I'm trying to decide between a Cat 4 and Cat 6 for our cruise on the Disney Dream. My daughter will be 32 months (just 4 months shy of 3 years old) at the time we cruise. It is hard to know at this time if she will be too big for a Pack-n-Play. This is my first cruise, so I don't appreciate the sizes of cabins. For those of you who have cruised with children this age, where did they sleep? Will I need to have a Pack-n-Play in the cabin or will bed rails be sufficient? If I need a Pack-n-Play, will I need the extra space that the Cat 4 offers? Any input is appreciated.

When mine were that age they slept on the bottom bed and were just fine.

I haven't used this on a cruise but for our toddler we bought the AeroBed for kids. It has raised sides and comes with a cover and a carrying bag. We LOVE it!

He slept on the bottom bunk and we requested a bed rail from our stateroom attendant. She had it all set up and ready to go for us at turn down. He was perfectly happy there and I felt he was safe.

On our cruise on the Wonder last year our 18month old slept just fine on the fold out (bottom bunk) with the bed rails just fine, and she was (is) a pretty wild sleeper...we just told our room attendant what we wanted to do and he had it all set up every night when we got back to the room after the show.

My daughter was 3 and slept in the bottom bunk with the bed rails and she was just fine.

Our son was 3 and slept in the bottom bunk just fine too, (wait, they have bedrails for the bottom bunk? :lmao:) We just put the table right next to the bed to give him something to "bump" into if he went too far, but he never came close to falling out!

Right in the middle between DH and me!! :lmao: The last night we had quite strong waves and I was concerned that he might roll out. Needless to say he was happy as a clam. He was just shy of 2 at the time. There was, thankfully, enough room. DD, age 4 at the time slept in lower bunk.

Our DS was 2.75 at the time of cruising. We put him in the lower bunk and had no problems whatsoever. There is a rail if desired to keep your child in.

I think the bottom bunk w/ the rail will be just fine. Our rail was almost as long as the bed with a small space on the bottom for climbing in and out. My just turned 3 year old did great in it!
You can always request a pack 'n play if it doesn't go well the first few hours the first night. The stateroom hosts work until after 10 most nights and since my kids went to bed quite a bit earlier than that I could always find them if needed before it was too late. Or you could call housekeeping as well :).

I think by that time she should be fin on the bottom bunk! We travel a lot with my DD (who will be 3 in 2 weeks) and she either sleeps with us, or on a pull out no problem!

I think by that age most kids are out of a pack n play!

We were a cat 9 and my 2 1/2 year old slept in a pack n play. He was still in a crib at home so I didn't want him in a bed.

We are going again this August and I will put him in the pack n play as he is still in his crib at home.

Okay, I know I'm pushing it and he should be in a bed. But he is my last and I want to hold onto the baby stage as long as I can.

A cat 6 should be fine even if you need a pack-n-play.

Ditto all the replies on bottom bunk being ok--ours was 3 1/2 and fine, although he was already sleeping in a bed at home by that point. I think even if he had been younger, I would have been ok with the bunk with the addition of a bed-rail. We were in a Cat. 11, and the bottom bunk had this couch-like back to it (it's basically a couch during the day), so it makes it feel very cozy and enclosed, I think.

I have requested a pack n play for my 2 and a 1/2 year old - she is still in her cot (crib) at home and although she will be moving to a bed when we get home from our trip I don't want to introduce such a big new thing on the trip - I just know she will be an escaper and not stay in the bed right away!

I was wondering this too. Is the bunk bed ends against a wall by any chance? The bed rail would cover the side, but my DS scoots to the end of the crib & lays w/his back against it.

On the last cruise we went on mine were just 3 and 4. We had two rooms so I had planned to have them sleep together in the double bed, but the teen slept on the top bunk, so the 4 year old slept on the bottom and the 3 year old ended up in the double bed all by herself.

The photos are wonderfull of this little girl asleep all by herself in this huge bed.

I am sure you will find what works best for you. The ship is made for children.

My son was 16 mos the first time we cruised with him and we used the pack n play and had no problems in cat 6. When we go in Oct he will be 3 and way to big for the pack n play. I will defintely ask for the rails for the bottom bunk (my 14 DS is getting stuck on the top which he is not thrilled about :)) this time. I am concerned just like some of the previous posters because he tends to roll around and even managed to fall out of his toddler bed which is a crip conversion so there is only a 2 foot opening.:rotfl2:

Have you considered bringing a roll of duct tape and doing this? A lot cheaper than getting a larger room with enough beds.:surfweb:
