Where did you eat in Vancouver?

Jerry -- Thank you so much for the tips about the Waterfront! We'll be sure to ask about a room overlooking Canada Place. And we'll definitely check out the honeybee garden. I'll be sure to look out for Mickey and Minnie!

I'm getting so excited -- Just a little over a month now!

Would you know if that is only a service offered at the Fairmount or would the other port side hotels have the same service? We're staying at the Pan Pacific.

We stayed at the Pan Pacific. We called bell services and asked them to pick up our luggage and deliver to the Wonder. It worked wonderfully.

If you are staying at the Fairmont Waterfront but booked it yourself, can you still do the Disney luggage transfer? Does it cost anything? If we can't, we'll just schlep the luggage ourselves, no problem, but it would be nice not to have to do that. We certainly don't need the escort. I looked at it on Google street view and you can see the port from the front of the hotel.

I would think Disney would let you do it, but if not, the Waterfront's bell services would do it for you (free) as well. They offered that service before we saw that Disney had their desk onsite. I'd bet they all get put on the same Avis truck anyway.

The advantage of not having to schlep the luggage is that you have to pass through US Customs and airport style metal detectors before you get to the Disney check-in desk at Canada Place. I'm not sure if some of the larger suitcases would fit through the x-ray machines, probably, but just never thought about it.

Death By Chocolate! We went to the one on Denman, but I just read that location is closed.

Unfortunately, they have slowly been closing most of them. :( I am not sure if there are any left. I live in the suburbs and was excited when we got one here but it didn't last long. :(

If you like chocolate, the Sutton Place Hotel has a chocolate buffet. I don't know what days it is. It is pricey but worth it. DH had a work thing there once and it was so good.

Thanks! This will definitely make things easier for us!

Yes. We booked the Waterfront on our own, and were still able use the cruise desk to arrange for our luggage transfer. It was $8 per person, and will show up on your ship board account. We thought it was worth the piece of mind of Disney getting it to the ship, as opposed to the hotel.

We walked ourselves to the port at about 11:15 and quickly moved through customs, security and check in. Waited on a short line for a picture with Mickey and then boarded right away.

With a day trip to Victoria, I've just realized I have only 6 meals to fit in Joey on Burrard, McDonald's, the cookie place on Denman (I LOVE cookies:thumbsup2), the Old Spaghetti Factory, Alporto, Red Robin, White Spot, Tim Horton and to hunt down all those food trucks, as well. I may never sleep.:lmao:

Anything on Granville Island?

I wish I had a cookie right now.:rolleyes1

Thanks,
Laurie

Love The Keg Steakhouse Chain. Also The Cactus Club has a good atmosphere, and great cocktails. Both have various locations around Vancouver.

DW and I also enjoyed old Spaghetti Factory. Great food and great atmosphere. Also, since we don't have one where we live, we ate lunch once at Red Robin. Now I want one in our area!!!

Same thing for us - we ate at Red Robin our first day in Vancouver because we don't have one - DH had eaten at RR before and raved about it, so we wanted to go. It's on the corner of Robson and Thurlow, about a 10 minute walk up from Canada Place area. It's on the corner upstairs from the Starbucks.

We also ate at Old Spaghetti Factory - about a 10 minute walk from Canada Place in the other direction in Gastown. We actually ate their twice - once on our own and once with friends who met us.

Another recommendation would be to take the seabus from the Waterfront Station over to Lonsdale Quay in north Vancouver - there is a market there and they have a variety of food stands. Add in the adventure of going over and it was a fun afternoon.

Here's another vote for Cactus Club. I live in Vancouver and it's our regular casual restaurant. There are several around town but the two closests to Canada Place/Pan Pacific/Waterfront would be their flagship location on Burrard (Bentall 5) and the one on Robson St.

The Robson one is more old-school Cactus, which is kitschy decor (think antlers and weird art) while Bentall 5 is the "new" Cactus look, which is quite sleek and modern. Food is the same though. They make my favourite burger and their key lime pie is so good. Drinks are great too (try their frozen Bellini).

ETA: no kids menu at Cactus. But they won't give you any grief if you want to share entrees. My BFF and I do it all the time so we have room for dessert.

Yes! And then you can go for Beavertails!!!! At least I think you can. I haven't gone for several years.

*uses Google*

Just checked out their website, Lonsdale Quay, and the Beavertails are still there! :thumbsup2

The Granville Public market has a great " food court"... Not your typical food court with chain places but independent fresh food. The one that comes to mind is the perogy stall. Very good. There is also great bakeries and ice cream places. Oh, and Gelato.

Also on Granville Island is a Keg which someone preiously posted about, Sammy J Pepper (alright but nothing special IMO. Similar to Joey's fare but Joey's is better), And Dockside Restaurant was is very good and you get a great view if you eat outside.

There are a few others which I haven't tried: Bridges and Cat's Social House.

We ate at the Keg Steakhouse and Bar on Granville (food was OK service was great) and also tasted the beer at the Granville Island Brewery (the raspberry ale is yummy)

Also if you can take a taxi or dont mind traveling further out we were recommended by a local to go out to the (Kitsilano) Boathouse Restaurant on Kits Beach (there is also one on English Bay but this one was fun because while we waited we sat on the logs on the beach and it was really full of people having a great time. My kids enjoyed playing in the sand and we loved to people watch.) If you have a gorgeous day like we did you might want to check that out!
:thumbsup2

I can't believe I forgot to mention The Boathouse. I agree with the PP . Great place to go. :thumbsup2 If you are here over the weekend, their brunch is excellent.

Ah yes - we did! Yum!!! Try the avalanche if you haven't! Lonsdale Quay was such a neat place and the only reason we made it there is we have some friends who live in west Vancouver and they suggested that as an easy place for us to meet them. We had a lovely, if not brief, visit - it offers a great view back towards Downtown, the Seabus was easy to use, and the marketshops were fun to look around.

I feel like we are staying out of the way of all the good food! We are at the Hilton Burnaby Metro (free with DH's points). Jotting these local places down though!

LOVED Cardero's. The fish was unbelievably good. We also ate at the Spaghetti Factory. The price was perfect, but the food was just average. The kids loved it though. I probably wouldn't have eaten at the Spaghetti Factory normally (the food was just below Olive Garden standards) but we had an extremely long day and the kids wanted some comfort food. I prefer to eat at local restaurants when I'm travelling though---not chain restaurants, but that's just my opinion.
