Where has the Magic Gone??? Just back

Simple;

No bill = no payment. :teacher: Then see how fast they get you a bill!

I have never heard of any restaurant anywhere that did not or would not present a bill???

Most people that complain about ECV's and the mob of people jumping the line....are usually talking about the BUS LINE

Diseny's last big loop-hole, gets you...after you've waited 20 minutes for a bus, only to have a EVC with 8 people stroll up and fill the bus at the last minute, while you get to wait for another bus.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT MY ONLY BEEF IS ABOUT THE GROWING NUMBER OF WHEELCHAIRS/EVCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Especially when it's pouring, I've been out from 7:30 AM-10:00 PM, I have to carry my 5 year old sister in law, there's a hella long line just after Wishes! I just wish there was a way that EVERYONE had to wait in the queue.

But otherwise, I don't care. I know it takes longer to get set up for shows and stuff...

:goodvibes
To Clarify a few things...

1st. I was in NO WAY complaining about those who are wheelchair or ecv bound, or their wait or lack there of on rides....my complaint was allowing so many ppl on at one time with them. and just the general observation that on this trip, there were a lot more ecv's than seen on my previous trips...

2nd - as far as the Yak and Yeti thing....we were on the dining plan, when the bill came everything was zero'd out on the total side of the bill as it usually is, but there was not a bill that showed the actual total to base a tip from, since this year no tip is included on the DDP.

AGAIN....no problems with the ppl in the wc or ECV's....and No I would not want to trade places with them...

:hippie:

I didn't think that you were complaining about the people with the ECVs either. I understand that your complaint was about the large amounts of people that comes with those on the ECVs.

I think you're a little more civilized than that!:goodvibes

All I was saying was that I used it as an object lesson opportunity for my son.

I go a few times a month to visit the parks and not all my visits are magical. Sure you will have those grumpy (or any dwarf) CM's but that shouldn't stop you from having a magical moment.

As for the bill I would have made a scene and said excuse me since when does a restaurant not have a bill. I need it for my records and lets see how fast they drum one up. They I would write letter to corporate and let them know what type of restaurant they have in AK.

As for the ECV's I see they have grown in numbers but they are treated like us regular folks. They have to wait. I saw that this past weekend. I would go elsewhere if your not satisfied with WDW.

Judging from some of the conversations I have overheard in Disneyworld between nasty, rude people and a well intentioned cast member. I believe I would not be able to find much magic to spread after dealing with thousands and thousands of people every day for weeks, months, years. Twenty years ago I suspect they would get a cranky few every day but I would bet the farm that nowadays they put up with alot of crap. The culture has changed quite a bit in the last few years ... and respect and kindness is a little harder to come by. Although I have noticed that the cm's arent the way they were back when I first went, I can understand and even relate.

There are only a certain number of ECV's. My Mom needs one and the last four times we've been in the park we've learned if you don't get there by 9am they are all gone! I had to push her all over the World and in those times I really wished everything was FLAT! :scared:

Our daughter is in a power wheelchair. I personally *LOVE* that they allow our *entire* family to be with her. At Dollywood (for example) they only allow 2 people with the person in the wheelchair. Well, 3 kids and 2 adults in our immediate family. We also typically take my aunt so we have extra hands with the chair/service dog, people cutting in front of my daughter, etc. Our family is split for everything and I think that is *completely* unfair. No other families are split. It also makes my daughter worry about where daddy and her brother went, did they get to see too? It can ruin a trip.

Now, my husband made the comment at Disney the last time that he is going to teach our daughter to dispise all the "lazy people in scooters". Yes, I know MANY people do need scooters for many various issues, both seen and unseen. However, I do think the numbers are growing. Its pretty nutty. Not only the amt of people using them, and their inability to drive them properly. I can't tell you how many times my 4 yr old was almost hit by an adult in an ECV not paying attention.

So, while I do disagree with you in one aspect.... I do totally think that families should stay together. I do think scooters are totally overused at this point in time. I am not sure the reasons. Either A) more people are unhealthy or B) mabe more unhealthy people are feeling liberated enough to travel?

Yes, I know MANY people do need scooters for many various issues. I mean I would love to ride around on my lazy butt all day.... comeon people! GETUP AND WALK WHILE YOU STILL CAN.

Thinking about spreading the hate just makes me sad. :( How exactly do you know if someone is lazy and not really needing it? What makes the difference? Is it because someone can walk or transfer? How someone looks? Talks? What is it that makes it so different?

Hello Everyone.

