We took our bikes the last trip and really enjoyed them. We did not ride them at VWL so they stayed on the van. When we went to Fort Wilderness, we loved having them. When we went to SARATOGA Springs to check out the resort, my son and dh rode them to downtown disney. They traveled faster than I could in the van. My son thought that was cool. Can he ride from DtD to OKW?

I think he will be able to. The golfers use carts to get from OKW to SSR. So I would think he would be able to use the same path.

We just returned from OKW this week. Its a beautiful resort, we just loved it. We're considering buying into the DVC. We would love to go back every year!:mickeybar

There is a walking/bike path from SSR (cross the cart bridge and take the first right) to OKW.

This is NOT the path that the golf carts take it is dedicated for bikes/walkers/joggers. Only golfers are allowed on the cart paths and course.

Enjoy!

One nice thing about the OKW path is that they redid the asphalt section that was kind of poor going. (The section closest to OKW). So now the biking is even better than before (very smooth).

Nothing but golf carts is permitted on the actual golf course paths. You are not even allowed to walk on those paths, let alone ride a bike. ;)

Are there bike rakes to park (lock) your bikes at Downtown Disney?

We just returned from a trip to VWL and we too, took our bikes. There was no place to park them at the resort (although many others just had them sitting around by the resort along some walls--we were hoping for a bike rake to park ours in). Our bikes stayed on the van most of the time (except for a trip over to Fort Wilderness).

Has anyone asked DVC if they would consider putting in bike rakes at VWL. There seemed to be many others there that also wanted a place to put their bikes.

Thanks for the info on DTD, I never thought about riding from SSR to DTD. We may just have to try that resort next time.

My DW and I were riding our Segways around OKW and SSR the 1st week in July and we saw Bike racks near DTD and SSR. the West side has racks where the Golf carts used to park for the DI guest renting carts. :smooth:

Snowgod,
Were the Segways your's or did you rent them somewhere at WDW? If a rental, where did you get them and if you don't mind, what was the price?

You can park your bikes just inside the door where you are staying. All one bedroom and up have a hallway that is large enough to store your bikes when not using them.

:bounce: I am so pleased to know that bikes are welcome at most of the DVC's. Our home resort is SSR but will be going to OWK and VWL so it was nice to know others brought bikes. Wonder if they can be accommodated at BWV?

I can understand wanting to have your bikes with you, but I am not sure of the official ruling on this. Just because people post here the bikes are welcome does not mean that is the official policy. I think I would call the resort. As to BWV it is a hotel. Would you take your bikes to other hotels not located at Disney World. I am just not sure bikes on elevators and up and down stairs at the other locations is a good idea.

As to Disney placing bike racks, not sure that will happen. Since Disney rents bicycles not sure they are going to be receptive to bringing your own.

I called member sevices today to see what they said. Bikes are allowed and can be put inside the room. I did not ask if this included studeos. I did not specify which dvc resort but I did ask if this included the 3rd floor. They said yep.

So if you are at Board walk, on the third floor, into the elevator they go, threw the carpeted hallways, into the room.

Maybe I should request a bike rack in the parking lot. I will e-mail them and if others also contact them, maybe ae request will be answered. Then again, maybe by taking them to our rooms we will decide not to bring them.

:) I called right after we joined to make sure bikes were allowed and was told yes. I didn't ask specifically about BWV. Thanks Tigger1 for the reply. I really like you parking lot bike rack idea. Good thinking!

I just wrote a note to MS asking that they look into putting bike racks in at each of the DVC resorts. I do hope they eventually do this. We loved having our bikes at VWL, but leaving them on the van when we were not using them was not convenient.

Well, we will see!
Maybe some Pixie Dust will come our way!

I got a reply back from Disney about the bike racks. I suggested a bike rake in the parking lot near the entrance. They replyed back that it was a great idea to bring up at the members meeting. Is anyone going to it next December? How many years would it take to get them if members only suggest it this year.

Likely we will be looking for a segway parking lot before we see a bike rack.

Don't know about Snowgod but I'm pretty sure there's no place to rent them for personal use around the resorts. I think the liability factor would be too high for Disney, especially since training is required and they would have no control over where or how you rode them. Imagine someone losing control and going out in front of a bus, or off a path into the canal.

However, they do offer a Segway tour of Epcot, around the World Showcase. It starts at 9:00 am and goes to 11:00 am. We did it last trip a couple of months ago. Approximately the 1st hour is training and the 2nd hour is around Epcot. When done you get a Segway pin.

The regular cost is around $80 but there is a DVC discount which brings it down into the 60's if I remember right. They don't advertise it yet because word of mouth is filling every reservation. It's only 10 people at a time on the tour. If interested you should call ahead for reservations.

We got lots of comments when riding back to Future World at the end of the tour. Most people seemed to think we were cast members in training....lol

The number is 417-WDW-TOUR, the same number you call for all the other tours. Ask about the Segway tour around Epcot. Note, you still need to have ticket media to get into Epcot, but they let you in early as check-in is at 8:45 am.

This must be a very popular tour as they are now doing 2/day: 8:30am and 9:30am. Check-in is @ 8:15 for the 8:30 tour. (It's $68/person with the DVC or passholders discount.)

I just booked our tour for October. Can't wait :hyper:, we've heard many great reviews.

We would LOVE to do this tour, but can't because we always have the kids with us. Oh well! maybe someday!
