Where did you go to get a passport photo for an infant?

I wanted to get photos for my daughters tomorrow, but I don't know if Walgreens/Target/etc photo centers are setup take take passport photos for babies and toddlers. Anyone have any experience with this?

Some passport offices will take the pictures. Check with your Post Office, as many of them offer passport services. We had our infant daughter's done at the County Clerks Office (in TX).

Sears was the only place we could go for our infant daughter. They had a set-up that allowed them to take a passport photo of a child lying down.

Call your local Sears and see if they can do passport photos of babies.

We are missionaries so we travel frequently and have had to take all of our kid's passport pictures when they were infants. We took our own photo by lying our babies on a white sheet on the floor. natural lighting is best because you aren't supposed to have any harsh shadow. Crop your photo to a 2x2 in. image and print it out on your printer at home. It saves so much money doing it on your own. It really isn't that hard.

My son needed a passport at 22 months. Walgreens had him stand on a box in front of a white pull down back drop with me holding onto his waist from behind the backdrop. The PP already gave great advice for an infant.

The government passport webpage gives the requirements for infant passport photos (travel.state.gov). Some drugstore type photographers are not aware of the requirements. The page recommends either the "sheet on the floor" method that PP describes or covering a car seat with a white sheet. The eyes must be open and looking at the camera.

We took our DGD at 4 weeks to a photographer who does passport photos and was familiar with the requirements. He placed a white sheet over me and I held her upright for the photo. The charge was very reasonable and not much different that a drugstore photo.

This is what we did. Covered the car,seat with white fabric. Took us a few takes to get my little monkey to look at the camera, but we did it. Took the photo at the highest resolution our camera could handle and then cropped the photo to the correct dimensions with the eyes/head in the "zone".

A lot less stress and certainly a lot cheaper than going to a photographer.

We had our daughters taken at AAA, but not sure if they have those other than in CA and then had to take her down to the post office to complete the process (she had to be there even though she was only 9 months)

We went to Walgreens when our daughter was 6 weeks old. Hilarious experience, but perhaps not one I'd repeat - there wasn't anywhere to lay her down, so DH held her supported up in the air (picture Lion King presentation of a cub). The photo guy kept retaking it because you're supposed to be "making eye contact" with the camera and you had to be able to see both her ears. Ha! Have you ever asked a six week old to make eye contact with something? Then the post office said they didn't think it would work because her head wasn't 2 inches tall. Wasn't a problem - we got her passport about a month ago, too small head and no eye contact and all.

In retrospect, highly recommend the sheet-on-the-floor method PP mentioned. We learned that one too late.

We went to Walgreens and just held our baby up in the air. Not much of a problem, and kind of cute now that he is a few years older to see how much he has changed! I don't know how an Agent looks at the photo and says, "yes, that is him"

I did my own at home. I looked up the requirements online, hung up a white sheet as a background, and started snapping. It took a few sessions since she was old enough to crawl away, but once I got one I found free software that would crop and center it appropriately. For me doing it on my own was less stressful than finding a place who was used to young kids, timing it right, and crossing my fingers that she wouldn't scream for a stranger.

Our Walgreens had a white background (poster board?) that they laid on the ground and then we laid dd on top of it and they took her picture from above. Somehow the guy got her to look at him and have her eyes open, a small miracle since she was like 2 months old and not overly interested in looking at people yet.

Now I laugh because her brown baby hair has turned super blonde and I think (at almost-2) she looks nothing like her passport photo, I guess that's why kids need new ones every 5 years
