I'm in need of new luggage! My lovely lime green set has lasted me a good 8 years, but it's time to retire it now. And I bought a cheap duffel bag type thing from Target for $30, but one flight and it already had holes in it :(

So where did you buy your luggage? Do you like it?

I would love for those ones with four wheels, and I think they're called spinners? Or a hard sided case, but those are $150+! Eek.

I got a nice samsonite at Marshall's. Skate wheels and very light weight. We also scored another samsonite on clearance at Macy's a few years ago. Also skate wheels and light weight.

Hard sides tend to be heavy. And with overweight charges I wouldnt chance it.

I ended up getting mine from Macy's this past winter. I waited until 50% off sale plus an extra10% off. They had some great luggage on clearance, but usually only one left. I needed two and wanted a set.

We used to have a terrific luggage shop in town and I shopped there- awesome service, great selection. But they closed. :(

Now I'd buy at Amazon, eBags, or even somewhere like ideeli (flash sale site). Sometimes you can find good pieces at TJMaxx but that's more unpredictable.

I like ebags, especially their brand, as it has a lifetime warranty. And their brand is good!
Many places offer discounts for ebags, e.g. Mousesavers.com.

I've found you get what you pay for with luggage. Cheap means it's not the best quality.

I've found the best quality for the dollar has been my LL bean luggage. Add-in that they come with lifetime guarantee and its an even better value.

I have the American Tourister spinner type luggage from Walmart. I have had it for about 8 - 10 years, and it has been great. I almost always do carry on, so my luggage doesn't get as beaten up as it would if I checked it. It probably wouldn't have lasted this long if I had checked it on every trip. If you are looking for a carry on, Walmart has a nice looking American Tourister 20 or 21" spinner for $59.

I bought my last bag from Marshalls/TJ Maxx. I got a 22" Travelpro spinner for $70. I used it for a couple weekend trips, but it's going to Paris with me next week!

I shopped all over then eventually bought online -- better deals.

Thanks everyone!

I have to say, I loved my bright green set, $50 for 6 pieces at a grocery outlet of all places. And I could never get it mixed up with someone else's!
:rotfl:

I will definitely take a look at the places you all mentioned. Thanks!

Can't vouch for the quality of it and hopefully "you get what you pay for" wot be the case, but I just ordered a 4-piece set on Overstock for $80, including shipping. It was available in 4 colors and I picked the orange, which should be easy to spot. The reviews were really good and I just couldn't beat the price!

We've had our current luggage for 13+ years. It's beat up but still does the job.
I just bought dh and I, rolling duffles and matching 19" matching bags, for our upcoming trip. I wanted something we could carry on. I bought Sydney Love off of Zulily.com.

I got a green rolling duffel from LLBean that I love. It was listed as 'Kelly Green', but is really a bright, bright green. I just checked and they don't sell that particular color anymore. Instead they have a Beech Nut green that is more of a olive/celery green. My LLBean duffell and has been on multiple trips over the years and is still going strong. I love how lightweight it is and how easy the bright green is to see on the luggage carousel. LLBean also monograms their bags. I have my last name monogrammed on mine. Between that and the bright green color of the bag, there is no way anyone could mistake it for theirs.:rotfl:

I also have a couple of pieces Hey's Exotic hard sided spinners that I like (a carry on and a checked bag). They are also supposed to be lightweight compared to conventional luggage and I love how easy they are to move around. I can push (or pull) them through the airport terminals with just two fingers.

I didn't pay that much for my Heys bags though. I found them at Marshalls for $79.00 and $89.00 respectively.

My preference is Briggs & Riley. Pay for quality, it may suck to drop $300 - $500 on one bag, but you will never need another set of luggage again once you buy the pieces you need.

Reviews consistently report the cheap luggage sold by places like WalMart and Target literally won't last one flight. Some of them are nothing more then fabric covering cardboard.

You can buy good luggage for less then $150, if you shop. The kind of luggage which frequent fliers purchase, which holds up for several flights a week, costs more then $150.

The old Samsonite bags were heavy. Current hard sided cases are made of polycarbonate and are light.

$50 for a set of luggage, probably not even as good as your Target bag.

Forget about most sets. You wind up with pieces you don't need. You need a 27-28 bag you'll be checking. You might want a 21" bag you can carryon on.

My suggestion isn't intended for passengers flying Spirit.

I have a word of caution about the Heys bags. I had read again and again how wonderful the bags were and how much stuff they held, even the small 20" ones. I bought one at Target earlier this year on 70% off clearance for $27 and it is *tiny*. It's fine for a weekend trip, but once I tried to pack for a longer vacation my packing cubes did not fit will in it and I had troubles closing it. I also really missed outer pockets for books and tickets and I missed being about to go into "expando mode" for the way home.

That's what we have. We have one large 26" bag and then each one of us has a 19-22" carry-on. We have been able to fly to FL with just the carry-ons (in December no less!) the year we flew AirTran.

Yeah, I'll avoid Target in the future! But that $50 set was actually amazing. Lasted years and 3 different users who totally abused them! Dropped one off a second story balcony once, and you couldn't even tell. :rotfl2

I'll definitely look at samsonite, I know the local Ross had a few.

Don't get my wrong. Target sells some luggage which is OK. Forget about 70% off. Many stores price luggage so 50 or 60% off is the normal price.

COSTCO is a good place.

Ha! Just ordered the same set last week!! Got it yesterday - and it's very nice! I was going between the orange and the grey...ended up with the grey b/c I thought stains might show less on it. But I really loved the orange!

I can't wait to start packing next week!

If you either provide a link or the exact name of the item you might get some opinions. Better luggage is made of ballistic nylon. Cheap luggage made of polyester.

Remember, cheap luggage might only last for one flight.
