Where is it written not to use a pool towel if you run out of towels?

I've read on here that "DVC says" not to use pool towels if you need an extra one. Can someone site where that fact is coming from? I read everything I receive from DVC and haven't come across that piece of info.

An update: I emailed MS (thanks to Dean's suggestion) Todd said that they would like us to use a pool towel to walk back to our room if we are wet to prevent slippery floors and the potential of a fall. The towels should be returned to the pool bin at our earliest convenience. As far as taking "a few back to the room," they would request us not to because there may not be enough for other pool guests.

I want to say when we bought in someone with DVC told us it was easier to get towels from the pool if we needed extra towels. :confused3

I memory serves me (and sometimes it doesn't) it was posted by the pool/laundry area near where the towels are stored at OKW quiet pool.

I have read it somewhere, but can't recall exactly where.
That said, if we use just a wee bit of common sense...

Hmmm, you mean like why would they charge you for towel packs if they intended for you to be picking up freebies at the pool? :rolleyes1

I agree... common sense.

:rotfl2: I sure hope that wasn't a consideration in your purchase decision!

I believe that's correct, at least at OKW. I think every towel station has a sign that says the towels are to be returned to the bin, and not taken to the rooms.

Yes, my guide (who was otherwise rather accurate with things like allocation) mentioned using pool towels. I think that's a sales technique to quickly deflect a negative.

From a practical consideration, I have heard that room towels must (by govt regulation) be more thoroughly sanitized.

They solved the problem at Vero by doing it in reverse.. Housekeeping now puts your pool towels in your room.

We usually wrap the kids in pool towels for the walk back to the room. Esp. if we are at the end of the long hallway at BWV or WLV--that is a lot of A/C to walk through wet! We don't use them for showers though. They are definately rougher and scratchy.

Wonder if we had the same guide....mine suugested the same.

Thats what it says..not to take them to the rooms, I thought this was a little off since you are just getting the soaking wet kids out of the pool and your not allowed to take the towels to the room. I just took them to the room, finished drying off and then returned them when we were all dressed.

I will admit to allowing my child take a towel to the room to keep warm after the sun has set.

I don't believe that sign is posted at SSR.

So then there's the question of taking pool towels to the water parks (instead of having to pay for them there)?

You ready for this one? At WDW the towels come from separate inventory and the pool towels are not laundered by the same people as the room laundry. Disney purposely provides a different style towel for the pools so that they can easily be identified. They don't want to spend time having to sort towels because Guests took pool towels to their rooms.

Actually I think the reverse it true. I know Matt Gibbs, then VP with DVC, told me it cost significantly more to launder pool towels than room towels.

In addition to being posted, I think it's also in the papers you get at checkin.

That's the way most Marriott's and many other timeshares do it. Many then give you the option of exchanging pool towels to get clean ones, others don't. Another similar option is that many resorts let you check them out, usually by giving you some type of card to do so. In all cases they can and often will charge you if the towels are missing even if stolen at the pool.

The fact that a timeshare salesperson skirted the rules, common sense and common decency is irrelevant, it's in their nature for many of them and has no reasonable bearing on the appropriateness of the choices we make as members. Put another way, that one was told this as part of the sales process does not make it reasonable to do so. I doubt any of us have a problem with someone taking a wet pool towel back to the room while wearing it. However, if we do so, we need to be diligent about getting them back to the right inventory at some point.

It's NO difference in principle than taking them to the room to avoid extra charges there.

Again, if this is a "rule" then it should be consistant across the board at all the resorts and written somewhere. Since it doesn't seem to be consistant and different Disney employees say different things, then maybe it isn't a "rule."

The quality of the resort towels are much nicer than the pool towels and many people would rather have a soft towel in their room. This would then make sense to charge for a towel package. Picking up an extra pool towel or walking back to the room with a towel is something different. Used pool towels would need to be returned to the pool for cleaning. :laundy:

I know I've seen it written and to my knowledge, it is consistent at all resorts. That it's not officially published in the POS or in the Guidebook isn't particularly relevant in this situation. If we hold what CM say at the rule, we're all in a world of trouble because Disney in general is nothing if not inconsistent. To hold the fact there is some verbal variability as an excuse to take the pool towels would be far more unreasonable than anything else being discussed here. I'd suggest you contact MS or better yet, DVC management to get an official statement on the matter. As I alluded to above, I've had this exact discussion with DVC management in the past. Regardless, I don't think it'll matter if people use a towel and take it back to the room and return it later. It does matter and is an issue for those taking pool towels to have extra's in the room and avoid the charges (water parks as well). It costs us all money and is a reflection on their character, IMO.
