Where does CRO/MS "find" rooms?

Last year, when I booked Beach Club through CRO, we couldn't get one of our days. So, I kept calling back. Then I got a really nice, helpful CM who said that night wasn't available...then said "hold on...let me check something"...and got us our last night.

Last week, when I called MS, I could only get one of the 7 nights we want--the second to last night. I didn't take it, but then called back to book it. I mentioned I had called before and that one night was available, and she said, "you called today?" ("yes") and then said, "let me check something" and got us the last night. (So now we have 2 of 7 nights, but I'm thrilled at least that they're in a row, and not in the middle--less moving around, if it works out that way.)

So, where do they dig these nights up?? Doesn't it seem like either it's available or it isn't?? Now it really makes me wonder when something "isn't available", although I was certainly very happy in both cases that it turned out that way.

From the breakage inventory (units not reserved at 2 months out), points still owned by DVC, points given up by members for things like II exchanges, DCL, CC, etc and from unsold inventory at actively selling resorts. Who gets the money depends on who owns the unit. That's why the resort may be full on points and there are still rooms available when you call CRO. No sense anyone getting upset on this one.

...and for the non-DVC resorts, CRO can sometimes "find" rooms which may have been blocked out for a convention (and not needed) or held by a travel agency. There are several sources they have to "find" rooms at times. Some CM's aren't willing to check and just say "Nothing available" and others are more motivated to assist guests. This is true at CRO and at MS. Enjoy!

I agree with most of Dean's list -- but not the part about II (Interval International) exchanges.

It's my understanding that when a DVC member exchanges into a week at an II timeshare resort, DVC provides a comparable DVC week to II, using the member's points to pay for the DVC week. (That's what determines the number of points needed for the exchange.) Then II provides the week to a lucky II member who has deposited a week into II and requested an exchange into a DVC resort. I don't see how points given up by DVC members for II exchanges would result in rooms being available to CRO or MS.

I would add to Dean's list that another source is the Magical Beginings program, where DVC buys back points from new members, and Disney recovers the money by renting the corresponding rooms through CRO.

As to the question of why rooms suddenly become available or are "found" by MS or CRO, I can only guess that cancellations can cause rooms to become available at any time.

Werner's right, those II rooms are rented but ti's still a room not available to a memb, my slip. The MB is a question, I suspect they eat that in one way or another. Since they're actually selling points for time that has past, they must have some way to even it out. I suspect that the MB and excess declared inventory are the methods they use to do this.

Actually, they have until the next use year begins to use those MB points. The time has not really passed- this is one reason why there is a limit on how far ahead MB points are allowed on a purchase. (If you have a Mar- use year, they won't let you use MB for an add on right now (using 2000 points) since they can't use those points either.)
