our flight this year was via newark so we decided to 'make the most' and have a couple of days seeing new york... was AMAZING as we'd never been before.

where else can you go 'via' from the UK (preferable US places) :thumbsup2
we're thinking of perhaps doing the same again next year and seeing somewhere else on our trip?? any suggestions or recommendations? :coffee:

Pretty much anywhere but we have enjoyed Washington DC and Nashville.

We have changed planes in many US hubs but only stopped off in NYC, all the rest just changed planes and continued our journey.
2 popular ones to spend a few days are Boston & Washington.

We were looking at going via Toronto next year and having a couple of days there, to see friends and visit Niagara Falls.

We unfortunately won't have any time to stop over in September but would love the idea of a few days in NY , but with DH's wheelchair and care needs it's quite difficult.

But we are doing indirect flights from Heathrow , we have a 2.5 hour layover in Atlanta. A chance to put our shorts on etc and sort DH's care stuff before a quick flight down to MCO and a dash to the Magical Express .

I'd recommend a few days in Chicago, Washington DC (loads of museums if they interest you and they're mostly free) or San Francisco or if you really want to splurge you can double Disney via LA.

We've flown via Chicago, Washington D.C. and Miami. My parents have flown via Memphis and Atlanta.

That's the only "hubs" we've flown via (I think), but we've never actually stopped in any of the cities.

:thumbsup2 thanks for all your replies....

i've had a wee search and found you can go to orlando from glasgow via Iceland too... wee bit different i suppose... still perhaps swaying to new york again and doing the things we missed last time... undecided....

I'm American but have lived in Oxford for five years now.

I'd say it really depends on the time of year - if it's the winter, I'd avoid northern cities (unless its Christmas). Not only is it cold, but snow does cause delays at airports (although an airport will never close like LHR for one week!!)

I'm originally from Chicago, so I think it's a great place to visit, great architecture, shopping, museums, food and can feel less touristy then large parts of New York.

But don't ignore Atlanta (hub for delta) and Washington DC - might not be the first thing you think of, but both offer a lot to the UK holidaymaker I think.

Only a couple more weeks till no work and good times at wdw for me :)

Oooh! I forgot about that! We've flown from Glasgow with Icelandair (for a holiday in Reykjavik) and have considered visiting again as a stopover.

We've also flown with AerLingus and stopped over in Dublin for a couple of days. :thumbsup2

Washington has probably been our favourite stop en-route, (can't really count vegas as it's not technically on the way. lol).

We've done Washington, Chicago, New york and Miami. If you haven't been to washington I can definitely recommend it, the white house tour is a must.

Back in 2011 we flew into Atlanta and spent three days there and then drove down to Orlando. We loved it and would do it again.
