Inspired by maureen's thread and her friend who holidays in Wales:

Where else [if anywhere] do you peeps go on holiday? Since we returned from our first family trip in Oct, not a day has gone past where one of us has not mentioned something to do with the Florida experience.

We'd obviously love to return and probably will in a couple of years, but for our next trip, what could we do that is: 1-Cheaper; 2-Not so far away; 3-Full of fun; 4-Warm in Oct??? Does such a place exist? [I suppose the answer is no, but no harm in asking eh]

There are many other places we would love to go, top of the list is New York.

Would also like to go to Austria, especially Salzburg and Switzerland too , Venice/Vienna/Milan/Barcelona also appeal....just do not think Joshua would get anything out of it so Florida (not just Orlando) is still tops for us. Plus we like to have a few weeks of really nice weather.
You cannot beat not having to wear jeans and coats whilst on holiday so the climate as well as the attractions and shopping etc means we have no plans to go anywhere else just yet.

We would almost feel we were being unfair in Josh, he just loves Orlando and for the whole package (whilst expensive) it cannot be beat.

Warm in October and not so far away I suppose would be anywhere around the Mediterranean (although i don't know how cheap that is).

this year we are going to rhodes, greece. as well as florida

Its a nice relaxing break before a hectic trip to florida, we are only going for a week to rhodes though as chris cant get any more time off.

I'm very fond of the Italian Lakes, Garda in particular. It has very beautiful resorts, is warm in the evenings in summer (October, though is 'iffy' for evenings!) BUT, staying in a good 4 or 5 star hotel is most definitely not cheap. I like Switzerland too, and the same applies.

Your criteria may be possible in Spain I guess, but the 'full of fun' bit defeats me :) Guess I'll just keep booking Florida too then ;)

Lanzarote is nice and warm in October, but it is more of a beach holiday. We find a week in Lanzarote at that time of year fab for some last minute sun before winter.

Claire ;)

Cheap and warm in october? the red sea, better class of hotel for your money than in the canaries and the sea will definately be swimmable.

A few places I shall hopefully be trying in the near future are: Egypt, Thailand, Namibia, Mozambique and more of the caribbean

Just moving this over to the Community Board :teeth:

In between our WDW holidays we have been to Lake Garda, beautiful area with some fantastic restaurants, Turkey, again beautiful country with lots of interesting history and finally, Dominican Republic, we stayed in the North which I believe is not as pretty as the South but we enjoyed it. Both Turkey and DR we stayed all inclusive although far from cheap, worked out much better value for us.

We also love the South of France and the Dordogne where the food is the best we’ve ever eaten anywhere!.

We like the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. The Caribbean can be done quite reasonably but it would only be *** - don't know if that's an ok standard for you - but of course October is still hurricane season so you take your chance.

DF HATES Florida, so I usually go with my mum which means that we haven't been away together as a couple for a holiday for two years. We've done city breaks but that really isn't the same.

This year we are going to USA - San Francisico, New York, Las Vegas and Hawaii. He doesn't have a problem with the US that Disney, strange boy :confused3

how long are you going for? that's a lot of ground to cover....just the flying alone will take a lot of time (especially to hawaii)...

I love 3 of the 4 places you list and there is tons of stuff to do in each one...

where are you going in Hawaii? (which island?)

Just a little bit!

Have been to a few African countries, India, some caribbean islands and of course USA, and Canada and a lot of the med.
Need to take DS (10) to a few further-flung places.

Since being together, DH and I have been to Jersey, New York, Kos, DLP, Orlando, and then some places in the UK.

We prefer (at the moment) doing more city holidays than beach so we can go out and explore (via - the pubs!!), although Kos for 2 weeks was wonderful.
We did nothing for 2 weeks except put on loads of weight by eating and drinking far too much! :rotfl2:

I think Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote etc are supposed to be lovely in October.
Nice and sunny and warm!

Thanks for the replies so far. :thumbsup2

I can see the appeal of many of your suggestions, however I suppose you could say we're shallow when it come to holidays - local history, castles and museums don't do it for us. The more we talk about this, the more we feel we need theme parks.

I've looked at Tenerife, etc and nice as they sound, I'm not sure there's enough to do. Mainland Spain of course, has Port Aventura near Barcelona and Terra Mitica [anyone experienced these?] further south, but the weather's not so good in Oct...traditionally mid 60s.

We're going to have to sacrifice one of our holiday conditions I think. Maybe organise a holiday around DLP perhaps, although TBH, France has never appealed to me.

Decisions, decisions...

How about a 2 center france theme park break with Parc Asterix followed by DLP?

We`re struggling with this one as well! I`ve promised DH we won`t return to WDW this year ( but in the back of my mind I`m thinking Sept :teeth: )
I think we`ll visit Austria or the Italian Lakes in June and apart from that inspiration is lacking.
Can anyone recommend a Greek resort - for DD and her BF both 18, they want a holiday after their A levels this summer but want somewhere quiet?
