Where do you store your cereal?

We have a cereal cabinet, which always ends up with about 10 boxes of cereal open at once. The problem is that they don't move the boxes around to see what is open. We had 3 boxes of the same kind of cereal open at once recently and some were stale because they didn't close the bag inside the box!

My dh buy tons of cereal and I can't stand to have more than two boxes open at a time for the same reason. A couple of years ago I bought two of these containers from bed bath and beyond some boxes don't completely fit they use what's in the cereal box first and then use this afterwards.

Maybe you could try using this or something similar and still have your cereal cabinet but they have to eat what's in the container not get another box.

As soon as we come home from food shopping, I take out the cereal out of the boxes and put them in either tupperware or zip locks and store in my pantry.

Do you have somewhere else you can store unopened boxes?

Ditto this idea. We don't do this right now because we only eat one type of cereal (and buy in bulk at Costco). My friend's parents did this when they were younger- they had tupperware containers for all of the different kinds of cereal the family ate. I'd do this if we were buying a few different varieties.

We have (3) tupperware cereal containers and I try not to have more then 3 boxes open at once. I also store unopened boxes in a completely different place so as not to confuse.

We have a rule of no more than 2 boxes open at a time. We also use clips to makes sure the bags stay closed.

I only buy two boxes of cereal, so we don't have a problem there. Dh likes Raisin Bran Crunch, and dd and I eat Frosted Flakes. I don't buy a new box until one of us is out of the old one. We aren't really cereal people though, it's mostly used as an evening snack instead of breakfast!

I have our cereal shelf positioned so that the boxes fit, laying on the narrow sides, with the box tops facing out, like books on a shelf. That way I can fit a lot of boxes on the shelf at one time (we usually have 6 or 7 open boxes), it's easy to see exactly what's there, and it's very easy to slide out one box and then put it right back, without disturbing the other boxes or having to dig around looking.

I usually monitor the cereal, with no full time kids in the house it's mostly just the three adults and we eat different cereals though we will eat each others as well, but I tend to keep up with them as I do the shopping and if it's been open too long I toss it. However we tend to only have one or two boxes at a time, usually cheerios and honey nut chex, and we go through it at a reasonable rate.

If the twins are around they either eat what we have (they like the two above), or I buy them something they like that I or their grandmother will eat as well, like frosted flakes, apple jacks, captain crunch, rice crispies, (you know breakfast candy LOL) so that we don't have a half eaten box of cereal hanging around.

We have the unopened boxes on a top shelf. Mak es them harder to reach but not impossible. The opened boxes are usually emptied into Tupperware containers that are kept on the second shelf. Sometimes we have more varieties of cereal open than we have Tupperware. This happens more often when the kids are home from college on break than when it is just my husband and myself. Any opened boxes go on the first shelf where they can be easily reached and get emptied a lot quicker.

And yes, I have a whole cabinet just for cereal. My husband eats a bowl in the morning and also just before bed. Every day. Without fail. Unless he is sick.

We keep our opened boxes on top of the refrigerator - no more than 3 boxes to be opened at once. We keep our unopened boxes on a shelf in the basement

We have 3 tupperware containers and then anything else I just store in the boxes above them. We don't tend to have tons of cereals open at once. Extra boxes are kept on top of the extra fridge.
