I picked Independent although I think that it's no accident that the word "politics" has the same number of letters as another word that begins with the letter B and ends with the letter T.

I am a social liberal (pro-choice, anti-capital punishment, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control) and fiscal conservative (support abolition of estate tax, anti-union, curbs on spending, low taxes).

I'm beginning to dislike political parties, but I'm a registered Republican with some liberal leanings. In my older years I'm more inclined to graze the middle ground, especially since neither extreme seems to put the good of the country above party agendas.

The results of this poll are interesting to me - I would have expected more of a bell curve with the peak being in the middle (liberal republicans/conservative democrats), but it looks more like a valley with the peaks on the ends.

The results surprised me too. I expected to see many more Democrats because it seems like there are a lot of threads that have a majority of postings by Democrats. I was wondering if there are just as many Republicans, but maybe they are not as vocal. Maybe this has just been my perception though.

I vote for whomever it is I think will cost me less money and keep me safe. Usually republican.

I don't know what the "conservative" and "liberal" labels are for? Financial stuff? Social stuff?
