Where did you vacation

Don't have to be camping to have that, venture out the back door on a regular summers day here and make sure "look before you step".....oh and chuck in some tiger snakes to make it interesting.

We live in brown snake country, aggressive buggers. Have tigers and copperheads but rarely see them.

Never seen a cooperhead - don't really want to, but Tigers and Browns inhabit my back yard every summer, last summer a 5 foot Tiger snake was trying to get in my back door to eat my cat, who was toying with it through the glass.....lol
:scared: Oh Sweet Mother of Pearl...I'm sitting here trying not to faint just thinking about it! :faint:

I've bookmarked this page to re-read the next time I feel like complaining because the chipmunks in my yard are noisy and annoying...(P.S. I'd "like" your posts but the idea of snakes is just too hideous - I can't even...)

Sorry :) I would quite happily swap out snakes for some chipmunks, have never seen a chipmunk before.

You do get used to having to be aware of the snakes and the possibility of stepping on one. We keep an old broom handle at the back door, for when we have to venture into the yard....is my weapon of choice....lol....my daughter loves the little blighters I can't stand them.

Savanna, Georgia. No offense to those who like and/or live there. It's beautiful. There was just something about the vibe there that made us distinctly uncomfortable.

Ditto to those who don't camp. I have always said my idea of roughing it is a hotel without a jacuzzi.

It wasn't really a "vacation, vacation" but when DH and I moved from Minnesota to California for me to take my first "real job", we drove and took 3 weeks to do so. In hindsight, that was a horrible mistake. We were both under a LOT of pressure (moving away from everyone and everything we'd ever known, DH with no job) and every little thing made us both snappy. We camped (which I *loathe*) to save money. Well, it rained nearly every single dingle day. We had a crappy tent. Things were soaked or damp constantly. Ugh. At one point, DH pulled the car over to the side of the road, grabbed his backpack, and started walking back towards Minnesota. LOL. I coaxed him back in eventually. But, it was ugly. Anyway, we do not have fond memories of that trip to say the least.

That was over 30 years ago, so obviously it didn't damage our relationship too badly. It is not, however, a trip I'd repeat unless I stayed in a hotel every night. Tent camping is NOT for me. So, never again.

Hilton Head. Although it wasn't Hilton Head I hated, it was the place where we stayed. It just wasn't very nice. We actually ended up leaving a day early to head home. Made a couple other stops on the way home, to see touristy things though, and that part was nice.

When I was 9 years old, my parents drove to Grand Haven, Michigan to visit some of my father's relatives. I was bored out of my mind. I suppose the area was nice enough, but everyone was so much older than me. Even the distant cousins were already in their late teens or older.

A few years after college, six of us went to Florida, two days at Disney and then the Gulf Coast. By the third or fourth day, everyone was bickering and we all ended up being mad at each other.

My first visit to Galveston, Texas was disappointing. The beach, to put it mildly, was not attractive, and I wasn't impressed with the historic sites. About 10 years later we gave it another shot and had a much better time.

Hate is a very strong word and I don't use it too often but…I was part of an extended family vacation from hell to Nags Head many years ago. Lots of arguments, car keys lost on a sand dune, drunken members puking on the floor (that's where they were sleeping) in the middle of the night, one aunt insisting on making a turkey dinner in July, an ex husband, and a big storm that prevented any beach swimming for two days. It has become family lore. My parents and one aunt and uncle were the only smart ones who stayed home.

I didn't really care for the Outer Banks either.

Edit: I forgot about breaking a toe!

Well, they're hideous, I'm sure you'll agree - those nasty chubby cheeks and repulsive little furry fingers ;), but still not as bad as snakes... Oh, and whacking them with a broomstick works too!

Cruise to Bermuda was lovely going down...returning, not so much. Two words, Hurricane Gloria, nuff said.

The bolded is one thing that would ruin any vacation for me, and we refuse to do it. I get that it works for so many people, but I want no part of it!

I don't remember any bad vacations, but I'm not one to agree to go places I don't think I'll like. My husband loves to camp and backpack, but that is not my thing, so I don't go with him.

I've been on cruises in hurricanes and nor'easters. Watched the first wave of Hurricane Sandy hit Jamaica from our beachfront resort and got massages in the morning. (watching from my living room window a few days later was much scarier!!!!)
I stayed at a crappy resort in Upstate NY that served me toast with mold on it. Went out to eat after that!
They are all stored as funny memories. Try walking down the hallways of cruise ship with giant waves crashing...it is kinda fun!

The only vacation spot that I can say I would never return to is Massanutten in Virginia. Just not our style. We found lots of rude people. The icing on the cake was only allowing bottled water by the pool while listening to barry manilow. It was such a "fuddy-duddy" place! We tried to make our fun, but not the atmosphere we look for on vacation!

NYC this past December. It was between Xmas and NYE and it was crowded, expensive and freezing cold. Not my cupa...

My dh works there and we live about an hour away. I avoid the holiday season like the plague. Fighting a zillion people to say yup that is a big Christmas tree isn't my idea of fun. Or standing for a full day without a bathroom to watch the ball drop in frigid temps is just crazy to me.

If u ever come back try the fall or spring. So much nicer!!!
Petrified Forest.

Went off the highway to see a bunch of nothing.
I was there last week! I didn't make a special trip to see it, but was in the area for a wedding so decided to check it out. It was ok, but we stayed about 45 minutes which was plenty.

Worst vacation would have been going to the Ozarks with my parents as a teenager. Most teens probably don't want to hang with their parents for any extended period, but it sucked sitting in the back seat of the car going through all those winding roads. We stayed at some ancient hotel with no air conditioning (in the summer.) You could open the window in the room and turn on the ceiling fan. :sad1:

I've been lucky in that all of my vacations, from the time I was a kid, have been, at worst, bearable. Apart from a few mishaps here and family squabbles there, there's never been a vacation that I absolutely hated.

Mrs. Homie and I did drive up to the Mall of America once, after having seen it on The Travel Channel and thinking it looked awesome. We got there and it was just.... a really big mall. We came home a day early, but I wouldn't say we hated it.

Ditto loathing Las Vegas. Have to go every year for a convention. Hate it every year.

A trip to WDW as a reunion with two friends. We all used to be very close. I stayed close with both. They'd lost touch. We quickly discovered they had nothing in common and neither made any effort. It alternated between leaden silence and bickering. Horrible, horrible time was had by all. Wasn't WDW's fault, though.

We had a cabin up the river, had a boat and planned on fishing. Arrived, checked in, cabin was nice, but the river was cresting over. Not enough to affect the cabin but fish weren't biting. Not a single nibble the entire weekend. We asked other fisherman and they had the same luck. Their we are out in the boonies, no tv, no internet, no cell service, no restaurants/shopping/entertainment for at least an hour drive, and no fish.

Getting skunked is part of being a fisherman. The rest of the trip sounds like heaven to me. DW and I have been taking little weekend trips to remote State Parks that past 9 months or so. No internet, no cell service, they did have TV. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO relaxing.

Can't say I have had a bad vacation in 59 years. Some, however, have been more of an ADVENTURE than others.

I haven't hated anything but probably my least favorite was Atlanta. It was very hot and the traffic was awful. The airport was under construction and hard to figure out too. In fairness the city did seem to have a lot to offer.
