With all the wedding talk lately, its got me thinking/dreaming of a nice honeymoon destination. We are def on a budget though!

Where did you go?

Any advice?

Favorite tropical destination?

Best trip you ahve ever taken?

Budget honeymoon tips?

On a budget I'd say maybe go somewhere sentimental.

My DH and I had our first date at Cedar Point. Two years later and on a budget (plus DH was in the Army and had only 3 more days of leave) we went back to Cedar Point. It may not have been the most romantic place but it was special to us and we had a great time.

I am not saying go to Cedar Point, though it is fun! But go somewhere that it special to you.

We dreamt of an Alascian cuise, but didn't have the money. So we said we would go for our 10th annivarsary (almost 6 years ago.) Well, we still didn't have the money so we now are saying our 25th. Only 9 years to go...:cheer2:

Best Wishes on a happy marriage....

We went to St. John, USVI and loved it.

We rented some snorkeling gear and a jeep and spent a lot of time exploring the island. We also stayed in a place that had a small kitchen and bought a few groceries at a local store for breakfasts and lunches when we didn't want to spend money on a fancy dinners.

This wasn't our honeymoon but we have gone to Cancun a couple of times, we went the all inclusive route because it includes all of your food, alcohol and most of your activities. We went for a week and the whole thing cost less than 3 thousand, seems reasonable to me but I'm not sure what your budget is.

We stayed at a really nice resort, you can do it cheaper if you would like as well.

DH and I went to Florida for 10 day's followed by a 2 week cruise.
We were going to Hawaii and a month before our wedding, Hurricane Inniki hit and wiped out the island we really wanted to go to, so w/in 30 day's we had to re-do the whole thing! :) We had a blast though!

We honeymooned in Disney at Grand Floridian. Not budget, but in 1993, quite a bit cheaper than it is today!

We went to France for 2 weeks, back in 2001. We even spent a day at Disneyland Paris. It was semi-budget because a friend used his miles to get us business class tickets for free and the Euro was very low at that point. We also stayed in cheaper B&Bs or little indpendent hotels, which saved money. And a lot of our meals were bread, cheese and wine, also cheap. But it was still 2 weeks away in a foreign country, so not super budget. It was a blast though and I wish we had the opportunity to take 2 weeks off again now, but we don't.

Honeymooned in Tahiti- 2 weeks and absolutely not budget(hotel bora bora oh la laaaa) felt like a rock star- they picked us up from the airport in a motor boat - as everyone was getting on a ferry(the runway is a strip in the middle of the ocean!!) we had a James bond type boat pull up- the guy held a sign with our names and off we went. ahhh heaven on earth.

Favorite "other" trip was to Jumby Bay off the coast of Antigua- also not budget. But worth every stinking penny - they pamper you over the top here and it's ALL inclusive including drinks. It's a private island with only the resort and 10 luxury homes. There are no cars. only bikes!:rotfl2: and yes I broke my finger on a bike after one too many cocktails.

My advice is that while you may think you want action you will be exhausted. A beach to lounge on is a wonderful thing.
Congratulations!

Our Jamacian Honeymoon was cancelled and we used the $ to put down on a new house! We honeymooned in Gatlinburg, TN in the fall and it was beautiful and budget.

We honeymooned at the WL in 1996. :goodvibes This was DH's first trip to Disney. We had a fall fantasy package with included free breakfast vouchers. I can't remember the exact cost but I think with airfare it was around $2000 back then. Now the WL is out of our budget so we have not returned to that resort:sad2:

Disney, of course!

We stayed at the Grand Floridian for 5 nights, so it wasn't budget, but it was fun.

Was it ever! :lmao: We drove exactly an hour away and stayed in a hotel. The next day we went to Six Flags and then out to dinner at Red Lobster! Such big spenders we were! Truthfully, we were a couple of small town kids who'd never been anywhere so it was a big deal to us and we had a blast.

After that, we spent a couple of days in his parent's travel trailer at the lake until they showed up planning to spend the rest of our honeymoon with us!
Yep, that was my sign! Needless to say, we packed up and got the heck out of there!

