Have you tried your local shelters? They NEED homes! 
We got our pup at a shelter. He was easy to choose. As all the other dogs were yapping, jumping on the doors, hopping up and down, he went to the door of his run, gave one single bark, and sat down right there. That was the pup for me! Here we are 9 years later and he's still just as sweet. Oh, yes! He was trained, too!
I had taken him for basic training. The trainer walked around the room with him on the leash. Then he said...he knows it all!
P.S. There is NO WAY I'd go back to a puppy. Give me an older dog any day.
