Where in Orlando,do you HAVE to eat?

I just had to chime in with our experience of Dixie Crossroads. The food was....um......ordinary, to say the most. I would call it 'awful', but that would be unkind. ;)

We met friends at Dixie Crossroads and each had a separate meal, with all of us agreeing it was one step up (maybe....or maybe one step sideways) from fast food. A huge disappointment, since it's true the other branches of Dixie Crossroads came highly recommended.
Thanks for this, Susan - one to strike from the list.

SHHHHHHHSHHH!! Keep it quiet!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
This is a superb non touristy eating plavce, always full of the locals, good home cooked type food and relaxing
But don't let them know on this Forum, else they all will want to go! :rotfl: :rotfl:

(P.S. I did send this as a PM didn't I???) :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
The first time I spotted a Cracker Barrel, I thought it looked fantastic and couldn't stop the car fast enough (or, rather, couldn't shout at Matt loudly enough to stop the car :rotfl: ). Once we got inside, though, I was bemused. Part Shaker gift shop, part barn serving school dinners. :confused3

That's what I love about it, Its so different from teh normal food places in Florida, plus the shop is great to mooch about in.

I do like the food, home spun type, no burgers :goodvibes

I know what you mean debs , we still have to visit every trip Obi is right , it has something appealing about it. :goodvibes

Cracker Barrel reminds me of Bob Evans restaurants. Does anyone remember the one that used to be at the Sea World end of I Drive, years ago? It had a 'country style' shop and very simple food.
There is still one on the 192, but its not a patch on what they used to be.

Yes I remember it well from the early nineties!

As a seasoned Florida traveller, I've eaten in virtually all of the places mentioned, including the upscale places, but I only have 2 'must do's':

Cheesecake Factory - the only place where I actually *want* a salad more than anything else on the menu; yummy.

One American breakfast - not buffet style preferably (although there are exceptions). Only one and could be Denny's (so long as not in a tourist area, ie I wouldn't use one on 192, Crossroads or IDrive), Bob Evans or Perkins.

Thanks for all those idea's. Some fab looking places there for us to try out. I wish I didn't have to wait so long.

True, think thats why we probably like this one, definately non tourist feel. Ive managed to get down to 2 wooden pegs left on the game they provide on each table!! Coca Cola cake for dessert is good too. A cup of tea can be moody, havnt quite got Tetley feel

think for us it has to be golden corral, denny's, and hard rock cafe.

hrc purely cos i collect the pins and it gives me an excuse to add some more to my collection - honest it is not because i like not only the food but also their cocktails too!!

First off shame on you all (or is it y'all) only one mention of Hooters - props to my man Tony!!

Like Hard Rock, a cool place to be maybe? Also, Margaritaville is superb. Other than that, a nice steakhouse is always top on my list - Ruth's Chris, Old Hickory, Shulas etc

Other than that as Deb said, anywhere nice - and naturally she picks 'em:thumbsup2

On the subject of Cracker-Barrel - not getting I'm afraid. If I want to eat meat. veg and gravy I'll stay at home:lmao: I need large chunks of meat not a quasi English roast:confused3

Matt we visit Cracker Barrel for the Shaker gift shop not the school dinners. :thumbsup2

You wont find a traditional english roast there and their gravy is white !! Generous servings of meat and choice, including a good steak, and you dont have to eat your veggies !! Hash browns and choice of sides:coffee:

Chilis for the Shanghai wings, also Bob Evans and Crackerbarrel.