Just back from a week Spur of the moment trip the the world.
Crowds were VERY light, walk on to almost everything, the only thing that had a wait the entire week was 30 minutes on saturday for EE.

Issues...
I know I will be flamed for this BUT....
I have seen more Electric wheel chairs in use this trip than at any time, which is fine for those who need them, but what I do not think is right, is moving to the front of the line and THEN letting 8 or 9 ppl who are with the one person skip the the front as well.
2nd - at Jak and Yeti - when we got the bill I asked the server for a total amount so I could know how much to tip him, he said " ah, well it was about a 130.00" There were 2 adults and one child no alcholic beverages the bill should have been between 70 to 80 bucks, I told him it was impossible the total was that much and I would like to see the bill, he then told me " sorry, we dont do that here" my wife not wanting me to make a scene still tipped him, I however would not have d/t the fact He was lying to me in order to recieve a larger tip.
3rd. the CM's while not rude by any means, did not seem to have the happy attitude as they have always had on past trips, it was like they were just going throught the motions.

I dont know... I just did not have the excitement and fun that we have always had on each and every trip, even my dd6 told me, and I NEVER thought i would hear it come from her, that she wanted to go to universal for our next trip.... :confused3

Sorry for the Rant

Charles

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with ranting but the only real problem you had was with the receipt. As stated before, you are absolutely wrong about etv users getting to the front of the line. My girlfriend was using one, because of a fall that she took late in the summer breaking a hip bone, and never once did it offer any quicker access then otherwise would have happened.

Sometimes over exposure can created a loss of the Magic. I noticed things this trip that I had not noticed in the past. Many people smoking outside of the designated areas and no one seemed to care, dozens of kids with "heelies" rolling around the place and no one seemed to care. I was tripped by someone with a drag behind cooler and no one seemed to care. I even saw one person with an actual large suitcase on wheels in MK. What causes the Magic to leave for me is when rules are not enforced causing problems for others.

My daughter bought a Mickey Bar and when she opened it the stick just came out of the Ice Cream. She was still standing in front of the kiosk and when she asked for another she was told that it had been opened so she couldn't exchange it. What? I wasn't frozen into the Ice Cream and yet it was not replaceable because the package had been opened. If it wasn't opened she wouldn't have known it was detached. Just bad show, plain and simple.

At one point I was with my family waiting in line for Soarin, there was one family in front of us and it looked like we were going to get lucky and get a front row. The CM was approached by the family in front of us and they said that they had some friends back about 50 feet in line and wanted them to join them. Know what? The CM told them that they could hold the place for their friends thus making us be in the second row. I was not happy so when we got to the point of placement we were told that we were in the second row and I simply said, no...I was in line before those others and I wanted a front row. I know that sounds unreasonable, but, I enjoy that ride so much more without the feet dangling in front of me. They put us in the first row of the next "Q" which was OK with me. I just couldn't believe that the CM was orchestrating line cutting.

Sometimes its the little things that make the difference. WDW was not at it's best last week.

Wow!
I am not sure what you mean by "unhealthy", so I am going to try and leave that alone.
WDW was intended for everyone to enjoy. As our population ages (and people are living longer) more people are using ECV's-makes sense.
Disney limits the number of people that can accompany a wheelchair/ecv in rides and shows. In shows there are only so many spaces for ecv's and the benches for the ECV's familys are limited to provide equal access to everyone.

It's been so long since I've posted I have to clear cobwebs...
I've not admitted this to ANYONE but now am doing so to the entire webworld...
I never thought I'd lose any magic, and I have to say I DIDN"T lose it all, but it was reduced the last time I went. I mentally blamed the ages of my kids (who were preteens/teens instead of all under 12 as the first time).

I guess you have good trips and better trips.
But I still would love to go back.. It may be a very long time until I can go again. sigh.

focus on the positive.

I have no problem with ecv or wheelchair use.I do think the people that drive on some of these ecv's, need to be aware of their surroundings.I had one woman basically smack into the back of me at full speed at a local theme park...no sorry, excuse me ,it was an accident.I was told to move because she needed to get thru and move it or lose it.I also saw an older man at disney plow thru a crowd after the fireworks and ran over someones foot...why?People were yelling slow down and he kept going( think moses parting the red sea only not so nice and a lot more painful). That is my beef....:goodvibes

Ahhhh....but a rude person is just that...rude.

