Where Does Your Pet's Name Come From?

Let's see...

Maximillian Littlefoot (after Max-Goofy's son :D Littlefoot is the dinosaur in Land Before Time). The vet said when he is FULLY grown he should hit 25-30 pounds

PepperAnne aka Peppy or Pepula-the cartoon PepperAnne

Milo aka Ms Milo aka Missy/MissyGirl after the cartoon PepperAnne (Milo is PA's buddy)... we thought MsMilo was a MrMilo when she was teeny tiny. She isn't so teeny anymore.

All 3 are litter mates and look nothing alike. Max is a seal point siamese, Milo is a tortie siamese and Pepper is a tortie.

Milo was the "ugly baby" and no one paid as much attention to her as Max and Peppy... Go figure she is the sweetest, most loving "I need attention NOW" kinda cat.

Max is a fraidy cat which is funny seeing his size... :p but he is also the biggest baby....

Pepper is the least friendly of the 3. She isn't mean but you can't just go up and pet her easily. She has to come to you. I have NO idea why.

We have a rabbit named Blitzen. He "appeared" at our home Christmas morning 2 years ago. Santa made a special delivery.

Mystic Mountain Shadow is named after the cream colored bears on an island in the pacific northwest . When he was little (24lbs at 6 weeks old:rolleyes: ) he looked just like a little bear cub. Now he goes 147 lbs or so.

China Cat Sunflower (Cat) - Grateful Dead song - We call her China

Bobby McGee (Dog) - After the Janis Joplin song - We call him McGee

Jelly Bean - Neice of a cat my dad has and all my family's cats have names with a BEAN in the name. Her aunt is Frannie Bean...there is also Sammie Bean, Mr. Bean, Green Bean, & Coffee Bean...don't ask. :) - We call her Jelly or Pain in the Rumpkus

Lilo - From Lilo & Stitch :) - We call her Lilo

Can you guess which pets were acquired before I had kids and which pets were acquired after? ;)

To elaborate, what names have you given all of your pets? I think the ones that we come up with when we are young, or that our kids come up with are so cute:

Here is my list:
Dogs:
Misty--- that was my first dog--- I think I named her after the horse, in the book Misty of Chincoteague.
Strotz--- yes, after the beer... my brother named her
Bishop--- abandoned at my brother's college... named after their mascot
Sam--- actually my parent's current dog... my dad named him Sam after the Dr Suess book, Sam, I Am.

Cats:
Crystal and Chyna-- 2 black cats that died young. They were sisters
Amber-- she was a goldish/red tabby, hence, the name
Hobbes-- after the cat in Calvin and Hobbes. When I would come home from work, she would come running and pounce me when I came in the door
Tigger--- grey stripped tabby... no real reason for the name, except love of Disney and nothing better came up.
Rabbit-- this cat's coat was pure white and had the texture of a white Easter rabbit
Kowo--- named by our daughter... I guess it was her word for cat. Died young.
Harley--- tough name for 4th black cat to hopefully prevent her the fate of our other 3 black cats. Named after Harley Cooper on Guiding Light.
Mollie- originally named Millie by previous owner, but we didn't like the name.

My albino goldfish is named AP for Albino Pudge as Im a huge Lilo fan and wanted to name him Pudge but being white it didnt fit so Albino Pudge :)

I adopted my cat and she already had the name Ally so I kept it, did not want to confuse her, I like it but my son really wanted to name her confette (sp) :D

My youngest DS named our oldest cat Kelly.......just 'cause.:D

Tiger was named Tiger because of his stripes even tho I think he looks more like a little lion!

Our newest kitty is Kippy. My middle DS named her that.....not sure why! It really fits her, tho.:D

Silky Terrier named Shadow........the kids picked the name before we even brought him home. He lives up to his name, though---he follows ME around constantly. I am his "person" and he really is my shadow.:p

My brother (who now lives exclusively in London -- big hint!) named the cats Fergie and Diana before he gave them to me.

