Im wanting to stay in the board walk villa June 3-June8. How do I do this? I think its 10points/night for a total of 50 points. Thanks for any help.

Post your request on the Rent/Trade board. A studio June 3 - 8 would be 13 points a night for a total of 65 points.

By the way, Welcome! We' re in Stillwater.

OMGosh hi, so nice to see someone from my area of the world. Kinda lost in all the learning of the dvc stuff. I was planning on staying off site (renting a vacation home for 700.00/week) so I could have a kitchette, but Im wanting to see if you can really get a good deal with renting dvc points. Is beach club the best one to stay at? do the dvc points only work when renting the dvc resorts or can you u use them for mod/deluxe hotels? Whats the best way to go in trying to get the best deal? How do you decide where to stay or when to rent points? Im wanting to go June 3-June 10. Is it going to be hard to find to find enough points that wont end up costing an arm and a leg? Again, so nice to meet you. P.S. One last question.........Have you ever stayed off site and what were your thoughts?

1) BCV is a good one to stay at, but it's small, so availability is often VERY limited 3 months out. SSR and OKW are larger resorts and may be your best bet for "last minute" availability. (BCV owners often reserve rooms 10-11 months ahead to ensure they will have availability.)

2) you can rent points to stay in disney hotel rooms, but it will cost more than a direct reservation with disney and be more complicated.

3) unless you luck out and find a desperate member AND availability at the last minute to rent for $7-8/point, most likely it will cost at least $10-12/point.

4) all the DVC resorts have different positives and negatives. OKW is cheap, BCV is within walking distance of epcot...etc. the most important thing is to find a trustworthy owner and make reservations as soon as possible! (i had a little trouble finding availability last year, so i wound up buying.)

5) it might be hard to find any availability at this point, but it never hurts to ask. just know that due to DVC rules about points for members, you will most likely be required to pay everything up front (edited to add: and you may not be able to cancel if your plans change) and you will not be able to contact disney or DVC to verify your reservation until a few days before your arrival, so there is a little risk involved.

6) i have stayed off-site, but i usually go in the offseason rather than the summer and i have never tried a vacation home or other timeshare.

welcome!

You can get a good deal renting DVC points but not THAT good a deal. There's a lot of messages floating around lately about renting points being a bargain, but I think that view of it is WAY oversold. It's more about more bang for your buck than much less money. If you were going to stay in a Deluxe or Moderate at rack rate or had a large enough family you needed 2 rooms, then DVC points would probably save you money or give you a whole lot more space. If you got a bargain at the Values or are offsite it's likely not much cheaper.

Example: you said you found a Vacation home at $700 for the week. If you rented DVC points for that week you are talking minimum $650 and that's just for a Studio, not a whole house. Granted there will be no tax on the DVC and probably about $100 worth of tax on that house, but still you have way more space.

Thre is GREAT value in my opinion (obviously, as we bought in several years ago) to being onsite in what are basically Deluxe accomodations, but you may not feel that way.

If the primary goal is to do WDW for less cash outlay, DVC points are not the way to go, in most cases.

By the way, it sounds like you have not made reservations yet. WDW is one of those areas in the world that gets very full. You are less than 90 days out - if you mean this June, you need to make your reservations somewhere or you may not get many choices.
