Where do you stand on the "Wonderful Christmastime" issue

Funny this came up again. Anyone else see Diana Ross in the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade last week, singing (lip-syncing) this atop a float? Poor Miss Ross was having a bad hair day (it was very windy) and all I could think was, why THAT song?!

Turns out she just released a new Christmas album (which is actually a re-release of an old Christmas album), and that is the title song. I suppose Paul McCartney is happy to get more royalties.

OT, and i know this is an old thread, but does anyone know whatever became of this poster, Luvchefmic, aka Ruthie? (Signature in post in #40.) Last I recall one of her dogs had gotten loose and she was frantically searching for him. Then we never heard from her again! I believe she lived in FL and had horses and dogs. Thanks if you have any info, I've always wondered!

It's not one of my favorites, but it is okay. I really like the version Hanson recorded for the new Christmas album, Finally It's Christmas, they put out last year, though! They added a bit to it and it's a refreshing update!

I am neutral on it. There are holiday songs I dislike a lot more (anything by Mariah Carey) and songs I like more. I don’t change the radio station when it comes on, but I don’t actively listen either.

I saw where I said I hated this song 7 years ago... I have kind of mellowed a bit on that stance. It has been downgraded to more of dislike, but able to tolerate. It actually came on yesterday when I was driving to work, and I did NOT skip it.

I think the song I have most focused on to hate is "Last Christmas" by Wham. I had heard it off and on throughout the years and didn't like it but didn't get too bent out of shape about it. After seeing some Christmas movie called Last Christmas (on Netflix or HBO Max, I don't remember which).... I just cannot stand that song. I never cared much for Wham or George Michael anyway, but it has been elevated to a new level. I think George Michael was a great vocalist, but most of his songs just do not appeal to me.

Oddly enough, I like the Gwen Stefani cover of that song (Last Christmas).

In 2010 it was estimated that this song earns Sir Paul around $400,000 per year. The song came out in late '79 so $400,000 times 41=$16,400,000. It may not be his best song, but I'll bet it's one of his favorites

Reupping my response. No issue with it, but no Christmas music yet. I'll be ready about December 15th. With apologies to my friend who makes his living off an internet radio station that plays nothing but Christmas music year round.

I didn't know Paul Mc wrote this song.
I don't hate-hate it, but with all the vastly superior Christmas songs available, why is this one played constantly? The obvious answer is that -- unlike so many other songs -- it's not religious.
