I see, no one cares about being able to easily access posts and therefore we should all be so happy. OK. You all completely miss the point of giving forums themes and titles. I see that ignorance is really bliss.

No, I care. There was a poll last year or the year before - thread still pinned, poll closed - on whether there should be a Community subforum for all the threads that aren't specifically budget related. You know - all the threads you listed and more.

The majority seemed to like the clutter, or misunderstood the intent (or location?) of the subforum.

I respond to and sometimes post threads that may be "off-topic" because there are a lot of like-minded, savvy people on this forum and I've learned a lot. If it's not your cup of tea, why whine?

2 years ago I was "blissfully ignorant" (to borrow OP's words) with the amount of credit card debt I had. I was ok with it, accepted it as what the average person does anyway, and ignored it until I found the Debt Dumpers 2013 thread. Since then I have paid off 9 credit cards/debts.
If I can resist Disney's recent offer for free dining this fall, I'll have the rest paid off by Dec 10, then be able to pay off dh's truck loan 8 months early.

This has been life-altering for me and I owe it all to my peeps here.

If I don't like what's on TV, I change the channel. Try it.

The boards do switch up sometimes. I remember a few years ago when the budget board had lots of investing questions, around Christmas time you get lots of shopping questions.

Questions about "what should I buy my teen" or "any ideas for a Christmas present for my aunt" aren't budget related (plus, if the poster can't figure out what to buy someone they know, how can a bunch of strangers?); "where can I get the best price on ____" does fit here. And why isn't there discussion about investing? That's budget related. What to see in wine country, not so much.

Years ago, there wasn't a Codes and Rates subforum on the Resorts board. Members would come to this board instead of the TPAS to find out how to upgrade tickets or where to buy them for less than the gate price. Car rental discounts became the domain of the Transportation board, instead of the Budget board. There were more discounts: remember the Magic Key Club? AAA discounts? Length of Stay passes?

I think the Codes and Rates subforum came about because there were so many related questions on the Resorts board. Upgrading tickets - which, really, the bulk of the questions were on TPA&S anyway - 'became the domain of' that forum because that's where the ticket sticky is posted. Ticket questions really are theme park related. Rental cars are transportation. I remember the Magic Kingdom Club...

I have learned so much from this board regarding budgeting, sales, coupons, stacking discounts, frugal thinking and thought processes, that I couldn't fathom it being formatted in any other way. Without the benefits realized from these strategies, our upcoming WDW trip and Disney Cruise would be inconceivable.

I disagree - the suggestions borne of these threads help me to shop for others like nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends, birthday presents, etc. -- Definitely affects my budget.

There are only a few ways to save money at Disney - if you want to review them - I'll highly recommend Mousesavers. You can read through most of the material in a few hours and will get far more information more efficiently than wading through random threads here

If you have questions, feel free to open a thread here, many people here are happy to give advice on how to trim your Disney budget or how certain discounts work.

Wow. My thought is, if you don't like what's on a forum, don't go there. Find one that better suits your needs. Easy peasy, problem solved! LOL

This one should suit my needs as I am working out our BUDGET for disney and figuring out how to stretch some things and what I should just cough up the dough for and not cheap out on.

Theoretically this is the forum I should be reading. In practice I find that I can't slog through all the junk to find the meat. There are so many off topic discussions that even very specifically worded searches turn up page after page of useless non info.

And this whole attitude of if you don't like it get lost is bologna. How does anything ever get better if you tell people to pound sand?

There are umpteen ways to save money at Disney. I am finding them slowly but surely and I can promise you mousesavers doesn't have all the answers.

This is my favorite forum on th Dis! I have been a lurker for years and have gained so much from reading the Budget board. It's like a smorgasbord - take what you like and can use and leave the rest.

OP - take a look at the second thread from the top of this board, especially the last page. It answers your question. This board, simply by choice of the moderators and vocal participants, has been allowed to morph into a separate, somewhat insular "community" for those that feel the actual DIS Community Board (where many of these posts really belong) is too ascerbic. I guess they feel "safer" here because it is assumed that everybody here is somewhat like-minded; very different from the real Community Board.

Funny thing is, the Mods asked this board if it wanted a "Budget Community Subforum" and the vast majority of respondents said no because it would dilute the feeling of "community" they had already established here. OK, whatever. But FWIW, I agree with your objective assessment. Your assertions though have brought out the need for Budget Board veterans to defend a turf they have carefully cultivated.

You and I must have read different threads then because "the vast majority" did not exist. There were just as many voices for a sub forum as against. Just because there is no moderator doesn't mean there is not a crowd of people that feel it's unusable it just means the people who are scared of change chased them all off.

Well, if being upset over something like this is what you want to do, that's up to you. If I go to the grocery store and they don't have what I'm looking for, I don't stand in the store and complain to management for hours. I go somewhere else to find what I need. I guess we all have different ways of handling things, but what is posted on a forum (unless it's totally inappropriate) is not what I choose to get on my soapbox about.

I'll be shocked if they aren't things most of us either don't know (this board IS more of a community board, I've been here 14 years now) or are against Disney policy and therefore against board rules to post - but give it a go. After you watch for codes, stay off site or take advantage of free dining, get your tickets from the Mousesavers link, use your red card or Kroger card to stack discounts, bring in snacks or food, pre-buy souvenirs - and variations thereof - you are done until you have more time than money and can do things like sit in a timeshare presentation for six hours to get one day tickets. Airfare and car rental deals go on the transportation board - we will take them here though. Oh, a whole bunch of things that are only valid to a subset of people - e.g. using airmiles.

I will tell you that I AM lazy. I am not here to work or to meet your needs. This isn't a job, its entertainment. For me and everyone else on this board.

Here's the thing...practically nobody but you thinks anything needs to "get better". Personally, I'm not a big Budget Board cheerleader and find the premise of your complaint valid. But you are going to change NOTHING here - understand that your 2 choices are "like it or lump it". Go away and never come back or stay and participate in whatever threads interest you or as you so self-centeredly put it "suit your needs". Either way, this board is not going to change...
