that have been outgrown?

I have a bunch that didn't sell @our local consignment sale - it was way overpacked - & I know the consignment stores you don't really make any money - cause that's where I go to buy & get great deals...

So I'd like to donate them - so I can get them out of the house - but I'm having a hard time 'cause I don't want them to go to people that wouldn't appreciate good clothes....

Though I'm afraid it'd cost a fortune to mail them somewhere as well....

I've been donating my good, used clothing to "Big Brothers/Big Sisters" for years now. They come right to my house and pick up the bags of clothes (I leave them on my enclosed back porch), and they leave a receipt which can be used for tax purposes. Go to their web site, I know there's a link on there where you can contact them to set up a day when they'll come to your house to pick up your donations.

A local church up here at the lake - City Mission when I'm back at my DD's..:goodvibes

Purple Heart comes to the house

Salvation Army is in town so if I am driving by there.

Near my mom's is a place called Nana's Attic and they sell stuff to support a domestic abuse center. I take things there occasionally if I have my act together because they will only take what is in season

My hospital has its own consignment shop that is run by the women's board, so I donate most of it there. I also drop off at the Salvation Army store or a local church.

Are these children's or adult clothes? For childrens/womens clothes you could check into a womens shelter to see what their need is.

For children/teen's clothing check into your local Children's Home. Some of those kids leave the home, if its an abusive setting, with the clothes on their backs- sometimes they are in their pj's. Many aren't allowed to go back for any of their belongings. They have to choose from whatever is available at the home to wear.

I kept most of mine, thinking I might lose weight. I've got clothes of various sizes in my closet.

I donate everything to Goodwill and Salvation Army. When I lived near my one friend who had kids, we took her stuff to the battered women's shelter. I think no matter where they go, if people end up wearing them, then the clothes will be appreciated. I don't think they have to be worn by a certain "type" of people in order to be appreciated just because they may have been expensive.

DH;s go to a local home for homeless veterans. They give them a place to live and help them find work, get back on track and move into their own places.

Mine go to a local church's thrift shop. I have also donated to a local battered women's shelter.

To the veteran's shelter & Shelter Our Sisters a home for abused women.

I take everything to the GoodWill

I was recently in Portland, Or. and downtown there is a "GoodWill Boutique" it is the higher end merchandise that they get from donations, it was also priced accordingly-Lots of handbags etc. It was really fun to browse and was set up like a boutique.
I shop at the GoodWill as well as Macys - Do not automatically assume that just because you donate it that the person who rebuys it does not know what they are getting and honestly why do you care if they appreciate the label anyway?

I usually ask around.

I have to wear casual business clothes to work and sometimes since I just wear them to work, I get tired of seeing them.

Plus, I'm plus-sized and I know how hard it is to find decent work clothes.

So, I ask around and see if anyone needs anything. My sister is on a tight budget and sometimes likes my clothes that I don't want to ever see again! :thumbsup2 Sometimes she tells me she hates my style for the season and they go to Goodwill.

I've also given to friends' kids who are just starting out and need interview clothes. And then I give them work-clothing advice and most of the time, they don't listen. :rotfl:

A friend delivers mine and my daughter's to the local shelter. She collects from many people, sorts the clothes into age groups and then the shelter collects them. This way if somebody comes in with only what they are wearing there is at least a few things for the kids.

We do the same thing with toys my daughter has grown out of, she packs them up "for the kids who have no toys" and they come by to collect.

Unwearable clothes I bring to the bins outside the SPCA. They sell them for rags and get a percentage of the money. The good stuff goes inside to their thrift shop.

I like to donate to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. I guess I like the fact that it is a Christian organization, and they do provide services to a lot of poor and homeless people in the area.

Around here we have foster care support agency that lets foster kids shop for clothes, etc.. for free.
