Where did the rabbits go?

We were at OKW this past month and did not see a rabbit! There were plenty of lizards but no rabbits! I noticed a lot of trees were missing probably from the hurricane. It gave the place a more open feel, rather than the out of the way feel you used to get at OKW. In other words, OKW is more open to view from the roads. I was wondering if the rabbits felt that and just left or were they killed or what? I only saw one rabbit down there and that was over at Dixie Landings when my wife and I went for a walk. Any rabbit experts out there? :sad2: :scratchin

I'm thinking it has something to do with new menu items at Olivia's. ;)

Loss of habitat means they have either moved to a more secure location where they can hide, or due to the loss they were out in the open more and were a meal for the owls, eagles, and hawks.

I don't know about habitats and all that, but we saw some at OKW when we were down there in December....

Just a thought, but exactly how big were those lizards...

Is there a season for some form of hibernating in Florida? I know we see tons of rabbits spring, summer and fall here in NY, but not in the winter months. Could they be hanging out growing big bellies with lots of little bunnies inside?

I think that they moved to VWL. In December there were quite a few playing around in the grass next to the pool. :umbrella:

Building 18... they all have seemed to relocate to building 18. There are always rabbits in the early AM on the pathway from the building to the parking lot :-)

You know the old saying.........HARE TODAY......GONE TOMORROW....... :sad2: .......i know, i know.....sorry.

Funny you should bring this up because I was just reading a related story on CNN.com:

early morning, sunset - are probably the best time now.

these bunnies know that hawks and eagles can definitely go after them too....

so only expect to see them now when the sun makes it hard on hunters.

I think they are still around at night.

I'm thinking it wasn't the lizards or gators that ate the bunnies after all.

Just got back from Orlando this morning (not a Disney trip but made time to get on property a wee bit) and saw a bunny hoping around the front entrance of the Contemporary. I've seen them at PO and SSR before, but never at the Contemporary.
