Where do you volunteer and how did you choose this activity?

I currently sing in the church choir and work every week in the infant nursery there. In the past, I've been a cub scout and girl scout leader.

I sing because I love it.

I work in the nursery to get my baby fix!

And I did the scout leader thing because I believed in building young kids lives! Now that my kids have dropped out, I do miss that feeling I get from seeing kids change for the better.

I voulnteer at my church's Parish Nurse office. My late DMIL was the coordinator and she told me I had to be a Parish Nurse basically. When she died, they all assumed I wuld be the coordinator, so I am. It's not a real lot of work though, so it's not niggie.

I am also a volunteer for the ADA Walf for Diabetes planning committe, which plans our local annual Diabetes Walk fundraiser. I aslo got on that because of my late DMIL. My late DFIL was diabetic, she got involved through their docotr, and told DH and I we had to be onvolved. DH has since been diagnosed diabetic, so now I feel it's important to support the cause because they do a lot of research as to how to end diabetes.

Diabetes is not a real well-supported disease in general. It's not as dramatic as cancer or AIDs, insofar as you don't see young vibrant people being cut down in their prime with diabetes usually, like you do with those others I mentioned. Diabetes tends to be chronic, with the effects usually not being seen until someone is older. When you tell someone they are diabetic and that if they don't do certain things, they will have many complications when they get into their 60's and 70's, they tend to say "Well, I'll worry about it then".

I volunteer at church in the toddler nursery, sorry I am definetely out of that baby stage. I am on a list to cook meals for sick and those who have had surgery when needed, I also am the secretary for the school council.

At one ds school I volunteer alot. Lately I co chaired the tag sale and the childrens christmas store. I guess I will be involved in the next tag sale in april.

At the other 2 ds school they have just asked me to be on a committee to review questionairres about why people left the school. Its a private school and they are trying to get some kind of special accredidation. I did something like this at the other ds school , but we asked a survey of parents who were still there. Most likely people wont be saying why they left, its just so after the fact. So that will be twice a month from now to june.

And I guess whatever else comes along.
