Where do you find your cheap flights?

I'm looking for sites that will give me the best deal on flights.

Right now the price is holding steady at $614 per ticket. I'm hoping it will come down or that I can find something cheaper.

Thanks for your help

You could check Kayak.com, it's pretty good at listing the lowest published rates. It doesn't lists airlines that I normally use like Jet Blue and Southwest coming from Northern California.

Where are you flying from & when are you flying?

I have been checking Kayak :)

Honolulu, Hawaii to LAX

how far out are you from actual travel date

pretty far out still, luckily. Our trip is in October. I'm just starting to plan early. Last trip we (my family and bff's family) watched prices on Kayak and one day it dropped to the $400s and we booked that day :) it was still about 10 months before the trip. I'm hoping to see a dip this time, but so far it doesn't look like it.

Your strategy is sound. I'd hold on for a while longer (in fact probably 4 more months) before booking flights for October, unless you spot a real deal.

BTW, was just got home from Hawaii on Sunday after 2 weeks there. Beautiful state!

October...... i am from the PNW, I fly alaska airlines, they don't discount until August for fall rates. So best to wait and check and maybe do an online search and see how others in yur situation buy tickets. however, in my ignorance, isn't hawaii a 365 day flight busy anyhow....so isn't there more demand than seats available.

I'll do that, thanks

I hope your vacation was wonderful! The weather has been weird, sunny and hot one day, and then storming the next. Can't complain too much though :)

hmmmm, not sure. Maybe? Our flights do tend to be more expensive, perhaps due to higher demand. But most things are expensive here in comparison so that could be it too

Ive always got decent flights booking directly with the airline. I prefer to fly Southwest and the times I've flown, it's usually the cheapest I've found. Even this time around for our trip in 3wks, I searched every travel site and it was still cheaper booking directly. Good luck!

haha I hadn't thought of checking honestly. I assumed travel sites were cheaper. I'll definitely check though!

Have tried allegiant air?

I haven't. I know they have cheaper flights, but with our airport, they have been known to have constant delays. Plus with 4 people and booster seats and a stroller, the baggage will really add up.

They don't charge for checking in car seats and strollers. They are having a 48 hours sale. Our August trip is $1200 for air + 4 nights at castle inn for 4 people. The sales ends tomorrow. That includes picking seats and 2 checked bags.

I also use Yapta.com you put in the flight you're watching and the price you want and they will email you if the prices drops to that level.

thanks! I'll check it out.

Our last two trips (we went to Cancun in November, we are flying home from DLR this coming October) we have booked through priceline.com (NOT the name your own price fare though) as they were consistently the cheapest option we found.

I know flights TO Hawaii are expensive... Way more than everywhere else we fly, so I assume leaving Hawaii would be expensive too... Gotta get us tourists coming and going. That said, I always buy early... Usually right around the 330 day mark and usually have really good luck with that. When we go to Kauai from PDX, I am happy with anything in the area of $430 pp. I also use kayak to get ideas, and then go directly to Hawaiian, jet blue, Alaska, and southwest. :)

Have you tried both SNA and LAX? I get vastly different prices on each one. We are going this May (from Oklahoma) and we are flying SW to SNA. I bought the return flight with points, I think it was less than $100 pp, I used points and it was like 5,000ish each. I've bought two flights out there because they've had 2 at $182. In contrast, American is 500 to fly to SNA when I was looking. Also, if you put in one ticket at a time you can sometimes get a lower rate. Like I'll buy a couple at the lower rate and keep waiting to see if they drop it again before buying more, and that's worked for me in the past. We are flying there in Oct too and right now they have a direct for $328 to LAX. Also, I got reward credit cards and you get boatloads of bonus miles when you sign up if you spend a certain amount in a certain amount of time. You usually also get free suitcases for you and 4 people in your party.

PDX? that's oregon right? one of my good friends lives in oregon and is actually coming here in 3 weeks. Super stoked. Sorry, sidetracked.
:)

I've been checking off an on since about the year mark and Hawaiian has consistently been $614.

Unfortunately there are no direct flights to SNA from here. With 2 young kids and only a week for vacation (going when DD is on her fall break) I'm trying to skip doing any transfers. I wish we had one though, I 've heard it's much cheaper and closer

Are you on the BI? That may be your issue right there too... Direct flights to the mainland... yikes... I WISH we did direct flights when we go to the islands... but that would easily put it in the $600 range for us (Yep, PDX is Portland... we've also flown from Seattle--which was a huge PITA.) Seems all our Portland flights take us to San Francisco.... I am wondering if in the reverse, Hawaii-San Fran-LAX or smaller airport might be cheaper, and that 2nd flight would just be a hopper. I wish you luck!!