Anyway, we didn't need a big elaborate trip and we sure couldn't afford one. We were happy with what we had, that is, except for the inlaw intrusion!

We went to WDW on our honeymoon.

We stayed at Dixie Landings, in a king size corner room on the Plantation side. This was in 1992. It was our first time staying on site. We were hooked.

We did it as economically as possible. We were FL residents and got the seasonal passes. Towards the end of our stay we recieved a message on the phone offering us 2 extra nights at a substancial discount so we took advantage of it and thus ended up spending a whole week at WDW.

To make the trip even more special, we did a quick check in late on our wedding night, having just drove3 hrs. The next morning we go back to officially check in, get our passes, etc. While DH was waiting in line I did a bit of window shopping. When I came back and met up with DH he was so super excited. It turns out that the man behind him in line started up a conversation. Don from Utah was travelling with his family, his daughter had won the trip and they were checking out. Their trip included lots of extras and they were not able to use them so the passsed them on to DH. DH politely said thank you and could not wait to tell me. When we turned around Don from Utah was gonepixiedust:

It turns out that Don from Utah gave DH an envelope filled with vouchers....we had bike rentals, boat rentals, MEALS, etc. So, aside from all the special plans we had made....reservations at Alfredos, watching Illuminations from the pub, etc......we were able to have lunch at the Grand Floridian, dinner at the upstairs fancier place in France, special dessert at the Coral Reef. DH had a blast driving a boat around Downtown Disney, etc.
At the end of our trip we still had vouchers left over so at check-out DH was able to pass some of the magic along to the family behind him that was checking in.

It was really magical.pixiedust:

We are going to Disney in June for our honeymoon. We're staying at AKL CL for 10 days so its definitely not budget.

Of course it can be done as a budget trip we just have the money for more. My parents are using miles for our tickets so we are cutting some of the costs there.

We live near Seattle, and we took an Alaskan cruise, at the very end of the cruise season there, from Vancouver. Took public transit to the Seattle train station (it was an early train and we didn't want to bug friends, nor did we want to pay $100 for a cab like we did when we came home), took Amtrak to Vancouver. Stayed at a hotel that wasn't budget, LOL, but the cruise itself was pretty low-cost. Oceanview guarantee room, where you say "I want any ocean view room or possibly higher, I'm not picky" and they assign you a room. Did one official excursion b/c a friend of ours sent RCCL funds to our account as a present, and other than that toodled around the towns on our own.

DH and I had our honeymoon in St. Lucia. Wasn't budget by any means. But, what a beautiful place. :) In my life I have never seen such beauty. We walked through a volcano, biked in the rainforest, ate bananas right off the tree and swam in a waterfall. I would give anything to be able to go back but I don't see that ever happening. It was a dream that I had since I was a child. I saw The Today Show broadcasting there when I was younger and put it at the top of my list of places I wanted to see.

Just keep in mind that we (DH and I) were both young and just starting out.

We had our honeymoon in Washington DC. Yes, it was budget. The hotel was in Chevy Chase MD and we took the train in to see museums.

All the museums were FREE. We got to see the Washington Memorial, the National Cathedral, Arlington Cemetary and well.. Georgetown and Chevy Chase MD.

We had a great time

We had absolutely no money so we drove to West Virginia and stayed at a timeshare my sister traded for (that was her wedding gift to us).

Still married after 18 years.

Where did you go? A very budget long weekend in San Antonio

Any advice? Spend less on the wedding and more on the honeymoon. We're still married after 29 years- the wedding day is a foggy blur. We loved the relaxing, fun time together on the honeymoon more than the few hours of the wedding.

Favorite tropical destination? Don't have one- we don't really enjoy laying on a beach or water sports

Best trip you ahve ever taken?England and France

Budget honeymoon tips? Look for a good deal rather than a specific place- I've been getting emails for some great travel deals.

we spent a week at WDW.. we had started out with a budget but brought along CC just in case.. well turns out his fam and my dad had other plans, they stuck several of the cards we got at our actual wedding in the car with us and told us to open them when we were on the road..by the time we got to the last one we had $1000 to use on our honeymoon so we had a blast! Anything can be done on a budget with enought planning!
