Where did you get married?

We got married in Disney - Ceremony was in Epcot France.
DH and I arent religious at all either!

We got married at Sunset Point in Disney (at the Poly). I wore flip-flops. :) We had our 'reception' at the Spirit of Aloha show, and went out with our guests to downtown Disney afterwards. We had 13 guests.

We got married at Disney World, and it was perfect for us! While we are religious and wanted our faith to play an important role in our ceremony, Disney is certainly able to accommodate any type of ceremony you'd like. There are lots of officiants on a list you can choose from. And I'll always cherish the memories of getting married at my favorite place! :)

I remember Elisabeth's gorgeous wedding pictures! She really did the Disney bride thing fabulously. I would love to get a vow renewal there one day!

We got married where I went to college, which was, conveniently, just about perfectly midway in between our families. Great memories!

We were supposed to get married at the Haddon Fortnightly in Haddonfield, NJ (http://www.haddonfortnightly.org/) BUT 4 weeks before the wedding, the 2nd floor of the building collapsed into their 1st (basically, our ceremony fell through and crushed our reception) and NO ONE TOLD US! We found out from a neighbor of my Aunt who was randomly talking about how thankful she was that it collapsed after her nephew's wedding and that no one was hurt!

After a week of back-and-forth with my caterer and the nightmare people who ran the Fortnightly (who continually lied to me and the caterer about the condition of the building, even once telling my Mother that the building would be 'ok' but would have no roof...what?!) we booked the Community Center at King's Grant in Marlton, NJ (http://www.kingsgrantosa.org/community.asp) which was honestly a lot nicer than our original venue!

We were married in the private party room of an upscale, historic landmark restaurant. Typically, it's used for intimate receptions, for 60-75 people. They set up the chairs and an arch/stage for the ceremony. Then they transformed the room with tables for the reception, while we did our receiving line. It's beautiful old building. The room had exposed limestone walls with candles tucked in all the crevices. So romantic!

Of course, my Catholic friends tell me I'm not "really" married because I didn't get married in a church by a priest. I told them .... well I shouldn't say what I told them. :scared1:

Dh and I got married in my Church where I had all my other sacraments including baptism. Although dh and I no longer lived in the area it was very important for me to have my ceremony there.
I have only been to one Wedding that was not at a Church, although it was performed by a Pastor. My friends had theirs right in the banquet hall where there reception was held. I loved that, I was in the wedding so it was nice to not have to travel from the church to anywhere else, and stop for pics on the way, everything was done on the grounds before the ceremony. Right after, we were all free to start the celebrating ;)

Omghidanielle- I have been in countless weddings and am now running weddings and events. I just helped my friend throw her wedding at the Haddonfield Fortnightly and I absolutely agree with you...the people who run that place are horrible! Walter, the superintendent was awful!!! You are lucky you ended up having it somewhere else. I am trying to spead the word of this terrible venue to as many people as possible. I hope you do the same because I would hate for the Fortnightly to make any money off of innocent people not knowing any better! Happy New Year!!!

We got married at a restaurant in the country that has acres of gardens & ponds and an outdoor gazebo where they hold weddings. The reception was held inside the restaurant. We loved having the ceremony & reception in one location and we love the outdoors so it was a perfect location for us! The wedding coordinator for the restaurant was a JOP so we used her as our officiant.

We were married at "The Hitching Post" in Coer'd'Lane Idaho. It was the old(1900) jail. It was so cute. It took 15 minutes and my inlaws and best friends were there. Loved it!!

We were married in the garden at the hotel where we had our reception. It was beautiful, waterfountain down the middle. We looked all over, mansions, estates, schools that had venues and this was sooo beautiful!

We had the ceremony at a Church, but had the reception at the Genesee Country Village and Museum. We could have had the ceremony there, too. But it was way too expensive.

We live in Houston, and DH is from Dublin, Ireland, and we had friends and family coming in from all over, so after fully planning 2 weddings and nothing "feeling" (or going!) right, we scrapped everything and "eloped" to NOLA with 50 of our closest friends and family!

It was in April, during the French Quarter Festival, and the flowers were stunning - because we were only 50 people, we didn't need a permit to get married in Audubon Park - my house party just showed up and decorated the area where said our , "I Dos!" There were strangers passing by and applauding - then we chartered a street car and took everyone back to the Quarter for a washtub bass brunch at Galatoire's - it was very special, very memorable, and very perfect!

on the beach on Longboat Key FL and then a ceremony just us on the beach in Jamaica.

Well, the plan was to get married in Key West on the beach at sunset.

However, my mom was hospitalized 2 weeks before my wedding, and we knew she wouldn't be allowed to travel. We moved the entire wedding to Batob Rouge and decided we'd get married in my parents yard. The day before the wedding, when it became obvious my mom wold still be in the hospital, we decided to get married there. We didn't ask permission. We were just going to show up. However, one of the nurses got wind of the plan and told the hospital administrator. She ended up offering us the use of their beautiful 2-story atrium lobby. The cafeteria staff had lemonade and cookies out for our guests, and instead of walking down an aisle, I came down the escalator. It was a fabulous wedding. We even made the evening news!!!!

My mom did eventually get out of the hospital, but passed away 6 months later. We had no flowers because she couldn't be close to live plants. We all had to wear masks around her and everything. There was no fancy reception, but I wouldn't change one minute of my wedding. Even the hospital staff told us later, the love in our family (on both sides) was evident. That you could *feel* it.

That was over 14 years ago. Thanks for allowing me to share it.
What a beautiful story. And what a wonderful/caring hospital staff.

Dh and I got married under a gazebo at the Cenntenial Park in Holland Michigan. It was in August and there were flowers planted everywhere. It was very pretty.

There is this place in Grand Rapids Michigan called The Fredrick Meijer Gardens. Its a sculpture park. There is an area in it that has a beautiful pond with fish and waterfall, flowers and rock. Its so pretty. I hear of people getting married there.

My Dad got married there...twice...:rotfl: My stepbro was married there too. Beautiful chapel. We got married at The Chapel LaMore, as did a few good friends and my sister. It's gone now though. OP there are several chapels and hotels in Vegas that are not cheesy as depicted in the movies (of course there are tons of those, my youngest bro got married in a drive thru-:scared1:). If you are serious about getting married in Vegas you can pull off a very classy wedding.

DH and I got married in the non-denominational college chapel back in 1975.

25 years later, in 2000, our DD got married there as well. :)

Since you said you don't want to get married in a church, are there any really nice bed & breakfast inns in your area? Some of them have lovely staircases for the bride to walk down, and nice big gathering rooms for the guests/ceremony. Some will even cater a dinner. Some have gorgeous gardens and will put up tents, etc.

If you do choose to get married in a local park, you should have an indoor alternate site in case of rain though.
