Where do DVCers vacation … outside of DVC?

We've been very fortunate to own DVC and take our kids while they were growing up - they're all in their 20s now. They learned to read a map, navigate transportation systems, and manage money. Not intentional, but they learned some decent life skills at WDW.

DH was a consultant for many years and had a few clients that took him overseas. He's traveled for work extensively: Brazil, India, Kenya 2x, Zambia, Australia, Guatemala, Canada, and Europe. We were able to join him for Barcelona, London, and Paris in 2016 (3 separate trips). Before Covid, we were able to do a Viking River cruise from Amsterdam to Basel for the Christmas Markets. We also managed to travel to Florence with day trips to Venice and Pisa. After Covid, we been to Montreal to visit our daughter, Wisconsin to visit our son, and Buffalo to visit family. For work, DH had conferences in Las Vegas (one and done) and South Beach Miami (one and done).

We've done Disney Cruises with the kids. We moved to Central FL 5 years ago for DH's work, and it helps to be near Port Canaveral for cruising. We've done 1 Royal Caribbean and 1 MSC.

We have Naples and Sicily planned for this Fall.

We cruise DCL several times a year and spend at least a week on 30A every summer.

If you like DVC you have great taste! So, where are you vacationing when you’re not using your points at Disney? I bet we all have a lot of similar interests since we have DVC in common - let’s recommend some other great places to vacation (even though nothing can compare to Disney!)

For us, we like Chatham, MA and Kennebunkport, ME. (Also Hilton Head but that’s covered by DVC).
We love DVC and Orlando is a quick flight from our home in New Jersey. The past couple of years however, we have ventured across the pond to both Spain and Italy. From NJ the flight isn't that much longer than going out to California but we are discovering a whole new experience. It's been great.

I have family in Maui so we have visited there a few times recently. Haven't made it to Aulani yet though.

We love relaxing and beaches, so some places my wife and I have been to in the last few years were Jamaica, St. Lucia, Mexico (Cancun/Riviera Maya region) a few times,

And our favorite trip ever was to Fiji at a place called the Remote Resort. Hard to get to, and had to boat everywhere, but they offered daily adventures like snorkeling with mantas or at various reefs, hikes through the jungle to waterfalls, private beach picnic drop offs, and all with the clearest waters we have ever seen. We are dying to go back. It's low capacity, around 10 oceanside villas, but we would highly recommend it.

NH here! If you haven't, make sure you stop in Portsmouth NH just after crossing the I95 bridge from Kittery, ME. It is five minutes to town. Park on Market Street in or in the garage and walk around for an hour or two (get lost) and have a snack or lunch. The 1700's and 1800's architecture is breathtaking. I promise, you will be back! Enjoy!
Fellow NH resident here, great place lots to do! :wave2:

We did an Alaska cruise last year and spent time in Seattle just being tourists. This year we went on another cruise to Honduras and Mexico. Been several times to an all inclusive in the Riviera Maya (Mexico). Cruise once to three times a year to Bahamas/Caribbean.

International mostly. We spent 3 weeks in Brazil in May/June this year (late fall there, perfect weather) and it was amazing. Here is (a very small section of) Iguassu Falls on the Brazil side...

We head to Curacao the first three weeks of February, stay at the Royal Sea Aquarium resort. We bought in there, a couple years before DVC. Also head to Bermuda every other year on Norwegian out of Boston.

We bank/borrow points so that we have "non Disney" years. Over the past several years we've gone to: Acadia National Park/Boston, Grand Canyon/Sedona, a Caribbean cruise, and Hawaii (non DVC).

Coming up, we have a cruise in Europe booked.

I’m actually getting bored of DW after 2 weeks a year, every year, over the last 7 years. Is that bad?

We did Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, park city and Denver for 2 weeks recently. I’m planning a trip to Asia next year instead of DVC for 2025…..

Our boys have the option of a birthday party with friends, birthday party with family, or a long weekend away that can be done by car. My middle son wants a trip for his September birthday, so we found a cabin on VRBO in central Michigan with an indoor pool and mini-golf on premises, plus license-free fishing on the lake, and a reindeer farm and classic theater nearby. The cabin is spacious and has a pool table and skee-ball in the basement.

When I'm not at WDW, I basically want a vacation like The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd. A cabin, kind of kitschy, with a restaurant nearby serving up an old 96er. But maybe I'm biased since we live near Chicago and that movie was supposed to be about a bunch of Chicagoans visiting Wisconsin.

Years ago, right after Obama was elected president, I went to Baja Mexico to island hop, kayak, hike, and snorkel with sea lions. I loved camping on the island beaches. Never thought anything of the risks. I wouldn't do that now for multiple reasons.

Also, I once thought it would be fun to visit Glacier National Park and others. Now, I'm afraid of bears, heights, other hikers, etc.

Funny thing how people change. In my 20s, I was immortal. Now, about six months away from 40 and I'm nearly a decomposed corpse.

I have been cruising for decades, before Disney had cruise ships, so that's still something on my list - lately due to some family illnesses I haven't been able to cruise in years - though that will be resuming soon. I have never cruised on Disney - despite loving Disney World and using my DVC 4 times a year or more, I never could wrap my head around combining Disney and cruises so I generally cruise on Holland America or Celebrity, with the occasional Royal Caribbean or Princess.

I do enjoy spending some time in Dec/Jan in western North Carolina to get a little bit of winter in my life (living in S Florida, we don't get any cold down here) - usually the Blowing Rock/Boone area.

I also love Quebec - the whole province is nice, but Quebec City is just entirely too charming to skip.

Having spent my college years in New Orleans, that's just such a unique and cool and fun city that I'm still drawn back there every 5-6 years if I can swing it - my college roommate and close friend lives in central TX, and we've done a few 'meet in the middle' trips in New Orleans.

We have enjoyed beach weeks during summer in several locations along the FL Gulf coast over the last 10 years. This year during the first week of January we went to the Kennedy Space Center and then onto Universal Studios Fl (again). During spring break, my husband and dd1 went skiing, snowmobiling in Crested Butte, while my dd2 and I enjoyed the wdw at Poly. We say no thank you to spring snow. Next week we’re flying to Denver for another Colorado road trip. First stop is Crested Butte for a few days with a sxs rental to offroad around the Taylor Reservoir area. Then on to Telluride for 5 nights to enjoy some hiking, jeep off roading, and incredible stunning mountain views. Telluride is an amazing town where you park your car and enjoy the summer highs of 73°. It’s a gem.