I named my mom's cats Shayna (Yiddish for "Pretty") and Maidel (Yiddish for "Girl").

I can't figure out why my family just can't name our own pets.

I named my oldest cat Bethany because I just liked the name and wanted to give her a people name.

My other two cats are litter mates. I knew I wanted to name the male Timothy - I always thought that was a good cat name. Then I needed to think of something to go with Bethany and Timothy. I chose Tabitha for Tim's sister, just because I thought it flowed together well.

So now I have Bethany, Timothy and Tabitha. It IS a mouthful when all three of them go to the vet though!

Bethany is the most grumpy. Timothy loves to be outdoors the most and is the most cuddly. He lets me hug him all the time and smother him with kisses while the girls won't have much of that. But Tabitha constantly needs attention and is insatiable! I can't do ANYTHING without her being right there!

They add so much to my life though and I can't imagine life without them.

I have two cats:

Disney received his name for my love of Disney of course!!

Jazmine received her name for DH's love of music...we call her Jaz for short!

We just got a new puppy. Being the Disney loers that we are, we named him KODA. KO DA

Okay here is my list of "furry family members"

Tigger-male black and white cat who as a kitten "bounced" everywhere he went instead of walking.

Hamlet Big male German Shepherd 6 years old that was already named when I got him from a rescue group.

HoneyBear Another very large male German Shepherd 4 years old who is a big gentle giant that looks like a bear but is as sweet as honey.

JerryLee Another male German Shepherd that is barely a year old that I named after another German Shepherd in the movie "K-9". He is very sweet--not at all like the movie dog that had major attitude!! lol

It sometimes gets crazy around our house but we wouldn't want it any other way. Thinking of adopting getting anotehr kitten and if we do I will name him or her after my favorite character on Angel!!!

When we got our doberman, my daughter wanted to name her "Sable" - my boyfriend (an "Archie Bunker" type) said "I've never heard of naming a dog STABLE!" She said, "No, not Stable, call her SABLE". "Nope, I'm going to call her Terra". My daughter shook her head and said "Like in Tara?"

"No, like Terra.....as in a holy terra." (i.e., terror).

Boy, has she lived up to her name!

Our Curly haired 85 lb. Black Lab/German Shepard is named Precious. She was a very cute puppy and got her name on the way home in the car. She grew up but shes still precious to us and a GREAT guarddog. She came along before the Disney craze.

We have had a black hamster named Mickey (after the mouse)
and a gray one named Donald (after the duck)

We have a gray and white dwarf rabbit named Oswald (the lucky rabbit). Diehard DISers know who Im talking about.

We have a parakeet named Fritz (mine goodneesh youre all staaring at us we better sthart the show rolling)

And lastly we have a cockatiel named Zazu (he gives the morning report)

YES we have it bad, but it feels so good!!

Our dog Cheyenne was born in Wyoming County, so we named her after a city in the state of Wyoming.

Our cat's name is Chester. DD named him after a cat character in the "Bunnicula" series of books.

I didn't even figure out that they were both "Che" beginning names until about 2 years later.

At home we have 2 siamese kitties at home.
We named one Pyewacket from the movie Bell, Book and Candle, with Jimmy Stewart, Jack Lemon and a cat who is a familiar to witch Kim K. Great "oldie movie".
The second was named Peaches 'cause it just went good with Pyewacket.

At the bookstore, kitty got her name Harlequin because the day I bought her here as a stray a lady was standing in the Harlequin aisle and said "How about Harlequin?" It stuck.

We have the jewel theme...
White German Shepherd = Opal
Red (and black) German Shepherd = Ruby

DH drew the line when we got the third German Shepherd (black with red) and wouldn't let me name her Onyx. "I'm not buying you any more jewelry from the dogs!" he said. (I have a lovely opal and ruby ring from "the girls" that I received last Christmas.) Her name is Maya - just because we liked it.

Our Maine Coon is a crazy, goofy, unique kitty. We named her "Abby-Normal" (a quote from "Young Frankenstein"), but just call her Abby (most of the time).
