I'm looking into resale but I know that for me, personally, if I were going the direct route, I would prefer to do it from WDW from their tour because YOU get to see what you are going to get into, you get to see the paperwork right there and then. That's just my preference though. I rarely like getting into something like this by doing it over the phone

Our original purchase was BLT direct while we were on vacation at WDW. Took the tour and signed the papers before we left for home.

Our second purchase was direct over the phone with our guide. At BLT again.

Third purchase was a resale at BCV. Over the phone and e-mail.

We first looked into DVC and the AKL back in 2008 when we were in WDW. At that time we decided to not purchase. However, over the years we kept thinking about it. In June 2014 we took another tour and once again decided to "sleep" on it and crunch some numbers. In August we made the call on the phone and pulled the trigger. We officially closed on September 3rd and now own 200 points at VGF. :goodvibes

Our first purchase was direct with a guide during our vacation. It was something we had thought about for years so it wasn't a spur of the moment purchase.

Our add on was done through resale.

If I were to do it over again, I would have purchased our original contract through resale as well.

First purchase direct onsite after a guided tour.
Second purchase direct onsite with our original guide.
Third purchase resale.

Our first purchase was the result of an official tour w/ a "guide" at WDW after multiple failed attempts via resale. The resort we wanted was "sold out" so we put down a credit card deposit for BWV and ended up, a few months later, buying SSR over the phone from the same guide.

The second purchase was a small SSR add-on over the phone with the same guide.

The final purchase was our largest contract, again SSR, while touring the Grand Cal sales units at DLR.

Not everyone has the opportunity to purchase directly from Disney over the phone. It depends on the purchaser's state of residence and the desired resort. Each state (and I think Canadian province) has its own regulations for timeshare sales. Disney must register and comply with those regulations for each resort it desires to sell within the state. (Resales are not regulated in the same way). This is why DVC does not mail DVC sales info to everyone who calls. Some may get the sales promo mailings later than others because of this. Disney doesn't necessarily register all resorts in all states and some states take longer than others to approve the new resort(s) application.

If you buy on site, Florida laws apply. (Obviously, Disney registers there right away). Not sure what applies if you buy at sea, but I know it's not the purchaser's state of residence, lol.

PS. We bought direct from Disney (on-site) way back in 1998 and did an add-on over the phone about a year later.

Do you remember what the original number of points to buy into the Vacation Club? I think it was 260 and my husband said it couldn't be that high. I am pretty sure it was because it was why we didn't buy. The next time we looked into it they were running a promotion for 'every other year' at 190 points, which we almost considered ... until we stayed at OKW with our kids :rotfl2:

It was originally 160 to buy in I believe.

WE bought 3 contracts !-Direct & 2-Resales.I won't tell anyone not to buy direct ,just buy what you're comfortable with and enjoy.

We bought direct over the phone in 2008. But that was after going to Disney 2 years in a row and thinking about it a lot during that time. We added on resale in 2013.

We have 7 contracts. The first was bought via resale in 2006 and then we took the tour in 2009 (for fun and to see SSR). Then we added on 4 more smaller contracts via resale...and the last 2 contracts (smaller contracts at BWV) we bought direct by calling our guide (after I switched from our annoying assigned guide to a guide I heard good things about). If we add more BWV points (likely will), I will go direct and call our guide. We may sell our 200 OKW and buy a nice chunk at BLT...if so, we'll do that via resale.

We took the DVC tour on our first trip in 1994 but did not buy at that time. After paying Disney lots of cash every year for three more years after that, and recognizing that we would be coming to Disney at least once a year for the foreseeable future, we finally bought during an on site visit in November 1997. In recent years I've been very glad that we bought when we did, because the only decision we needed to make was whether to buy at 0KW or BWV! DVC has been one of the best purchases we have made for our family.

We bought our first set of DVC points while in WDW, our second and third resale our fourth VGF we tried to buy from home but we're asked to wait until we got to WDW and they held the price for us to the initial opening price as they preferred us to wait rather than sell over the phone. The reason was although we are from the UK we were temporarily in France and we're going to WDW within 4 months. We now own AKV, VGC and VGF all the places we really want to stay so we could do nothing but home resort stays if we wanted.

We took the tour in 1998, 2002 and 2006 but didn't take the plunge until 2012. Wish we had done it in 2006 but we didn't. Although very happy with our home resorts so maybe waiting was better

We bought our first set (BCV) resale. For our second set, we did a lot of thinking/researching on our own and after thinking BCV resale vs VGF direct, we decided to get VGF (this was fall in 2013). So, we called our guide at DVC (who really had not done much guiding at all :rotfl: ) and told him exactly what we wanted in terms of resorts, use year, and point amount.

It was really slick: the points were in our account in under 24 hours, he arranged serial charges on our Disney Visa (there's a limit that Disney can place on the card each day) so we could earn double disney dollars (if you do this make sure you pay your card off ASAP), and we booked our first trip in under 36 hours.

If you want to buy direct, my advice is to research and know what you want going in and stick to it.

We finally took the plunge this past New Years while on the Disney Cruise. We had heard the speech many time before and even considered buying years ago but finally decided it was time. I am booked for my first trip over Easter and was both amazed and relieved at how easy it was to book the holiday week. So far, so good...but I'm a rookie! :thumbsup2
