Is it in a common area? The wood grain seems out of place for Boardwalk. Would it be on a wall?

Well, it is a common area, as in the public can walk through it. We were on our way from the lobby to the Boardwalk. It's not wood, or furniture or a book but would you have ever guessed this?:
