a restaurant and for years ordered a filet mignon specially prepared and paid the price, How would you feel if one day you ordered the same meal and instead a hamburger had been substituted for the filet mignon oh and the price increased substantially as well, You complain and are told lots of people like it - Have a steakhouse day. Yeah it's still beef and it may be high quality but it's not the product you came to love over the years. That's how I feel about Disney today, Neither the product or quality are what they were in years past. Yeah it's still a 'theme park' and says Disney out front but the comparison ends there.

I want a Disney fix myself, Trouble is if I visit Disney I'm reinforcing to management that I find their current product acceptable, I do not, If more people held Disney accountable and took their vacation dollars elsewhere and Disney found that their numbers were dropping perhaps some positive change could happen. But that's only after the 'I want my Disney fix no matter what they cut out of the experience' attitude changes.

this is actually a really good analogy.

I don't need to make up numbers - anyway here is a snapshot of the relevant portion of Disney's 2016 SEC filing - The information is under Selling, General administrative and Other. Remember when I mentioned EDGAR well that's where this came from.

Unfortunately its impossible to do a quantitative analysis based on these numbers but you can determine general trends plus of late Iger likes to crow about how much he's reduced park CAPEX so earning calls transcripts are a useful starting point if you are interested in HOW Disney spends it's money. Otoh Eisner liked to brag about how much Disney was spending on improving the experience so once again earning call transcripts are a great place to start.

If one is interested all the data is out there - you have to FIND it and then distill it for your application but its all there and waiting to be explored.

Does anyone remember the Sassagoula Float Works, CS over in Port Orleans BEFORE it was renovated it had a real over the top 'N Awlins feel about the place (New Orleans is one of my favorite places EXCEPT during Mardi Gras). Lots of floats and accessories like one would see at one of the Krewe's clubhouses,
After Renovation - Same name a couple sad pieces remain to remind us Dinosaurs what USED to be there but my local hospital cafeteria now has more warmth and charm then that (former) outpost of 'N Awlins.

We can lay that one at Chapek's door - one was magical the other most hospitals have the atmosphere beat by 100 miles and many of the classic 'N Awlins dishes went away as well. Why does this downgrade make me angry because a meal there was one of the treats I looked forward to with great anticipation. The current menu generates no excitement by comparison. Burgers / chix fingers / fish / and watered down jambalaya, They do have a king cake as well. But beignet's and coffee with chicory bzzt nope and other small 'N Awlins treats all gone

So you still can’t back up your wild assertions? That’s good to know that you made it up.

You could get beignets at POFQ, but only at Scat Cat's Club as we couldn't find them at POR.

I do remember how more Big Easy themed SFFF was and our recent visits just felt it was more sanitized. The offerings were certainly not inline with what I would expect in a New Orleans themed resort(s). I'm not asking for a Commander's Palace or Antoine's, but certainly more than a weak jambalaya; it was uninspiring.

I think there is real chance to create a more authentic eatery and drinks at the resort (I'm looking at Pat O'Brien's at Citywalk as comparison).

You ignored my question.

You were okay with Pressler's cut back years ago that were made permanent But now are not okay with Chapek's cutbacks that may be temporary due to Covid?

Your company charges a premium for an extreme positive customer service experience. Has that always been the case back when it was a startup? Again as I said customer service is a cost.

I don't understand why you feel it is your duty to repeatedly day after day post negative comments about Disney and their business practices.

I get one every so often, but you seem obsessive.

At this point, If this board had an "ignore" button for certain posters like another board (unrelated to Disney) that I peruse, I would pushing it here in the next day or so for you.
