I understand that a suggested tip of 18% or 20% will be added to our meal bill. We are only use to leaving 10% for meals out, so if we feel that the service has not been to a good standard, are we bouned to the suggested amounts? I will be tipping in cash, do i just leave it on the table?
Who else will i need to tip while staying on disney property and visiting the parks?
Thanks for any advise

Like here, you tip for good service. If the service was terrible, don't tip, or tip little.

I personally would take the tip to the counter when I pay for the bill, as 20% can be a lot depending on where you eat and I wouldn't like leaving that much money lying on the table, but I don't see why you shouldn't.

In the UK I always try and leave a tip in cash - even when paying with a card. Then I know the cash is going to the servers and not into the owners pocket :)
So I try and do the same in the US and leave cash on the table or where ever I pay the bill (check).

It is also custmery to leave a tip to your housekeeping at your hotel. On our last trip I printed a load of the mousekeeping envelopes to leave my tip for the mousekeeping at the GF but they never took them, not sure why :confused3 . Having read posts some do some don't.

for housekeeping i leave it on the tray with the ice bucket and glasses- i find it gets taken then.
most restaurants they bring a little folder so i leave the tip in that.
tip wise, leave as much as you feel is fair. :goodvibes

The expected tip in the US is 15-20%. In Disney they bring your bill in an little folder and I leave the tip in this - it is what is expected.

Don't forget to tip anyopne who helps you with luggage and some people tip mousekeeping too.

You may have different Mousekeepers each day, so it is recommended to leave the tip every day and not at the end of your stay.:)

Most restaurants in WDW will show a suggested amount now I believe, but you are not bound to it - tip as you see fit. We have never had service in Florida that I have found to be sub-standard and can honestly say we have never tipped at least 15%. :)

Please be aware that some restaurants in Orlando will ADD the tip automatically so please check your bill before leaving a tip. ;)

Many years ago while visiting Ming Court on I-Drive, my parents gave the waiter a nice tip along with payment of the bill. He returned as we were finishing our drinks to try to return it and explained that a tip was already included in the check. But my mum explained that she wanted him to have the extra as he had made our time there simply outstanding. :worship:

In another Chinese restaurant, my mum paid the bill by card, but left a cash tip on the table when they left. The waitress was not happy that there was no tip added to the credit card slip so she actually followed them outside and asked for one! My mum was horrified and told her to go and take her tip from the table. My mum also told the waitress that if she'd asked for a tip before they had actually gotten outside, she would not have been getting one!

If you experience really bad service, don't leave nothing at all - leave a cent - that way the server will know you were very unhappy with their "service". :snooty:

Can I ask a question about tipping?

If it's not included in the bill, you leave the tip in cash so not to leave a shadow on your card?

If it is included, then you pay with your card, but will there then be a shadow, or is it all done at the same time?

My card is pre-pay, so I can't afford for there to ever be a shadow on my card for however long. :D
