Many of you drive from the NY or northeast area. Where do you stay along the way/
any Particular hotel chain recommended?

We are a little closer to WDW, but we broke our trip into 1 1/2 days. NJ to Richmond VA. (We left after a shortened work day) and then Richmond to WDW in one day, arriving in time for a late dinner at Spoodles. We stayed at the Spring Hill Inn in Richmond. New & breakfast was included, which made for a quick get-away on the 2nd day.

We drive down from the upper part of MD in Carroll County. Our stop is HH for 2 days
on the way down and the way back. HH is great for relaxing. If we can't take the time for that stop then we fly.

TwirlerGirl,
I've always wanted to stay at HH! I was wondering, how long does it take for you to get to HH from MD? How long does it take to get from HH to WDW?

We make the drive into two days. Drive around 11-12 hours from ROchester, NY to Raleigh area for the night, and then it's 10 or less hours from there (mostly on 95 so you go a lot quicker than the first day using smaller routes)

We stop in Raliegh because one of my best freinds lives there with his wife, so we stop and see them and use the free stay ;)

We also see them on the way back and since the first time going north is short we get more time with them for the night.

So for the other part of your question on what chain(s) I can't suggest any particular places.

We live just outside Detroit and almost always drive (we drove down 4 times last year). LOL!

We do it in one full swoop. No staying overnight. We usually leave around 6pm on a Friday night and, only stopping for gas and to eat, we make it there in about 18 hours. Dh and I rotate the driving and it works for us. Once we pass through Atlanta, I get possessed! LOL!

We have talked about stopping, but that would take away a day we have at WDW on each leg of our trip.

The Disney Drive is roughly a 15 hr trip for us from far W.V., but with small ones, we divide it into at least 2 or 3 segments. Usually on way down we stop at my sister's house (South Carolina -- 7 hrs), then go the next day to my mom's (St. Aug in FLA -- 6 hrs); then we just have a tiny drive (long enough for youngest to nap!) to WDW. On way back, we're so bummed, we do it in one stop only -- usually at a Hampton Inn in Rock Hill, SC. Nice thing about a Hampton Inn is the continental b'fast (and that they're usually next to either a Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel, both of which work for our crew). One bummer about the Rock Hill hampton, tho -- it doesn't have the indoor pool that most have up north (it is outdoors, and in winter, in that part of south, pools are closed!) Kids were really deflated to learn they couldn't swim that night. We'll have to find another hotel. AmeriHost Inn is pretty good (indoor pool, a newer chain, still pretty cheap, and usually near same restaurant chains.) We may try one of those this time (just 22 days 'til we leave -- VWL here we come!)

We drive from South Jersey twice a year, we try to stay at a Country Inn & Suites, they are very nice and most have indoor swimming pools, which is a fun thing on a cold winter evening for the kids. They also serve a continental breakfast, which is nice before hitting the road. We usually stay at one in St Marys GA at exit 3 on the way down, and try to make the one in Richmond VA heading home.

We do the same thing that you do. We leave around 5 or 6 in the evening on a Thursday and drive all night. DH lets me drive about 2 or 3 hours of the trip from about 5am til about 8ish. We always stop at the Florida Welcome Center because the kids love to get juice and they get brochures for everywhere we'll be going and that keeps them busy the rest of the way. We usually get to WDW at approx. 11am Friday. The tv/vcr combo has been a great thing for us. The kids never complain about the trip. Last year we flew and my DS 13 complained that he missed the drive!
