Where do I get a fish extender?

Even though we've done a bunch of DCL cruises, we just did our first fish extender exchange on our July cruise, and it was one of the highlights of the cruise. I highly encourage any new cruisers to get involved with your DIS meet group and participate in the FE exchange, exp. if you have kids -- my kids loved running back to the room to see what was in the pockets, and we divvied up the gifts a week after we got home, which really made us relive some of the fun.

I don't sew and made my FE using fabric, fabric glue, and mini tote bags. I stressed about it, but it was really easy in the end.

Have fun!

that's a great idea to use mini tote bags - I may have to steal that idea. We are doing a December Cruise and I may just get a stocking to hang up, I am not normally crafty....

Here is a picture of mine -- I used the mini tote bags from Michaels that are 3 to a pack ($1 for the pack) and clearance pirate material I found at Joann's. The most expensive part of the FE was the fabric glue, but even that was nominal.

We didn't take the picture until right before we disembarked, so it doesn't look as fresh as it did on day 1 and the pockets got a bit distended from our 40 person FE. I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of it and our door during the cruise!

I love this!! If you don't mind sharing, which directions did you follow? Where would I look for the handbags at Michaels? I would love to do this for our first cruise in January! Thanks for any tips!!

There is a gal on eBay who sells Fish Extenders and Pillow Cases...they are beautiful...and a great deal (or at least I think so).

GOOD LUCK! I intended on making one myself, but I figured my frustration wasn't worth it and I just ordered one.

What do you search for? Fish Extenders? I may be interested in looking her up.......

I'm completely crafty but don't have a lot of time to devote to making one myself....but then again, the awesome tote bag idea that was posted above is a real time saver and looks great!

Sent you the information.

I am with you about being crafty enough, but the time I just didn't have. So it worked out well.

You don't have to put any names on the pockets. But some folks will do separate gifts for the individual kids so it's good to have some way to tell them apart. In addition to doing the personalized pictures on each pocket (pirate mickey head, princess mickey head for example) you could also put "Pirate 1" and Princess 2 or something like that to tell the kids apart.

I rather not put the kids first names on the pockets -

Names are not necessary. It does help to putting the age (ie: DD9 or DS3) on the cruise meets page. This way if the FE fairy has age options they know. Example: I may leave a different treasure for a DD14 and DD4. :wizard:

Hi Sara,
I bet your looking forward to your cruise. I think the best FE's are the homemade ones. One easy thing to do is to buy a canvas bag and use hand paints to either trace a design or do something like that. YOu can also buy a bag and use Iron-on patches etc. I went during Christmas and just used a stocking. Since April showers bring May flowers, you would use a decorated flower basket.

As far as door decor I would'nt push it but you can always buy door magnets and type something on your pc, print it off and paste it to special magnets that you can get at like AC Moore or even Target.

Remember FEing is supposed to be fun and non-stressful so just have fun and create what you can. I have even seen plastic disney bags hanging from their FE. Although its not all that creative, they at least wanted to be part of it and therefore did what they could!

Have a Magical cruise!
