We're coming to WDW in December for DS 4th birthday - we will be there from around the 4th to the 10th.
SSR is our home - we haven't been there yet (May will be the first time).
Since I haven't even seen home let alone the other dvc's - I was wondering where you would chose to stay if you had 2 small children if you were going those dates - kids will be 4 and 2.
I figure that a pool may not be as much of an issue as it would be in say August.

Thanks

K

First of all Kez250, Welcome to the DIS.

December is a very popular time for DVC members because of the Holiday decorations and the low points.

We are travelling the same time as you are. I was advised to go ahead and make my reservations at my home resort (which is SSR). Then, if we would like to stay somewhere else, try booking at the 7 month window.

That way, if you cannot get the room you need at another resort, you will still have your reservation at SSR.

With little guys I would want to be close to the parks. I would book SSR and then try to get VWL,BWV,BCV. VWL and BCV may be tough since they are smaller resorts. I think you would like BWV and it's very close to Epcot and MGM. Plus the boardwalk always has something going on for kids to do/see. My kids loved it.

During the Christmas season, I always recommend the Epcot resorts. Epcot seems to be the most active park for the holidays-Holiday Storytellers, CP, special Illuminations Holiday Edition, etc. Also, you're close to MGM where you can see the Osborne Lights. Whether you stay at BWV or BCV depends on whether you like peacefulness (BCV) or being close to the action (BWV). I prefer BCV, mostly because of the theming. And the pool isn't an issue with me wither-I don't swim.

Hi,

I'd pick VWL!! Beautiful decorations & close to MK. Have fun!!

Book at SSR 11 months out and then try to book VWL at the 7 month window. We stayed at VWL this past Christmas/New Year's and kids loved it!
Great being so close to MK.

Well I took your advice and booked my home resort - so at least we have that - we're there in May just around the 7 month so hopefully we'll be able to check out the other DVC.

I have a ? regarding the 7 month deadline - is it better to call everyday and see if the room at yr chosen resort is available or is it better to wait until the end of your time and try and block book - I realise there is a risk with this - i.e. all or nothing but was wondering what the realistic chances are of the block book.

With 2 small ones I don't relish 2 days at one place and then having to move to another one for the rest of the time - once they're older i'm sure they'll find it fun trying 2 or 3 new places each visit - but now they're likely to think it means we're going home which will result in many tears and upsets until we move 1 mile down the road to the next place

Sorry for so many questions - just trying to get a feel for all this

Thanks

Generally, it's better to call day by day at the 7 month window if you want one of the smaller resorts - VWL, BCV or BWV. This is especially true for early December.

Now that said, I can sure understand your desire to call once and know that you will be in the same room for the entire visit. So my advice is to call for the first night as soon as you can. Ask MS what the availability looks like and then proceed according to the CMs advice. He/She will tell you if it's a good bet to wait or if you really need to call each day to ensure the reservation.

Best wishes -

KEZ250. The pools are great in December. Well heated.

BWV or BCV are the only way at Christmas time. Your kids will be up late and after watching the fireworks at EPCOT,and you really have to see them. Or after going to the Osborne Christmas lights at MGM,you just walk to your room or take the boat back. MK Mickeys Christmas Party, jump on the monarail to EPCOT and walk back to you resort. VWL,SSR,and OKW you have to deal with a bus ride or your own car and parking lots. Trust me. BWV is the way to go. If you can get a room. Good luck. It's the best time to go...... :cool1: :cool1:

Since EPCOT is closed by the time MVMCP is over, you can't take the monorail to EPCOT from the MK and walk back through the park to get to the EPCOT resorts. You'll need to drive to the MK or take the bus back to BWV after the party. We've not had any complaints about the bus service to the BWV after MVMCP.

I also think the BWV are the place to be during the Holiday season and that it is hard to get a room there anytime in December.

Hi Kez250,

Glad to see a fellow Houston DVC member.

We went last year (me, DW & DD4) during that time and stayed at SSR (our home resort) for our first trip home (second trip to WDW). We loved the resort, the pools were great and my wife really enjoyed the spa at SSR. DD and DW loved to go to the community hall, lots of activities for kids. If you dont get one of the other resorts, SSR is still a great place to stay.

Jim.
