Did you purchase your DVC through Disney or some other source? Please, explain which is better new or used?

Bought our VWL from Timeshare Store. Takes a little longer but you can get sold out resorts that are not available through Disney. May be a little cheaper than Disney also.

We purchased through Disney because we really had no knowledge of the resale market at that time. This was 9 years ago, and I didn't even know about the DIS. We were not an easy sell. We had toured with one guide and decided to wait until we had enough to pay in full. Two years later, we toured again, but still didn't buy. We waited until about 3 months after we returned home, and then sent in a payment in full and signed at the Mickeys and dated at the palms!

Bought OKW contract from The Timeshare Store. Pat Spell is our contact.

Bought BCV from Disney. Byron Helgeson is our guide.

We were pleased with both experiences.

Reasons to buy from Disney:
1. Easier to get the use year and number of points you want.
2. Preconstruction prices and incentives are the best time to get into a new resort.
3. New resorts don't have resales initially.
4. No closing costs.
5. Easy financing if you need that.

Reasons to buy resale:
1. Availability of contracts at sold out resorts.
2. Lower cost.

All our contracts have been purchased through DVC. After reading through these boards I am quite glad we did especially after reading some of the stories about closing companies losing documents etc.

paid in full, used a home equity loan at 4%...For us it was the right thing to do!

We purchased VB directly from Disney, and BWV from the Timeshare store. In both instances, all went well.

We stopped at a kiosk in one of the parks for like 5 mins. Looked at pics and left. Didin't give it much thought. About 1 1/2 yrs later (after hearing about it from my sister (who bought it a few months before us) we decided to buy and we did it over the phone and through the mail. We used a Home Equity @ 4% and is now paid off. Wish we had stayed at the kiosk and took the tour, we could've saved some $$. It was a "no pressure at all" deal. I can't stand when people pressure you to buy things...DVC wasn't like that.

Just curious, why would you have saved money at the Kiosk? Do they give a discount while you're there?

Likeley because the price went up in the year and a half they waited to buy their membership. So if they had of done it at the keyosk and gone for the tour they would have purchased earlier thus saving money on the points they purchased as they would have been cheaper then.

This is so funny because my DW & I did the same thing as you! We decided to buy two years ago from Disney, and at the time they were showing BWV but they had some points still for BCV so we had a choice of which resort we wanted. But what was so funny was we had also looked into DVC when they were selling VWL and had information sent to us when they were selling OKW, well to make a long story short when the guild came out to talk to us she had paper work on us from all the way back to OKW! :earseek: We ended up paying in full for BCV from DVC and we keep saying to each other that we should have done this a long time ago! :earboy2:

Our first purchase was for BCV and was directly through Disney. We didn't know any other options existed and the transaction was very quick and painless - well except for the output of money.

THe second purchase approx 6 months later was through The Timeshare Store after finding this site. We searched for several weeks for a contract that interested us. We found one at OKW and the process was easy too. It might have taken a bit longer but we were not in any hurry at that time.
