Hi, just wondering where your pets stay when you're away.

We are all going away together for the first time this summer (3 generations), and have had to find accomodation for our 2 dogs and rabbit.

We didn't want to leave our Old English sheepdogs in kennels, as the ***** is very timid, so we found a company called 'Barking Mad', who find a 'home from home' with a foster family! They find a family who will look after the dogs like we do, ie. going for walks, let them in the bedroom etc.. They have already been for two 'long weekends' to see if they fit in ok, and are now quite settled with their foster family! So at least we can go away with peace of mind!

Poor little Smudge, the rabbit will miss hiss canine friends, and is going to stay with our DD's boyfriend's family.

Sorry about that ***** means canine female (forgot it was a swear word!)

When we went to California this Easter our then 6 month old Labrador Roxy went to stay with my brother for the 2.5 weeks. At Xmas when we go away, they're not able to have her (dog hating visitors!) so I'm in a right old flap about what to do with her.

Is the company you are using a national company? Would it be possible to have some info/website/phone no etc?

Also go to think about when we hit Florida for 3 weeks next year, that's gonna be a real problem, wouldn't expect my brother and his family to have her for three weeks, 2.5 nearly finished them off!

Hi Annie, this is the website, hope there's a branch near you!

It's so hard to leave them, but if you know they are being looked after ok, it puts your mind at ease! Your puppy sounds lovely!!

My little dog always goes to the kennels and absoluty loves it,we have been using the same ones now for over 10 years, he is a small miniture yorkie and because he is so small, he always has his own run, but they put him in the cats enclosure as he is not keen on the big dogs, he thinks he rules the place in with the cats. ;)

On the way there he always knows when we are approching the place as he starts bounding around and yapping, I hand him over, small tear in my eye and I dont get a backward glance from him, he leds the way with the dog handlers to his favorite kennel.

When I go and pick him up after 2 weeks, does he come running to mummys open arms and smoother me with kisses....does he eck, he sits on the steps on the office and refuses point blank to move :lmao: I have to bribe him back in the car with a chewy treat to get him back home. :lmao:

Im sure he loves me really :rotfl2:

Hi I have 3 border collies. I dont like kennels as the older one (13) gets stressed out and I hate having to give them the kennel cough vaccine . They get very distressed about it.

We are lucky to have someone (a friend) come and live in our home for 2 weeks. We pay them but it is 1/2 the price of kennels and the dogs are happy !

Our cats will be going into a cattery. They went at xmas for a few days and loved it!

It is run by a retired couple with only 6 pens. Each pen is massive with heated beds! Fred & Mary can go in one together. They couple spend hours playing with the cats and they love been pampered!

Sounds just like my two shelties! :rotfl:

We have a lovely kennels that we always use and invariably when we turn up to collect them they are sat on one of the staff's knee being cuddled! ;) I can remember the first time we put our first dog who has now gone to Rainbow Bridge into kennels, I was so worried but it was all for nothing as she absolutely loved it there. :goodvibes

And now when we get our cases down from the roof our dogs get so excited as they realise they are soon off on their hols :dogdance: :dogdance:

What beautiful dogs you have Helen. :goodvibes

Its a long and boring story but my mother and myself ended up buying a house together, my father moved in until he died a while ago. So when either one of us goes on holiday the other stays at home to look after the pets so its all things normal for them.

We have 2 cats and 3 bunnies (the bunnies live in a huge run outside where they can burrow but not escape as it is surrounded by chicken wire!). When we go away our nextdoor neighbour or one of our friends look after our pets for us. The cats can come and go as they please as there is a cat flap for them into the house. The neighbours pop over twice a day to feed them all, water the plants etc. We love this arrangement as the bunnies would get too stressed being moved out of their run and the cats wouldn't like being confined in a cattery too much (they are used to the huge field we have next to our house.)

We have someone come and baby sit both the house and the animals.

They are happy, as they can be content in their own familiar surroundings and the house is safe as well.

We don't have any pets When my friend goes away on holiday, which she does several times a year we babysit her dog. Works out well though because she takes us to and from the airport when we go away :thumbsup2

Our furries stay home ... my parents live next door so we have a great sitter! :sunny:

We have a cat, a hamster and a fish and my parents come everyday to feed them amd make sure they are OK, they only live 5 mins away. :)

My Mother and Father usually collect our two dogs and take them back to Cambridge or look after our house with them whilst we are away. If it's inconvenient then we have friends with dogs nearby who offer to take care of them, and they have 25 acres so the dogs basically get a holiday too!

We have a 9 year old border collie who has always preferred being in kennels to being at home................... ;)

Basically 'kennels' are in the middle of 'sheep country' so he's in his element. Home is in the town and he always tries to make a dash for the park........... :goodvibes

My cats, Sacha and Tinkerbell go to stay at my mum's house. the worst bit is getting them there because Sacha doesn't travel well. He doesn't get to the top of the raod sometimes without having an accident :sad2:

However, once they get there they love it. My mum spoils them rotten. We are both veggies so there's never any treats to be had from our fridge but mum's is always stocked full of nice things for cats. Every time she goes into the kitched Sacha follows her and sits by the fridge hinting :rotfl2:

Our cats stay at home, either my Mother-In-Law comes and stops here or our neighbours come into feed them. My cat, Erik, is 12 and we've had him longer than we've had kids. I couln't bear to put him ina cattery as he's too timid. Personally speaking, if we could only go on holiday by putting our cats in a cattery I wouldn't go. I'd rather stay at home with them.

Popping this across to Community as it's not specifically Florida related :)