I highly doubt they would be any less pushy on their own feet.:headache:

As far as the other poster (not the OP) witching about so many people being lazy and on scooters, well, maybe a handful are. But I've only talked with those that are grateful that in spite of their disabilities (whether YOU would consider them disabilities) that they are able to travel. This includes people with MS, Fibro, surgeries, breathing issues, chemo recovery, age, etc. As my mom has been in one we have had such lovely conversations with others in the same boat.

Teaching a child to hate is more screwed up than I can imagine. :sad2:

This seems to be a case of "in the eye of the beholder." The people in front of you, who wanted to experience the ride with their friends, probably think that CM was the best ever, for allowing their friends to come up and join them. You, on the other hand, think the CM was instituting line cutting and wasn't doing the job right. And then the people behind you who were thinking they'd get lucky and get the front row in the next ride vehicle didn't because you did, so maybe it spoiled it for them. And it all trickled down from there. And the CM? Probably just trying to make a guest happy.

:earsboy:

Oh absolutley..I am so happy I can walk, and my dh and dd can walk and are relatively healthy .Personally, I don't care who uses an ecv and who doesn't.Just be careful and mindful on them.that is my only beef about ecv use.I know it isn't easy to navigate threw big crowds with a stroller so an ecv must be tougher..just don't use them as battering rams I say and all will be well.Ps..the back of my legs were a lovely shade a purple for 2 weeks:rotfl:

Hello Everyone.

I NEVER thought i would hear it come from her, that she wanted to go to universal for our next trip.... :confused3

Sorry for the Rant

Charles

You'll LOVE Universal. The staff at the parks go out of their way to help you and they are super friendly. Honestly, I think the magic has moved from WDW to Universal. Be sure to stay in an onsite hotel for the FOTL-no fast passes necessary, show your room key and you get in a special line-most waits are less than 5 minutes if there's a wait at all.

So am I to understand that those who are doing a grand gathering cannot ride together because there are two many people in our group. Or maybe what the person means is that its okay for a couple of people to go with the person in the wheelchair or ECV but they need to split from the rest of the group and hope they manage to find each other again when they all exit the attraction. Are we no longer allowed to travel with our families. Last time I was at Disney there were 8 of us. Me, my DH, DD9, DS 17, DS 19, my inlaws one of which needed the evc because of a heart condition. and my DH nephew. The only time we really got in early was to shows and then the wheelchair/evc spots are in the back of the theater. There are so many other obstacles to overcome without worrying about what others persieve. Also there may have been more wheelchairs/evc on this trip but as the babyboomers age so does our population. I am also sure that you did not mean to stir up such a hornets nest but this is a toutchy subject for many people. In the future please think of the possabilities before making any assumptions and remember it could be you or one of your loved ones in that situation some day. I am truley sorry if I have offended anyone with my post and hope that I have not said to much, I felt though as it seems others have that I just had to have my say.

I agree that I have seen massive groups get to the front of the line because of one person in a ECV. Now, I have nothing against them, but I do not believe that the person in the ECV is the free ticket (or in a sense, a fastpass) for the rest of the family. I believe that everyone should wait in line. Of course, the ECVs may not be able to fit in line and therefore need to wait ahead of the line, but why can't the family of that person wait in line and when they have reached the loading dock, they are joined by the person in the ECV? Wouldn't this be fair to all? My grandma uses an ECV at times and will not cut the line because of it. She does not feel it is right. I just think that this past courtesy of Disney has been abused and now people are starting to notice the abuse of it and becoming agitated.

I just want to mention.... My husband didn't "spout off" in front of our daughter. It was his way of expressing his frustration to ME, after her very ery pricey power chair was rammed again by an ECV, while she was parked with her chair off watching some ducks. Was his comment appropriate? Probably not, but he has every right to express his frustration when his baby is getting hit by adults what by all accounts should be able to drive much more safely than a 4 yr old!

As for "unhealthy" it wasn' exactly what I meant. It was a momma fried brain lacking words. I *mean* that many people with dif-abilities do need EVCs, but lots of people using them don't. For example: We were entering Epcot on our first day and my daughter needed to potty and my husband headed for guest services. There was a family of 4 trying to rent an EVC. They were out (suprise suprise). They offered a wheelchair. The family declined and the mom spouted off "I guess I will just have to *walk* today (enter big sigh). I sure DON'T need a WHEELCHAIR". Ummmmm...... if she could walk why did she need the EVC anyway??? If you *need, truely need* an EVC and one is not available, wouldn't this mean you need a wheelchair?! Oh well instead I will just have to walk *sigh*. This is the type senario that is frustrating. That woman would have been one running over my daughter speeding through Epcot like she was on a go kart!
