where does USAir fly cheap???

I have credit for USAirways (awful airline!!!) that I need to use by mid-August and not much $$ to spend on a vacation. Every airport/date I put in will still COST me money to use the darn credits! I hate the thought of eating good money I paid for tickets, but what are my other options?

Anyone know if there is a particular airport that is cheaper to fly into with USAir? We are leaving from Hartford, Ct. Or I suppose we could go the Albany route if that was cheaper. And honestly, I don't really care too much where we go. We don't have the funds for WDW, so I was looking for an airport near stuff that would be free (or almost free!) to do, and maybe public transportation.

Flights out of Pittsburg are pretty cheap. $100 less per person for us to fly out of PIT than CLE airport in April

We each have $300 credit. You have to pay $150 pp to use the credit, so I was hoping rotfl2 to find flights for $150-$200 so I didn't really have to kick in a lot of $$.

Just found $184 to ........ Pittsburgh! My DH replies with "What the heck is there in Pittsburgh??". Guess I'll keep looking! LOL!

Lots to do in Pittsburgh. Maybe your husband should do some research.

Not knocking Pittsburgh! I did a quick google on free stuff to do and it was mostly art museums and the McD's one. I just have NO idea what there would be there other than steel mills and the Steelers. I was hoping to score a beach with a KOA cabin or something, not really gonna happen, but that was my dream and I just envisioned Pittsburgh as....huh????? I was just clueless! Anywho, just wanted to be sure I wasn't offending! All the USA is awesome and I would like to see a place I've never been, just would like to have SOME inclination of what there is there! So.....sell me on it!

I wouldn't take DC completely off. It all depends on timing.

we went over Memorial Day weekend last year. the marriott in crystal city was 99.00 a night, free breakfast and free shuttle from the airport.

Weekends are cheaper.

As for food, there are tons of restaurants...you don't have to eat expensive meals if you don't want to.

There is the Pittsburgh Zoo, Natural History Museum, Science Center, you could get cheap tickets to a Pirates game. Lake Erie is also about a 1 1/2 - 2 hour drive and has a great beach.

What about Ft. Lauderdale, FL? Usually airports that have a lot of competition have the best fares. That's all I can think of offhand.

Also try to fly on off peak days/hours. That should help keep the prices down.

I don't know how it is from your airport but I was pricing W. Palm Beach for a friend, looking at several airlines, and USAirways was cheapest at $113 each way. This was from Philly so may be different from your area. Just an idea.

Don't quote me as I don't fly USAirways that often, but I don't think that's how it works for them (unless it's changed recently). The change fee is a flat-out new fee; it's not deducted from the ticket value. You'll need to pay $300 out of pocket (new money) plus any fare difference greater than the $300/ticket. If the new ticket is cheaper, there's no refund. There's nothing to keep you from looking for fares up to $300. Again, verify with the airline.

Highly doubful -- as fuel prices, in general, are still rising, the recent wave of consolidation has left us with this handful of domestic airlines as our "Big 4":

• Delta (from the pairing of Delta/Nothwest)
• United (from the recent marriage between United/Continental)
• Southwest (a merger "still in progress" between Southwest/AirTran)
• American (from yesterday's match-up between AA/US Airways)

Experts say with so few "legacy" carriers remaining, they can pretty much do what they want, until a new (and serious) competitor comes-along to shake things up...

So you don't have $$ to take a vacation, but you are OK spending the money just to use the tickets? Just wanted to make sure I understand the full details.

I know I would hate to waste the credits as well, but if I was not in a position to take a vacation I would probably just let the credits expire. I know it is a tough decision, but why spend money (hotel, food, etc...) to go somewhere you don't want to go just to use up the credits. That's the whole spending good money after bad argument. Just a thought. I think I would save the additional costs and use it for something I enjoyed or needed.

With that said, if you decide to travel.....Have a great time! DC has all the museums if you can get the flights, but the hotels are pretty expensive.

Well, that is why I was looking for somewhere very cheap to go! Camping is pretty dang inexpensive, or staying with friends or relatives is free. I was just wondering if people knew of particular cities that were cheaper to fly to than others instead of me plugging in every relatives airport. I am fine with letting the credits expire, USAir just burns my biscuits with their policies!
